I'm happy to hear E:D will get multicrew but I hope SC don't go for the power "pip" they talk about.

Multicrew is supposed to be interesting because an human get to use better the already existing game mechanic, not because you are magically awarded better efficiency.

In fact, considering DAD mentality, I find it strange this features was considered at all. You can count on Dad to have it nerfed

In order for multicrew to be fun each player has to feel like they're actively contributing, which is probably why ED went with the extra pip that each crew member gets to assign as well as the fact that fighters are the main draw to multicrew. I figure most other things just weren't that fun. Also you can't make one system just 10x stronger because there is a person in that seat. I know the examples you linked are for SC but lets see how it would pan out if we assume them to be potentially applicable to ED multicrew:

Maybe some kind of shield management could be fun, if the person had the ability to detect the exact direction the damage was coming from they could direct all shield energy to it. That might be some what engaging.

And some kind of systems management player who plays little mini games to make your things go by faster, like jumping, grabbing cargo, mining, fuel scooping and all sorts of shit.

It's barely even fast travel. I'd actually class it nearly as a separate minigame entirely, much like CQC, except with multicrew you can actually earn credits towards your main character.

It's, again just like CQC, a pretty detached part of the game that you'd only do if you had a bored friend who was autistic enough to put all his weapons as turrets. It'll be fun for a bit but it'll get old very fast. Has potential for more grinding exploits if large ships will be as overpowered as it looks with the extra pips going to shields, so you might be able to get a few /edg/lords into a few Cutters or Corvettes to go grind 17D or the like together, with their engineered and multicrew'd ships barely taking damage and all sharing mission counts and combat bonds.

Exactly what I mean, I won't mind being confined to a single station if it was useful AND operating it had enough gameplay value, but that might prove difficult to implement, or at least I don't see it as being that easy.

NPC crew or AI modules can be cool too, if done properly I don't think they will be able to replace a player at 100% efficiency anyways.

I guess the stretch goals themselves made that very hard to do with all those extra features that makes all other features a lot harder to do. Ironic isnt it...

You want feature 1 that takes X amount of time and you want feature 2 that takes Y amount of time in your game.

In Star Citizen that means (X+Y)^2 in total time for those.

VR, on the other hand, is near impossible to implement with current tech, because of FPS nature of gameplay. There is a reason all VR FPS games are shooting galleries with teleportation mechanics. Motion sickness is gonna be an issue for a good while yet.

Open is still kind of fun to play in, but it's pretty barren most of the time. I've played the game a lot and been killed only once, when some le epic meme was camping outside of a station in the middle of nowhere because he claimed the system was his and his clan was a PvP clan. He found himself back at Trevithick Dock in his Sidewinder. And so it goes.

Although he remained a neutral Cmdr, I wish to thank him for his efforts to help the Empire with various covert and BGS missions- it was an honour to fly with him in various combat zones. He will be sorely missed.

I hope that some day I can find a star with his name on it.

Frontier's VR support was absolute minimum effort implementation and it works just fine. E:D is easily one of the best VR games out there.

The only thing that makes SC more difficult is the walking in first person gameplay which would make some people sick. But they could basically just ignore those people and slap the VR camera into the game anyway and say they honoured the promise. There would still be a lot of VR heads who would play the game, some of them would just stick to flying the ships and not do much on-foot stuff.

As an anon above mentioned, you can very cheaply fit a Hauler that gets, if I remember correctly, nearly 30-ly jumps unmodded. Slap a fuel scoop on it and you're all set. You don't usually need more than a fuel tank, with a C-grade scoop you'll usually top or near top yourself just by going around the main star.
When plotting the route: filter by stars, check KGBFOAM stars only (and also maybe carbon, etc) then "apply filter to route", I think that will force the route to drop you to a scoopable star every time if possible.
I'd get an AFM instead of the tank just in case.

Get a FSD interdictor and look for players whose rank is not above yours. Make sure to check their ship as well so you're not attacking a anaconda for instance.

If you don't want to be labeled as a griefer, who am I kidding, of course you will, then make up some roleplaying reason for attacking. You could be for instance pledged to the Empire and you're attacking Federation players. Or you could be a pirate or bounty hunter.

