A-Life mod just enables offline simulation to all locations, instead of simulating stuff only on current level and locations linked to it with transition points.

I'm currently playing coc with some mods.Nothing fancy but I have a few issues like cardan being constantly drunk unlike the mechanic in rostok who I gave his 'third bottle of vodka' for the twentieth time with no effect what so ever. And i can't' seem to find basic tool kits anywhere in the zone. I looted 15 stashes and own 3 advanced and 3 expert toolkits. Am I just really unlucky or what?

Not quite - the actual list of stash contents is generated once at game start and saved in the .scoc file. It's looked up when you open a stash and the items that are supposed to be in it are spawned right then. This way the game doesn't have to track hundreds of items in stashes. It also prevents save scumming before opening a stash.

Take a look at scripts/coc_treasure_manager.script it has the full story. Here, in Alun's words:

This script spawns loot, randomly, inside all INVBOX class objects. Loot is determined on new game start and stored
within the .scoc as a string. When the cache is opened, the loot is spawned.

A list of all valid item sections is generated automatically by parsing all of system_ini(). From this list, loot can be obtained. If you do not
want a certain section from being spawned, put it in 'plugins\coc_treasure_manager.ltx' 'ignore_sections'.

A valid item section is determined by several factors:
1. It must have can_trade = true
2. It must have quest_item = false
3. It must not have '_mp' in it's section name
4. It must have a valid 'inv_name' value
5. 'cost' must be greater than 0

To debug or to obtain a list of valid item sections, simply enable DEV_DEBUG (-dbg in command line).
You shall find a 'valid_item_sections.ltx' in your main game directory after you start a new game.

To debug the actual results, start a new game. Then while in the loadscreen menu ctrl+left-click on the new 'autosave'. You
will find the <filename>.lua in your savegame folder. Search the file for 'caches'

This patch breaks STCoP, so don't apply over it just yet. The STCoP guy released a supposed fix that includes a quest mod in it, dunno what's up with that. May want to wait and see before updating if you're using STCoP.

Install is 1.0d repack + 1.0d fix 1 + STCoP patch in that link + English translation.

That clobbers some changes by STCoP to the st_items_equipment, but that's better than losing all translation on gear.

Loners are the true enemy in Wrafare. They spawn like rats and infest everything. They get neutral, start squatting in other factions' bases, and then declare war and kill everybody over and over.

In my game they've completely taken over Agroprom, Rostok, and Yanov doing that.

Well true warfare wouldn't let you pull that ruse over and over and over again. People ought to catch wise, but the faction relations reset throws a wrench into that.

Can scripts store global state or define their own savegame attributes or anything? I think it'd be nice if the faction relations reset point didn't always go to 0 and instead could be permanently adjusted. So if a faction keeps declaring war and getting to -5000, there comes a point where they stop resetting. And likewise, if a faction is consistently an ally, they'll stay an ally.

So maybe like every time there's a reset, the 0 point is adjusted by 1/10th or 1/20th of the current relationship score.

I reinstalled CoC 1.4 and the patch recently. And like every other stalker it comes with crashes. It crashes on level loads after a few minutes of play, it crashes randomly in the middle of play. That's usually my problem. I stop playing because I get bored but the very next day I get the STALKER itch again, start the game up, go out on a trip and end up bored and quit when I get back to base, and then repeat.
I really need to try out those story mods. It disappoints me how little custom storyline mods there are, and especially how few new maps there are.

Also they're probably not shooting you if you did enough quests to even out your reputation. Maybe even having the quests prevents you from being targeted.
I've been at war with Duty before, but occasionally I didn't get shot at because some of the duty squads were yellow or green.

