The Armored Core lore seems pretty interesting. I can't wait to beat Nexus and play Last Raven even if it will kick my shit in.
>>
>>168170523
Also is it just me or Dark Souls is actually modeled after the Armored Core lore? I can sort of see some parallels between the great destructions and the cycles of the age of fire (humans can live on the planet's surface) and dark (humans are relegated to the underground).
>>
>>168165246
If that's the mission I think it is, the briefing should have had some sort of warning about that, probably calling it ECM. Resistance to ECM is determined by your head and can be improved with a back-mounted radar.
Or you could go with rockets and a machine gun. Spread is pretty helpful when you can't lock.
>>168170845
In a very loose sense. Very, very loose.
>the surface was uninhabitable but then the grand revolution happened and now it's inhabitable but dicks are trying to ruin that
And that's about the only connection I can make. Well, except for the Kojima Particle connection.
>>
>>168171082
If that part is in the briefing I must've missed it (and even if I didn't I wouldn't have spent money on parts given how you don't get back all of your dosh if you sell the parts). I don't like the Armored Core briefings though, especially because you can't see the area's map and information about the enemy is vague if not inexistent even in cases where the employer supposedly knows exactly what is going on. Nexus seems to be the worst at that so far.

>And that's about the only connection I can make
What about the storytelling, with the lore being in emails and item descriptions? The protagonist never talking and taking on enemies that are increasingly more powerful, to the point that you're taking on "gods"?

>the Kojima Particle connection
Please explain.

Okay so, Kojima Particles. If you've played 4th gen AC, you know what they look like. If not, this mission should give you a good idea.

Isn't it strange how similar it looks to souls?
>>
>>168177103

>Kojima Particles

for a second when I first heard that, I thought Metal gear Solid was making a crossover. Was kinda excited too.
>>
>>168170845
Is very loose, you also need to consider how both games develop their stories, on AC, you are living and directly affecting the major conflict of the moment, working for key people, or killing them, you get all the info as missions reports, emails and dialogue, you switching sides constantly, and you basically drive the direction of the war at some point, just because you are that good.

Meanwhile on DS, usually everthing already happened, and you are just clearing all the mess, all the importants persons are death or crazy enough that they cant act anymore, if someone is sane, it lost his/her powers or something stop them to truly affect the outcome of the situation, or they just simple dont care enough to move a finger, there is almost no population left to save, and while they player knows what is going by the items descriptions, can you say the same for the Player character? I doubt he find little notes attached to everthing he finds, specially since a lot of stuff he recovers are from corpser that clearly die in a horrific way.

I would say that there is some common elements, like the player character being a relative normal person (even a undead dont seem to be that different from a human in terms of body, capabilities and abilities, aside from "goes crazy over time" and cant die from age) that somehow just manage to defeat everthing by using standard equipment and skill, you always get a friend/allie that is loyal to you (most of the time) on AC is the operator and on DS is the lady that helps you to level up and watch over the local safe place, you never get a piece of special armor/core or weapon meant to you in the sense of "you are chosen one and only you can use it", and the player is always a new face on the whole thing, you are recently new mercenary in the scene or a undead that was just revived or free from some place.

The latest I can find is that there's a beta. That was back in May.
>>
How should I tune the parts in AC Nexus? For example, is it better top increase a generator's output or its energy cap? Can you reset the tuning?
>>
>>168227230
Cooling on everything except generators.
For generators, crap if I know. I always lean toward capacity, but there are good reasons to go for output.
Resetting tuns in Nexus is pretty awful. So, you have to pay money to tune, and then you sell the part, rebuy it, and that gets rid of all the tuning points. Then you have to pay more money to tune it again. Ninebreaker and Last Raven make it much easier, you can freely move the points around without having to buy or sell and tuning is free.
>>
>>168227562
>Cooling on everything except generators.
Do heat inducing attacks really get so bad later on? Also leg weight improvement and arm accuracy isn't worth it? Also if you increase output the energy bar should recharge faster, right? And yeah the resetting tuning part sounds pretty bad.

But man, I will cream my pants if it lets you play as Mellowlink.
>>168227954
The big issue is that heat from Nexus to Last Raven actively drains your energy and lowers your output instead of only lowing output like from 2-SL. That'll get you killed faster than anything. You also have to account for your booster heat and your energy weapons, which makes it all the more precarious. It's not that the other stats aren't useful, but rather that having a big buffer for heat is more important.

