Anyone able to help an anon out? After entirely uninstalling all of my mods my game keeps crashing whenever I leave Sanctuary. Creating new characters doesn't fix it, and I've already reinstalled the game. The only other thing I've noticed is that I can actually make it to Abernathy Farm if I run straight there from the vault, rather than talking to Codsworth or looting the town.
Never had this issue before, and no advice online has been any help so far. This is pretty much my last resort.

How do you roleplay as Nora? The housewife-lawyer with absolutely no experience in firearms or melee weapons who watched her husband get murdered in front of her eyes, gets thrown in an hostile post apocalyptic world and is somehow immediately expected to board a power armor and mow down raiders with a minigun?

I'm all for having RPG protagonists with a backstory but this particular character makes absolutely no sense, at least compared to Nate the soldier-survivalist.

But professional women are tsundere as fuck for firearms, why is it assumed she would have no experience with firearms? Are are you a serf type who thinks only military experience gives firearms training?

The only thing really iffy is the Power Armor thing, but that's more an issue with the game giving you PA right out of the gates. Perhaps doing a setup with needing to salvage a power armor to help a besieged group would've been better with the initial BoS encounter instead of the Minutemen encounter, as then the scribe and Danse could atleast give a few pointers on its use as flavor dialogue to help the immersion along.

Nora was from a small redneck village in the deep south. She was always an intelligent girl; while later this would mean that she would get a full scholarship to a law school, early in life it meant she helped out her cousin Billy Joe Bob in his mechanics shop. As her families blood was essentially the second amendment made liquid, she received her first 22 rifle at a very young age and kept up her practice through her life. Her father was also concerned about boys in her high school, and taught her how to beat the ever loving shit out of a man with an extendable baton.

I tend to use variants on that for my mental backstory for Nora; it covers the three basic parts, and otherwise we just have to assume that she's one of the people who takes to violence like a fish to water.

I'm not sure if that's scientifically possible but a bag of fertilizer had 1 acid and 4 fertilizer in it, so eh.

There's a couple options. He could have been captured and offered to repair their shit in exchange for not being skinned alive, and eventually integrated enough to the point where he was a fully member.

He could be a scientist lacking any morals who joined because they promised a good supply of loot to tinker with and he would give up his chem supply in exchange for a higher share of the high tech loot.

He could have started as a raider hunter by using robots but moved onto caravans because they had better shit and eventually attracted other raiders.

NMM doesn't actually check to see if the files are there. And normal updates don't fuck with anything (though it might make some mods not work right but it won't delete anything), it's because you went and deleted everything first. The mods were part of that "everything". Check the plugin tab, it'll be empty in NMM.

I got a serious bug at the end of When Freedom Calls, where Preston and the gang will head out to Sanctuary but never actually "settle" there (the map icon still shows 0 settlers) and will only deliver generic lines when talked to, so the quest can't be finished. I always figured Nate became a crazy prepper after he got out of the army. Well, not crazy, fully justified as it turns out. Part of that prep was teaching his wife as much of what he learned in the army as possible. Going to the range weekly, camping, teaching her all the skills she would need if the world ended and they where in full into the woods mode. By the time the game starts, Nora would probably be about as ready as any civilian could make them self.

It would have been really nice if there was a gun safe in the prewar house, and she would make a comment about what a crack shot she is after all the practice, and some camping gear in the another closet were she makes similar comments. Just so you you at least know she could realistically survive a single second outside the vault.

Usually I start off with a character's skills and traits, and then try to think what kind of person could have them. Then I try to think how they'd react to a situation I have a say in, and then pick my response accordingly. I find it easier to engage myself with the character by doing that.

I've tried a couple RP runs, doing Mad Max and Deckard. It's really not easy, especially with the voice acting limiting your dialogue options. I tried to exclusively level up perks that I feel like they would use, but the leveling system makes it hard to specialize your character.

Also, I love how the gauss rifle in FNV has this small area effect due to the sheer amount of kinetic energy transferred. I hate it when there's a projectile "beam" or something. Should just be an invisible *PRSZT!*, and then a shockwave blast at the target.