Ok S.T.A.L.K.E.Rs I have some CoM questions for you guys. I played Misery quite a bit and was wondering if some of the same guidelines worked. First off guns, I knew that in Misery it was a good idea to have one decent ranged weapon that had good ammo for piercing armor, usually one that the default ammo had good AP capabilities, so you could save your actual AP ammo for oh shit moments, like Pseudos, Chimeras, Monos in Exos, etc. Usually a shotgun of some sort for backup and for the buckshot for anti-tissue based damage. Once you can afford one, i knew .45 pistols were usually a really good backup sidearm. They had DU rounds that were really good at AP and AT. Is any of this still accurate and is it feasible to maintain these weapons? I know the economy is kinda screwed up at the moment. Secondly is Armor and Armor attachments. In misery i generally felt it was easiest to stick with some shitty, cheap to repair armor with some aluminum/titianum frames in the slots. As I understood it having a higher carryweight let you run longer and bring more loot back, but you didnt have that great of stamina regen, but that could be offset by caffeine/drugs. I usually stuck with that until i saved up enough for real armor, since being hit usually is a death sentence, i preffered to save on meds and such by being really sneaky/careful and usually just letting my character die if the wounds were less profitable to heal. Also with armor attachments, as i said, the way i understood mobility = survivability so maximum carry weight was better than stamina regen or additional armor from steel plates/kevlar. Is any of this stuff true for CoM? I have d with stcop, and the english patch. I dont have the full descriptions for all the weapons, but I felt i was familar enough with the guns to be able to guess on attachments. I've made resonable progress so far and I've managed to save up for a Mosin and a MP-133, but holy fuck is it a grind to make money. Suggestions?

economy is not fucked though, it's just ammo is expensive and ineffective way (read as "selling broken junk") to grind money is actually ineffective. pistols are good when you can't afford anything better. they are rarely an effective weapon in mods though. spend your money on ammo carefully, don't waste rifle bullets on mutants - instead use buckshot. use IEDs and grenade launchers for especially tough ones.
about carry weight - just get the QR system, will save your life million times till the very end game. getting mid-tier suits (instead of saving a lot of money for those expensive) is actually a reasonable thing to do unlike in misery.

What's a respectable damage value Controllers can inflict for CoM 1.0d? It's way too realistic for me

Took the better part of 10 minutes the other day to figure out why my rookie bandit's screen was randomly turning yellow then dropping dead half a second later; a Controller was hugging one of the outer walls of the base and apparently AoE psychic damage only effects the player, not the NPCs.

depends how badly it was damaged. it's usually cheaper to repair rare/expensive guns yourself using repair kits. you can repair 25% SVU spending only about 30k. you want 1x 25% repair kit with 1 usage left, 1 65% universal repair kit with 2 usages left and then some 85%-90% glue/grease to patch it up a bit more.

CoM doesn't crash at all in the swamps for me, or elsewhere even with Autumnal Winds and the Redux packs installed. It's very stable, like CoC.

Are you using the SWTC skyboxes? Those will cause out of memory crashes in CoC and elsewhere if used with other high res packs.

Something I noticed is that if I have anti-aliasing turned on at all, it eventually leads to a lack of memory crash. But of course Stalker can only use 3-4gb of RAM, whereas I have another 10 or so available.

Anything even halfway modern should be able to play it. Try this: Use the DX9 2.5 renderer (Extended Full Dynamic Lighting) and don't bother with DX10 or 11. 11 is broken and 10 adds a lot of overhead for little gain (volumetric smoke and wet surface shaders - that's it).

Set the graphics quality to Maximum, open the advanced tab. Set Sun Quality, Rays and Ambient Occlusion to medium or low, you won't see much difference. Disable Antialiasing and DoF. Max out the rest of your sliders - move them all to the right.

Fiddle with your grass settings from the console: a radius of 100 and a density of 0.2 or so is usally good enough.

Texture packs like Autumnal Winds, Absolute Nature or Structures Redux are fine and won't blow your memory. Skybox textures like in the SWTC port will do so, however, so don't use that unless you're ok with the odd out of memory crash.

I don't know what happened, but I was playing 1.0c earlier and just upgraded to 1.0d and it seems to be running much better without fucking with the textures.

The footsteps on dirt sound sucks though.
And I need to get rid of the VFX for radiation.
It'd be nice to get rid of the Gov change with pistols too.

the tweaks posted in the translation comments are good. the modified aa2 hud restores rad symbols and removes crappy bleeding fx. its the one in the pic above. got used to the footsteps though some are better than default but i know what you mean.