Nah. Every AC has human+. Nobody else has to play by the rules.
>>
>>168267595
>Every AC has human+
WHY. That shit was bad enough in AC1. Was From expecting the Armored Core players to be either total shitters that purposefully blow up the generators for getting the jijirium treatment or autists that use excel or other spreadsheets for minmaxing builds with no inbetween anyway?
>>
>>168268478
No no no, only the upper echelon has it in Nexus. And yes, they're all subject to heat, even if the PLUSers are less subject to it.
In Last Raven, there are only, like, four Ravens that don't have PLUS. Out of, what, 70?
>>

just import from Nexus, it will give you some peace on the first couple of missions, unless you do the Distribution Center Recon first.
>>
>>168270586
Well, Ninebreaker really isn't very good.
However.
It introduces a handful of new parts, quite a few of which are really nice. More importantly, some of those parts are a real pain in the balls to unlock in Last Raven.
So you can totally skip it if you want and just import your Nexus data, but getting all the parts in Ninebreaking and then transferring that is its own relief.
>>
>>168275748
What exactly is so bad about Ninebreaker?
>>
>>168276435
Most of it is that it's really dull. The game is a giant training simulator with an arena stapled to it. The arena has some interesting fights, but 80% of the training just isn't interesting. The last 20% is really fun, though. Kind of throws everything you've been learning at you and they almost feel like actual missions.
That said, playing Ninebreaker to completion will make you a lot better at these games. It's just kind of a slog.
Oh, and it also has the #1 ultimate trigger for the nuts of the series. Those who have suffered it dare not speak its name.

TRIGGER WARNING: PTSD, rage, general unhappiness, Ninebreaker.
Proper Distance 4
>>
>>168283257
Ok, what's so bad about it?
>>
>>168283397
Describing it can only go so far. In text, it doesn't sound so bad, but then you play it and want to die.
So the proper distance simulators are all about keeping your AC a specific distance from a target. If you get too close, you're penalized. If you're too far away, penalized. The target is small and moves around, sometimes pretty erratically. There are small walls all over the place, about shin-height to a midweight biped. Tall enough that going over them is a hassle, but short enough to make you want to try it. Not that you have a choice, you basically need to go over them.
1 has one target.
2 speeds up the target.
3 is where the pain starts. Now the target gets a grenade launcher. You know, the kind that stuns you if you get hit. You're almost guaranteed to get penalized when that happens.
4 brings it back up to speed while it still has the grenade launcher. Oh, did I mention that it double taps with the grenades? It double taps. And the target LOVES darting about at wild and unpredictable speeds. It's not uncommon for you to dodge the grenade shots only for it to suddenly rush straight at you for a penalty.
From what I remember, you fail at four penalties. You have to go for a minute and a half.

I liked AC1 the best.

I liked not having overboost, the slower pace, the blocky mech design (honestly, I think the graphics hold up pretty well for a PS1 era game), and not having to tinker with so much stuff.
>>
>>168306163
Did you also like 20 buttery smooth FPS, having to use excel for every build, to abuse energy weapons because the mission rewards are shit, and to rebuild ACs from scratch all the time because the game only lets you have one AC AND the money constraints? Because I didn't.
>>
>>168306452
Aw yeah, the 20FPS enhanced the feel that I'm looking through the optics of a glorified bucket.

I never needed a spreadsheet, personally.

I just finished the game once, farmed the 2v1 arena mission for cash, then saved multiple ACs for VS/replaying missions.
>>

>Aw yeah, the 20FPS enhanced the feel that I'm looking through the optics of a glorified bucket.
Oh yes because the ultimate combat weapon would have shit sensor as opposed to having the best of the best.

What if 20FPS is the best available? The big jump in AC tech was the synthetic muscle fiber tech, not optics and video software.

It'd be stupid as fuck as a refresh rate that low means terrible reaction times, you can see that by yourself by playing racing games. Moreover stop trying to justify AC1's technical limitations by citing deepest lore tier shit.

>It'd be stupid as fuck as a refresh rate that low means terrible reaction times, you can see that by yourself by playing racing games.

No matter how stupid it is, if that's the best they've got, that's the best they've got.

That's like saying "It'd be stupid to use bows and arrows when a sniper rifle can kill you from longer range".

No. The game runs like shit because the PS1 hardware is shit. Again, what you're doing is about as bad as soulstard trying to justify bad performance with deepest lore, and this is the last (you) you're getting from me.

Youre right in that the game does have its flaws but it's also a simpler game so it doesn't get lost in clutter. So the gameplay can shine more.

