Just reposting from the last thread real fast because I didn't keep track of how soon it was ending:

Took a small amount of time out of redoing all the art to finish up the dialogue system (none of the new art is implemented yet). Now depending on how a fight ends you get a different flow of story. Probably not impressive but it is one step closer to the kind of experience I would like to make. (I know he is not a cube and I apologize profusely. He was named this before he had his 'story portrait')

In the next 2-3 days I hope to come back and show the improved project art. I won't be participating in Recap Monday this week but hopefully next! Happy devving, everyone!

there aren't any animations. the characters use config joints to move and stabilize. the ball guy is just for testing out new mechanics that i put on the normal 2 legs guy later.

Added a rough lock-on progress indicator. I'd like to make it move more linearly but it's fine for now

What should I do to better indicate the player's target? I have a direction indicator in an old build that pointed an arrow in the target's direction but it still didn't specify which entity it was pointing at. Ace Combat has the player's target square blink but that probably won't work as well in 2D. Maybe if I just made it blink really fast or something

It looks pretty good as is anon, I might only turn on the green 'lock-on able' squares if the enemy is within a certain distance or within a certain vision cone. or both.

You can probably forego the green squares around enemy missiles, and the blue ones around 'friendly' missiles to help alleviate visual clutter.

Help me, AGDG, you're my only hope!

I'm new to using unity and I'm trying to make a little spaceship thing. The problem is, when I make the player gameobject kinematic, the camera works fine, but I can't apply thrust force (kinemantics, huh? who knew?) but if I unckeck the Is Kinematic box on the gameobject rigidbody, it starts half embedded in a nearby sphere and when I apply thrust to escape the sphere, it appears to tumble and fall, but still responds to conrtolls. Gravity is unchecked on the rigidbody, btw. I think it may be the camera, but I don't know why it would behave differently based on the kinematic state of its target.

You can code this way, and it's fine. You can also code the way you've been doing and that I assume most of us here do, which is one script per gameobject. I've also seen someone use ONE monoscript for the ENTIRE game, and build a completely parallel update loop of their own, just using unity for rendering and the editor.

That's the nice thing about unity, you can choose what level of interaction that you have with it, and how unity-like you want your code to be.

So I've been working on the rail destruction system, and before I proceed any further I was wondering what the good people here think.

When you destroy a rail piece should:
a) the entire piece be destroyed.
b) a hole big enough for the train should be created, rest of the rail stays intact.
c) a hole big enough for the train should be created, top part of the rail stays intact, bottom part get destroyed (they way it is now)
d) some other combination/solution

Hmm. After you imported the first time, with just dropping in the .blend, did you select the .blend then in the Inspector tab, under the Rig section verify that you were using the Humanoid type of rig, and hit configure?

I can't speak as to whether or not that would capture your non-deformation bones, but that's the workflow that has caused me the least headache overall.

I'm not sure how much you were willing to test this, but if the information (deform bone or non) is stored per bone and referenced during the import, it could be worth trying to set the bone to be Deform in blender, but weight paint everything for that bone to zero, and still use it for IK/FK or w/e.

Or maybe paint it to a single vertex or tiny tri not attached to the mesh but still part of the object with a completely see-through material one-pixel pure alpha or something.

I haven't made a direct SRPG but I've made a game with a lot of similar elements and I don't think it's difficult per-se, but it's probably the slowest most time-sink-y thing I've worked on: lots of UI work, balancing etc.

esp. for your first game I'd recommend a real time game like a shmup instead, you can get a working prototype really quickly and you feel your changes immediately when you're testing the game, which does wonders for keeping yourself motivated

Thats great, thank you. The big pink band is the rendering, and i can see it jumping way up when you move. I will hopefully be able to upgrade the tilemap renderer to webGL soon. That should help. Then it looks like you'll hit a consistent 60.

I have no idea about that. It's basically GitLab's source hosted on a different server. You basically get the same service on GitLab, not to mention GitLab has a pages functionality just like GitHub's website thingie, so you can set up a basic HTML site for yourself if you want. yes i used flying view all the time but the problem is..it goes back to default camera after clicking on a track piece and switching back and forth doesnt feel that good,another reason is you never have a good sight of where pieces are being placed/how far you are from something in default camera and its super annoying especially if you are building mid air

it's not just the glint, but several factors

BF3 of course had ballistics, and I think the slowest bullets out of any BF game, and the most drop on the snipers, so actually hitting anything got more difficult

second, the only one-hit kills were headshots, and the only one hit kill headshot weapons were bolt actions, semi autos took 2 or 3 shots

so between giving your position away with the glint, good level design so that you can cover from common sniping positions, added difficulty to landing hits, and requiring a headshot from a low rate of fire weapon, it pretty much solved the problem

of course nowadays everyone has unlocked the M98B which was a mistake, but it worked for the most part

What are you trying to accomplish here?

This looks like a flat drawing with a solidify modifier which is so so so not how to make a horse. Start by making a cylinder and extruding and shaping those edges to get the shape of a horse. This looks like a box. Also look into ngons because it looks like you have a TON of them in there.

Dumb dude who was asking questions about delta time yesterday night here
I'm kinda even more lost now.
I get that delta time is the real life time between the current frame and the last rendered frame.

What I don't understand is how I'm supposed to make everything consistant at any framerate.

Here's where I'm probably getting mixed up. For instance if the game's running at around 60fps, then it's going to take 20-ish miliseconds between each frame, if it's 30fps, then it'll be double that time right ? So what I don't understand is how I can make some "consistant time amount" from a value that can vary.

Why do you swing from mast to mast? Are you a pirate-themed-spiderman? Who are you fighting? What is your motivation? What settings will you fight in?
Sometimes just giving yourself a prompt, "Well-known mast swinger gets into a load of trouble when he swings onto a cursed ship. The curse prevents any mates from getting off of the ship unless the captain (who is a beating heart in the captains quarters) is killed.
There, we have a mechanic, motivation, main characters, setting, etc. And I didn't even break a sweat.

Why is everything in my MonoDevelop marked red? (Unity)

The scripts work fine, but all scripts look like this and the autocompletion also doesn't work, just in this particular Project, all the other Unity Projects it works fine.

I tried making a new Project and importing all the assets from the "faulty" project and it still looks like this help.