Also, making it hitscan would work well with mods like Weapons of Fate (or other ballistic overhauls), since a gauss rifle is supposed to be a hypervelocity weapon.
(...and I know any hypervelocity weapon used in atmosphere would need a high-powered laser pulse to evacuate the air in the projectile's path, leading to a visible beam anyway. ..but COME ON, visible beams are kind of tacky when overdone.)

The notion that everyone should become more spongey at higher "levels" is ridiculously old-fashioned and "arcade", stemming from old rpgs where you didn't have much room for how to sustain entertainment value.

Literally every rpg system I've ever come across who avoids this---relying on armor/equipment, speed/dodging, accuracy, game-changing abilities, etc. rather than just an increasing HP variable---has been vastly improved because of this.

A 7.62mm bullet to the head would seriously maim every possible living thing, barring thick carapace or something (and even then, 5-6 .50 rounds, LET ALONE A FUCKING MISSILE, should make quick work of it).

Hey anons I found decided to go back and play through Fallout 4 again having just purchased all of the DLCs.

Automatron is neat, wish you could make Mr. Gutsys though. Far Harbor was really good, Longfellow is really cool. It was nice having "RP" elements in and out of dialogue.

Honest Hearts is great, I love the religious aspect of it, and Joshua Graham is amazing. The tribes give a completely different perspective, as most of New Vegas is big guys fighting big guys. It's such a smaller conflict, yet huge for the tribes. It's also a much nicer, simpler life style. I think it's a really great DLC.

I liked Honest Hearts, myself, although I like the more wilderness and tribal type of setting. Main thing I didn't like was the random giant spawns, and regarding the story, I thought having New Canaan wiped out was a giant mistake as that had potential to be one of the few culturally prominent factions in the American West, and it was only there to artificially inflate the threat of the White Legs, whom the Courier could potentially vaporize singlehandedly without breaking a sweat anyway.

Great gameworld zone, though, and as you said, the backstory of the original survivor living out his days there, gradually molding the culture of the tribals living there was nicely done. Wasn't in-your face exposition like that blowhard Ulysses never shuts up in the Divide.

My game (NV) always crashes when I try to load a save in-game, but from the main menu I can load my saves just fine. I have CASM installed and this happens regardless if it's an autosave or not.

So far what I've played of it, it's mediocre. The main thing is nothing else covers what it does, for the Legion, Kings, Fiends, and Khans. The Powder Gangers, I'd suggest the NCR CF mod instead, as that's more fleshed regarding interactions with them, (and it's not compatible with SOTO), but there is nothing similar for the other factions Tryout covers.

The main thing I dislike about it is the automatic approach; on paper it's a neat idea (belligerent blue-balled scum approaching any woman they see wanting to score), but the scanner seems broken with a long range, high rate of triggering, and then the dialogue interactions from it are shit:

3. <get raped>
4. <get raped>

It would be nice to have speech options to avoid the event or get something from it, like "[Barter]You won't even buy a girl dinner first?" or "[Speech]Not now Sweetie, but I'll be back later to rock your world!" or "[Unarmed]That's my purse! I don't know you!", etc.

But in general as it is seems a bit broken. Another funny thing was that Legion ambush of caravans between Nipton and Searchlight, with default settings of "33%", I somehow triggered all 4 of those legionaries to approach me the second they were in visual range.

Quest based stuff is alright, and it covers a lot of stuff to be a good all-in-one Wasteland Debauchery mod, but that scanner really needs fixing.

One of the biggest things that bugs me is that they constantly show they are sentient. There's a part where a doctor is testing drugs on a Synth, and the Synth asks if it's going to hurt, clearly nervous. The doctor just says he doesn't know and it's the Synths job to find out. I don't think it's an issue with the mods from which the messages are from, I think it's some sort of issue that's causing all beginning of the game messages to show up before the main menu.

I found someone else with the issue who said that it happened once his amount of mods went over 100. I have over 100 as well.

Gen 3 synths in general were made to be the perfect robot workforce that lacks any of the flaws of older robots, and require zero human oversight so humanity can spend all of its time better itself through scientific discovery instead of having to waste time on petty tasks such as growing food, and building maintenance.

Maybe if you actually read the terminals, and notes, and listened to what people said in The Institue, you would know that, but 9 times out of 10, when people say something "isn't explained" in a game, it actually is explained, they just missed it because they skip through all the dialogue and then want to complain about not understanding shit.