Then again I think every AC had something good to bring to the table. I dont think there's any singular bad AC game.
>>
Speaking of the older AC games, I beat AC1 a while ago and I'm going to start Project Phantasma soon. Anything I should know going in? There's a ton of trap options in these games.
>>
>>168324701
>it's also a simpler game
It's arguably really not because of the reasons I listed. Unless you don't mind becoming a human+ freak.

I'm emulating Project Phantasma and encountered some sort of bug. After an arena match it automatically goes into the replay mode and won't exit it no matter what I press. I've been sitting here watch myself blow out the first arena challenger for the past 10 minutes while trying to make it stop and go back to the game. I can still change the camera mode, so it's not like the controls are entirely responsive. It's just that the cancel replay button doesn't work at all.

What do?
>>
>>168327938

The reasons you list just make the game feel more challenging, and I genuinely don't mind them. It meant that you didn't have a margin for error to fall back on. You had to think before you blindly went into a battle. There's nothing wrong with a game throwing a challenge at you.

Now, you're right about the 20 FPS comment. I wish it ran at a better framerate and genuinely won't try to imply that it's better.
>>
>>168340002
Skip the arena? It's the circle button, right? Is that working everywhere else in the game?
>>
>>168341806
It's the X button. It worked eventually after I kept mashing it for a while and it seems to be working normally now. Not sure what the problem was, the button works fine everywhere else.
>>
>>168340105
And to me they make the game feel like a fucking chore, given that you have to play a mission to actually see how it is first and take notes, as the briefings generally aren't useful, then reload the save and build an AC appropriate for the mission, which is annoying as fuck because you can only have a single AC and you're tight as fuck on money which means that you have to sell and rebuy almost every component excluding the generator and optional parts for about half of the game. That's not difficult nor challenging, that's tedious.
>>
>>168342396
And I forgot: having to rely on energy weapons because the ammo for those is free is while solid round weapons not only cost money but are in some cases really expensive (ammunition damage to cost ratios go from about 3.2 to about 12 depending on the weapon which is imbalanced as fuck) is pretty stupid. From should have either made all of the ammo free or made you pay also for energy weapons that aren't the blades.

I don't know exactly which track it is because the names are all messed up, but what's the song that players right after the Scorcher cover? The bit of lyrics I can make out sounds something like "come on soldier, you can't blame yourself." It doesn't sound like any AC tracks that I know though.

Forgive me for committing the sin of discussing non-AC games ITT, but are you guys interested in any new games coming out this year? I'm busy playing Zangeki Warp right now, and it's a real blast. I'm also waiting on the new Zelda, as it looks balls to the wall amazing. Mostly I'm just killing time until From announces Armored Core themed DLC for Dark Souls.

Bloodstained releases this year, right? That.
Ace Combat 7 is on PC, so that too. Coincidentally, I am now out of reasons to get a PS4.
And I know I can't wait for FE Exam, that's gonna be so hype kill me.
I'd really like to hear something new on MAV.
Oh, apparently MechWarrior Living Legends is back. There's a new patch, but joysticks don't work yet, so I'm waiting for that.

I'll buy Rising Storm 2 from the shadiest key reseller that I can find, hoping that none of my money actually goes to Tripwire. Other than that I'll probably buy Near A Tomato if it comes out for PC and a few DCS modules if they ever come out and go on sale. None of the garbage that came out in the last few years really caught my interest, most that did is a console exclusive and I'm not spending shekels for a current gen console anytime soon. Yeah I am really fun at parties.

Move around a lot and try to get them separated. Kojima arms girl is the fastest and the frailest, so ideally, you can catch her when she's ahead of everyone else and take her out quickly. Then keep flying around until you can get Berlioz split off and take a few shots at him while the others catch up.
It's a painfully long process, but it's much safer than trying to fight two or three at once.

Please teach me, which on-disc reg is more fun for singleplayering FA? Can't download the newer ones. I did a quick test and research after getting the game.
>1.0/1.1 - you seem to have way, way more energy so more boost/flight. That's good.
>1.15 - infinite energy, but that would be too easy and make a lot of building meaningless
>1.2 - people say blades are good, the inblue FCS I started with is way more effective. I don't know how useful it is in singleplayer, but I like action games.

1.20 is best singleplayer reg in FA. It's really fast but less broken than playing it completely unpatched.

1.15 is technically "funner" in a way, but should only be used for replaying missions after S ranking them normally, and to make fashion builds more viable when you're just messing around. Basically, don't spoil yourself with it but definitely have some fun with it later on.

Yes, it is. A VAST majority of dark souls story was similar to AC (especially DS2). However, the style in which they tell the stories are identical too. The 3 endings from FA (and in some ways, the endings from LR too) are identical to Dark Souls. This describes all AC and DS games:
>Lone protagonist has no power, but is given the opportunity to make choices, but only under the guidance of a powerful organization against an oppressive world.
>The protagonist joins various factions for benefit along the way, picking a style of weaponry that each faction specializes in, and learning the lore behind that. This affects their multiplayer performance (V and VD only, since they have MP campaigns)
>The protagonist is guided by a waifu-bait girl.
>The protagonist acquires currency and weapons along the way that shape their combat style, the items giving descriptions for lore.
>The protagonist meets NPCs that have only a face, image, a set of dialogue, and often relate to the world also, revealing little details too.
>Occasionally, the protagonist will fight enemies that progress the story, their items, dialog, and stage often having lore and references too.
>The protagonist never talks to other players and is completely silent.

It's a From Soft thing. They've been doing this since the 90s.
>>
>>168180642
They're actually a reference to GN particles from Gundam.

>>168227230
>>168227562
Alternatively, just use a low cal value generator and low heat booster. Heat in nexus was basically a punishment for needing high power boosters to dodge, or being wasteful with your energy. Unfortunately, punishing your players for wanting to go fast makes Nexus and LR a bit clunky.

The formula is:

[ ( Boost Heat + Cal Value ) x2 ]- Cooling = heat generated

So if your boosters have 4000 heat and your cal value is 4000, then you need 16000 cooling to not generate heat while boosting. Something like Birdie and Lotus can be used on weak radiators without ever worrying about heat.
>>
>>168268478
Nexus used H+ for the hard enemies to make a game that was harder than SL (SL top tier enemies have H+ too)

But LR? That was intended to be the final armored core game and was made for fans and long-time players. All ACs have H+ purely for the sake of making it super hard.

>Is an Aoi mdl2, close range, dual BR build viable?

Only if you use sup-optimal arms to reach the 3BR benchmark. Aoi Mdl.1 is more necessary.

On PS3 you'll see Aoi builds focus on KE defense instead and stay at mid range.

2016 and 2017 are really looking up for games. As someone who missed out entirely on next gen games after 2013 (excluding dark souls 2) it's the first time when I've actually wanted to buy new games.

New games I'm looking forward too:
>Battletech Turn-based Game
>Mechwarrior Single Player Game
>Red Dead Redemption
>Nioh
>Nier Automata (!!!)

Recent games that are already out but I've been waiting to play:
>DS3
>DOOM 2016
>The Last Guardian
>Final Fantasy IV
>Obduction
>Deus Ex Human REvolution
>Titanfall 2
>MGSV
>Witcher 3
>Bloodborne (only if I need to get a PS4 for the next AC game).

Old games that I'm picking up this year and haven't played yet:
>Demon's Souls
>Metal Gear Rising
>Any of the Monster Hunter games.

Stability. Wait until you fight an enemy that's using a high stun weapon or lots of missiles.

That, and the lack of a jump makes rising up in the air more difficult for some missions.

How do you permaflight in AC4? What regulation are you supposed to use to achieve this? It feels like I'm playing an entirely different game than what the rest of you describe AC4 as. FA is easy but for some reason I just can't understand 4 at all.
>>
>>168875395
I played 4 on regulation 1.00 because it doesn't update for me anymore. It's actually quite a difficult AC game.
>>
>>168872234
PS1 AC runs at 26 FPS at best with constant drips to 20. PS2 AC runs at 60.

PS1 AC is stingy as fuck and that's why you need either excel or a calculator, especially in missions where you face those cunts that can tank energy weapons to the face like it's no big deal.
>>
>>168875395
>What regulation are you supposed to use to achieve this?

hahaha.

You don't need to change regs. Just learn the math. Make sure your main booster vertical consumption is less than your generator output - drain. You can do it pretty easily by throwing on Maxwell, Judith, and tuning for EN output, I believe, and using low-drain frame parts.
>>

PS2 AC doesn't run at 60fps. It runs at 30 full frames, aka, 60 half frames (NTSC). And AC2 does NOT run at 30 fps for half of its missions (or if you ever use missiles).

The first AC game that actually ran at consistent max FPS throughout the whole game is probably SL, or maybe nine breaker or LR. AC3 had a few really bad missions (especially the desert ones or missile spamming) and AC4/FA/ACV was a broken mess for FPS. VD is pretty solid though.

Why the fuck is Supplice model kit so expensive? Why is the kit's loadout wrong?
>>

Model kit loadout was probably chosen to diversify the part availability so people had more incentive to buy it. It's expensive because I don't think it's still in production anymore, so they're just reselling unopened boxes until it gets put back into production.

They're more "one world government" socialism with some privatized police/warfare in the form of a state-sponsored mercenary organization (Raven's Nest, etc.)

The only ANCAP universe is maybe AC2's Mars, but by the end of the game you change that. 4th gen seems fairly ANCAP unless you considered the League/Collared to be a one world government, and the Cradles are obviously more of a 1984 esque fascist or communist state.
>>
>>168936181
>They're more "one world government" socialism
How? The mere fact that corporations exist does not make it socialist. Unless I'm missing something here.
>>
>>168929662
Learn to second stage and how the boosters work.

Also, there are two thresholds for overweight. If your weight cap bar is "yellow" your speed (average speed stat) is halved. At Red, you are actually overweight and can't go on missions.

Your leg type has no impact on speed, it's all thrust vs weight. Your thrust in each direction depends on the boosters - in-air speed is also dependent on your vertical thrust, not just horizontal/side/back. So if you want to move fast in the air you want to combine high vertical thrust with high side/back/horizontal thrust in that direction, and then keep your weight low.
>>
>>168938194
Socialism isn't anti-corporation, you might be thinking of communism.

Socialism is community regulation of private assets, which is exactly what most AC universes are. You have private companies, but they are all controlled by a one world government (or AI, like Layered/The Controller). The whole point of using state-controlled mercenaries to solve inter-company conflict is socialist. It's literally community allocation of the resources of war.

Depends on the game and the enemy/mission.

MGs tend to be easy to use and high DPS, so they're usually a good choice in any mission, but EVERY enemy has some build that is better to use instead.

AC4 and FA probably had the worst balance and MGs (especially motorcobras) were completely OP, along with grenade cannons and the spread bazookas.

In Nexus through LR, many of the weapon arms are the strongest to use (especially CETUS).

In AC3 through SL, missile spam tend to be the most destructive.

In AC2 through AA, probably Sawa Mk2.

In AC1 through MoA there's a lot of individually OP weapons like FINGER and such that outclass everything else in the game.
>>
>>168941579
>>168942670
And in ACV/VD, MGs are pretty weak except against a few enemies where they are OP as fuck against. (there's one gatling gun in ACV that's very, very powerful but it was nerfed, and has basically the range of a shotgun now).

>widescreen
>Native online
>really nice graphics upscaling
>PPSSPP > PCSX2

>there's an online vs server so people can play online with each other, without using Kai or bullshit like that

The main drawbacks to LR:P are the controls (no second analog stick and no R2/L2) and the fact that it's harder due to a smaller lockbox. Both of these aren't an issue if you're a decent player on PC (with a PS3 controller).
>>
>>168969417
>no second analog stick
It doesn't have a cheat that allows you to aim with the right stick like Peace Walker does?
>>
>>168970067
You can completely remap the controls however you want. I just mean that there's no second analog -by default- so you have to go through a few menus to change the controls.

The one caveat here is that if you do a straightforward remapping (face buttons to R analog) then you can't purge because purging requires looking left and right at the same time in LR:P. You can solve this by just remapping things differently and then using the keyboard to purge (I have R arm as "1", L arm as "2" and shoulder as "3").
>>
>>168970274
You completely missed my point (with PW you can have actual analog aim if thanks to cheatcodes), also that's the beauty of emulators, having shit like turning off the AC2 generator limiter with the press of a single button
>>
>>168970414
I didn't miss your point, I answered you directly. It's PPSSPP. Peace walker isn't special, they all just use CWCheat to accomplish different things. What sort of "analog aiming" do you want in LR:P that you can't already get by just remapping the controls?

If you're asking "are there a bunch of ready-made-plug-and-play-cheats for me to use?" there's Human Plus but otherwise no, because the community hasn't really put a lot of effort toward making as many cheats for ACLR than they have for something like Peace Walker.

You can do the same shit with any emulator, including PCSX2, which would have far more cheats available anyway since the PS2 games have gamesharks and such to use.
>>
>>168970595
>What sort of "analog aiming" do you want in LR:P that you can't already get by just remapping the controls?
Actual analog aiming? If you rebind the right stick so that it sends the keypresses as if you were pressing the face buttons you won't have actual analog aim.
>>
>>168970783
> so that it sends the keypresses as if you were pressing the face buttons

I wasn't clear in my post. You set the face buttons *in-game* to look and then you set the face buttons *in ppsspp* to the analog stick. You have complete dual 8 direction analog that way.
>>
AAAAHHHHH!!!!
>>
>>168970783
If you mean 360 degree aiming, none of the AC games had that, I don't even think VD does. It's always just 8 directions. VD MIGHT have 360 degree analog but I don't think so

Right, Right+Up, Up, Up+Left, Left, etc. is how all the 1-4th gen games interpret movement. There's no input between the 45 degree angle sections.

ACFA is basically Undertale with robots. You have a neutral ending where you break free from earth, pacifist ending which lets you dream in the clouds, and genocide ending where you violently murder everyone. How hasn't Toby Fox been sued yet?

>>
>>169076590
is this bait

Also, the 3 endings are only an ACFA thing.

In most AC games you always end up as the most powerful person in the world, either by saving humanity from some AI or by destroying all the other threats/pilots.

ACLR and ACFA both have other options though, including those.

I don't pay much attention to the story in these games because I can barely tell what the fuck is going on, my ending involved helping some woman destroy two white nexts in a giant hallway with big things hanging from the ceiling, which ending was that?

>I don't pay much attention to the story in these games because I can barely tell what the fuck is going on

Pay more attention if you want to know what's going on. To understand the plot of most AC games you have to basically listen to every briefing and read every NEXT/Character description. The loading screens help a lot with ACFA.

Also, the first playthrough doesn't give you the whole plot, there's more behind each mission. You got the "easy/good" ending.

>>169120447
Leos Klein, maybe Zinaida. Evangel loses to Zinaida on a few occasions during the LR storyline depending on what the player chooses.

Zinaida could probably beat Leos Klein from AC2, but she was also at her peak and he was 90 years old. At Klein's peak he was probably the most skilled non-player-character pilot in AC history. For Player Characters, it's likely Strayed, LR, or VD's protagonist.

How about Anatolia's Merc? Sure he technically gets defeated eventually, but it literally takes another player character to do it (Strayed) or him being hardcountered by CUBE (he likely has Joshua's piloting data which is what allowed him to gain the upper hand). Plus you can argue that he was beyond his prime even during AC4 since he was already considered an old man then, and that by FA he was probably way too old to even be piloting anymore in the first place.
>>
>>169132879
The loading screens would help if I could actually read them fast enough.
Guess that's what I get for installing the game.

>>
>>169134905
Anatolia's Merc was in his prime, he started piloting very late. He can't be said to be very strong because he has few examples of success. The strongest fight he has to go against is fighting 4 half-weakened NEXTS at once. While that certainly makes him strong, it's not much compared to Strayed taking on 5 full power FA era NEXTs and numbers of arms forts. Even ARETHA is just a side character to beat for Strayed.

Anatolia's merc could be stronger, but there's no hard evidence of it therefore they can't assumed to be.

All this talk about Souls with robots reminded me of one of the favourite games from my childhood called Mechanoids, an actual open-world RPG set on a desolate planet where the humanity abandoned A.I.s built for testing weapons and combat vehicles long time ago and you actually play as such A.I. surviving in that world built around making weapons. Of course you can buy many parts and frames for your "body" (that was originally intended to end up being piloted by a human) and do quest and shit. The mechs aren't human-like though, they look like picrelated. The setting in those 2 games (there is a sequel, actually released in English as A.I.M. 2) is nothing like I ever experienced.
They should really make Armored Souls, where you just play (and move) as a robot.

You know, I used AALIYA frame as the start one in 4 and most of the parts of it carried me through all the game. Started with it again in FA and learned it's the oldest mass-produced NEXT and it holds up remarkably well, the FCS and thrusters in particular, almost no thrusters are as powerful even in FA. And it's still very good for fast-paced combat, although there is more than one faster design. But the only one I found to be better is LAHIRE, which is a ripoff with various improvements. Basically, guys at Rayleonard knew what they were doing.

I still find it funny how the MT pilots freak out and look to the Normals for help, as if the Normal pilots can put up any more of a fight. That mission really does set the tone for FA pretty well, considering Normals were at least potentially dangerous in AC4 if you didn't know what you were doing, yet they get annihilated like nothing when faced with an FA era NEXT.
>>
>>169408848

What does the MT stands for?
>>
>>169409450
Muscle Tracer. They're the mook units from all the classic AC games. Some show up in the 4 era, but they're more irrelevant than usual since Normal type ACs already exist. And Normals themselves are pretty irrelevant when a NEXT comes into the picture.

Nah, that's what fags do. We ride these out for all they're worth because we don't hit 750 very frequently.

Alright, discussion time then.

Raven's Nest makes some amount of sense, but what in the world was Collared's actual function? Since most of the mercs had a permanent allegiance anyway, why bother with the central merc organization? I know it's supposed to be a front for the League in order to control the Lynx, but it seems extremely unnecessary. I guess it's convenient for organizing arena matches and handling rankings.

Raven's Nest always made more sense to me since the Ravens were generally independent mercenaries that took jobs from anyone. The Nest felt more like an Outer Heaven type organization where mercs from anywhere could come together respectfully with their differences put aside because there's no absolute enemy for a Raven, just the target of your next contract. The feuds of the corporations would ruin that ideal if they had full control over the Ravens, which is what makes the Nest necessary for their lifestyle and the freedom they enjoy. Note that most of the pilots who take things too personally (such as Stinger) turn out to be renegade lunatics who don't belong in the Nest anyway.

Everything after LR was stupid plot-wise. Let's just go with that.
>>
AAAAAAAHHHHH!!
>>
Maneuverability - how fast the crosshair tracks the target
Aim precision - ?
I thought precision is determined by the projectile speed, what gives?
>>
>>169466432
I don't think so. 4 and FA generally had a pretty good and consistent plot. V was trash (Chief's memeing doesn't make up for how dumb the rest was) but VD was at least a tolerable sidestory with a pretty good finale, even if it does rank pretty low with the other games.

What things did you think were stupid in the plots of those games?
>>
>>169478965
I think maneuverability is how well you can track the target, while aim precision is how accurate the bullet itself is going to be. I've never been too sure how it works either though.

Don't worry.

We're getting a new Armored Core this year, that basically AC2 crossed with AC6, with story written by Ty Franck.

Forgetting the stupidity of Ubisoft, Bamco and Sega and how they poorly translated the plots, the games felt too much like drama and tragic fee-fees were being injected into the story. The game constantly asked me to care about someone's hometown, or their backstory, or their pitiful life. And I could sympathize, but it felt like a record on repeat for 4+ games. Fiona was all like "muh anatolia" and Wynne D was like "muh dreaming humanity" and Rosary was like "muh half robot sister who may or may not want us all dead" and Maggie was like "muh wounded pride". Lather, rinse, repeat.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate a change of pace from the norm, but at the end of the day, i don't want to be part of some prophecy about the dark raven. I don't want to be some chosen savior deciding humanity's fate. I just wanna blow up some robots. LR was at least more subtle about this, since you weren't destined to be the last raven. you had to literally scrape by and kill every other raven just to survive. I guess I just have a personal bias though, since LR is one of my favorites.
>>
>>169493034
I can see what you mean. I liked Fiona and the Anatolia plot personally, but I don't think you're obligated to care about it. Ultimately, AM is just paying off a debt to Anatolia for saving him and is going back to his mercenary job. Plenty of the games give you a basic backstory and motivation, so this is nothing new.

The point of Wynne was that you're not really supposed to sympathize with her. She's a brainwashed corporate shill who can't think long term and ruins everything for everyone by opposing Omer's plan, and likely dooming humanity (and causing one possible string of events that can lead to ACV).

Rosary was entertaining as a character, but definitely a boring plot point. I agree on this one, didn't care at all about anything in ACV.

Maggie wasn't too compelling either, but I did manage to get attached to the character. It felt really awkward during the second half when it's just you and Fatman and he takes over full time as your operator.

Also the Dark Raven thing was bullshit. There wasn't any actual prophetic stuff going on there, just a bunch of vague BS. I think the Foundation man himself even says so at some point.

I do see what you mean in general though. I guess it's more of a subjective thing.
>>
>>169493034
Personally, I always felt that V and VD have a more "slice of life" approach to the plot. On V while the main story have all the rebellion VS father stuff, the way it presented if more about makes me feel that the focus was more about you and your small group than any real big war going on, it helps that this time there isnt any big coorporation or something, is just a small conflict on a isolated part of the world, and while lackluter, the order missions felt like a "day by day" merc life until MoH appear in full force around the second half, with a climax against Zodiac, and all in all, it was a really personal fight since you didnt fight against them because other influence (like anatolias merc that basically became the star pilot of GA during 4) forcing you to do it.

VD open with "this is the story of a lone mercenary and a forgot" and clearly, despise the 3 factions war going on, and even the UNACs going crazy , you dont have a impact on it like in previous game, and focus more on how the reaper squad hunts you and your small team, most of the AC fights, are implied that were done by the foundation putting a bounty or directly contracting others to hunt you down, and most of them were mercs, so you wanst attacking the main pilots of the other factions (most of the time) that will cause a change on the forces of the factions.

> you're not really supposed to sympathize with her.

Since it's a game with multiple endings, and everthing paints Wynne as the only with some decency, I doubt that that game tries to put her on the wrong.

>Also the Dark Raven thing was bullshit.

That's the point, we know the real story, it wasnt any profetic shit or epic struggle that changed the world, it was all in Maggy's head, Foundation man knows what is she talking about and basically mock her and her delusion, he is still afraid of wild card like that appearing again, but it isnt something greater than that.

>>169497045
>Since it's a game with multiple endings, and everthing paints Wynne as the only with some decency, I doubt that that game tries to put her on the wrong.
Her "answer" is to change nothing and let the system stay as it is and continue destroying the world. It's obvious she has good intentions since her entire motivation is to avoid directly killing millions of people personally, but I think her ending is supposed to leave you dissatisfied since it doesn't actually solve the problem, leading you to your next playthrough to find another answer.
>>
>>169497509
That's the fun part, her answer at first is the one you can consider "good" since it prevents a lot of death (in the short term), proably can lead to a short peace time since the cradles were in great danger and the companies should do something about it, and mantains the status quo (that depending of the person the status quo is always the good thing), but in the long term it will cause a slow death to humanity.

Then we have ORCA, kill a lot of people (but with good changes of a lot of them surviving) to open the road to space, that with the tech level on FA, clearly they could build space colonies or something, but also opens the way for a new space race, and a new war this time, but everthing could save humanity in the long run, after destroying the world first of course.

one thing i've noticed about miyazaki's world-building and storytelling style is that of what i like to call "dishonest narrative" in which the "facts" are given to you, the player, in such a way that at the time of dissemination, you don't really have any choice but to believe it
what this does is it lulls you into this sense of comfort that, ultimately, gets dismantled by you, the player (ie. the game doesn't outright come out and tell you the league is pointless; you make that distinction alone), making it effective as a storytelling device
i'm sure other people have different experiences when it comes to how they feel about these games' stories but for me, the coolest feeling is having this internal struggle with yourself once you have enough information to realize that the narrative you'd been given in the beginning doesn't add up: it has lulled you into this sense of comfort that only you, the player, can get out from. in dark souls, it's the legend of the chosen undead and frampt. in for answer, it's the league.
you want to believe these to be benevolent factions in otherwise dead worlds; you want to believe there is a greater good here. but play enough and read into the information there and you realize that it's all lies, lies that may not be obvious at first but become clear later on. i think it's brilliant and some of the most tastefully done storytelling in video games

In VD are any of the parts you get at A rank worth the sub quest grind?
>>
>>169544707
Yeah, the best heavy legs in the game, Flame.
You also get Streks and Moonlights when you hit A.
Oh, and the Knuckle. Can't forget the Knuckle.
>>
>>169545148
Thanks, I will keep at it.
>>
I hope the next AC game gets a PC release and also that the the game is closer to 3 and 5 rather then 4.
>>
>>169544707
A rank is pretty easy to get to, it's hardly a grind. Every mission you S rank brings you two times closer than A ranking a mission, so you can afford to have a bunch of leftover Bs and Cs so long as you also have a ton of S ranks to balance them out.

>>169545148

>>169546818
Huh, never used pulse guns. For some reason I can't get into the feel of energy weapons in fifth gen. How do I git gud at them?

Also 750 get.
>>
>>169547005
Well done.
For pulse guns, you have to get pretty close. Like, the scale is spitting distance to rectal exam and it depends on the pulse gun you're using.
Anyway, so you get close, fire three or four shots, and then realize that you've bottomed out and try to retreat, which is difficult because you don't have any energy left.
Then you switch to laser rifles.
>>
>>169547005
Best use of a pulse gun is to use them exactly like a shotgun. Because that's exactly what they are. In fact, pair one Napa with a shotgun, and you can deal some very effective damage to light ACs, and even a few mids, due to stagger/armor break mechanics. Hell, you might even stagger-lock a light biped with the shotgun, allowing you to follow up with as many barrages as your generator can give you.