I haven't tried CQC, but it reminds me of battlegrounds in WoW. An artificial arena that lacks any kind of soul. I've always been a proponent for open PvP, where it is formed organically, this is where you get all the good PvP stories.

Imagine if EvE was fully PvE except for a similar artificial PvP arena. You would never get any of those PvP stories where a corporation attack another and it becomes a huge war e.t.c. It would just be another grind-fest and I hate how those carebear dads don't see that.

More or less, @.6 was mostly just a technical patch, 3.0 will actually be a game that warrants playing and discussion, if you played 2.5 you played like 98% of 2.6. Different flight model was an improvement IMO, and Im glad missiles are finally worth firing, but beyond that theres just not a helluva lot to do.


Grind credits to buy temporary things that get wiped every patch or grind rec to rent shit that I already used during a free fly week.

AC is decently fun but it gets repetitive and the tiny scale of the map really does turn it into a all out brawl with no real room for tactics. Can't flank and skitter if there an instant death barrier 1500m behind you.

The only real balance objection I hold right now is that the only thing requires to spoof a missile below like S5 is a functional brain and afterburners.

No, you are lacking a critical details.
The "dad" would force people to only get aboard someone else ship if they are at range to physically walk in (or if they accept telepresence) at radio range.
But SC will just have players go from their lobby/hangar to a existing npc-crew member anywhere in the galaxy. Because that's fun. That's "instant gratification" fun to invite friends whenever you need it.

"Dads" are a archetype of people who don't want to admit they are playing a game. Mature people like them are investing themselves in a highly sophisticated simulator.
And when they can't have that (because ED is still fictional) they'll fight against Instant gratification until there is no gratification at all.

The big hope for Star Citizen is not its realism, it's for sacrificing as much realism as you need yet still retain a Firefly/StarWars/Battlestar/<insertwhateveryoulike> ambiance.

2) Fast travel. The best you'll likely see for a few years until someone makes something better. It's a much better speed than 0.2c.

The only good thing about SC's quick travel is the quantum slipstream animation which we haven't seen much more of in probably 2 years. It could have been scrapped for all we know.

3) Offline/Online mode. SC is forced to make players host their own little private server which is probably limited to a single moon. It could have had the best multiplayer options in history but at the moment the project is like a pipe dream. Allowing players to go offline whenever they like is very accommodating to many people.

4) Ship design. They don't spend an eternity refactoring stupid designs of awful-looking ships. They are just geometrically simple and functional with a symmetrical design, and they go by an animal species theme and all have matching aesthetics. ED ships are practical and don't need a billion polygons and stuff. No one in ED complains about lack of fidelity of their ship textures.

5) Weapons. They are just better and there's more of them.

I hate the ED ship looks.
It makes me feel like playing the original Elite with nicer colors which isnt aestheticaly pleasing for me.

I'm a cyberpunk fan, so I require flashy crazy designs which still makes sense. Not boring dull "trying to be realistic" designs.

But yeah ED is released and is still getting updates, but I feel every update is pretty lacklusters. It's just small tiny boring unimportant stuff.

When I start a game, I set my goal for something. Either becoming really good at dogfighting. Becoming a good trader or smugler by inowing how to avoid scanners, police etc... But ED seems to make every thing I want to do just simple and boring.

That's what makes me hope that SC will be a better game and so far the flight model, ship designs, planetary landing. Star Marine, Boarding, aliens I can meet, mining, salvaging, refining etc.. All seem to make it a more interestning game.

BUT again, this all require it to actually come out and also that the promised features are there within a reasonable amount of time.

I like simple ship geometry for the most part. I guess Babylon 5 is the exception to the rule. That's why I like ED's ships, they are blocky and simple, functional and practical.

I'm not so hyped for SC any more, it's taking way too long, too many delays and too many blunders making CIG look like liars or incompetent.

If it does finally come out, it will have some really nice graphics and fidelity. But to be honest, the longer it takes to come out, the more people will catch up and even overtake it in terms of visual fidelity. I think the new Battlefront is nicer-looking and it's like a year or so old. And Battlefront 2 is in production.

Point Defence for missiles, but missiles suck against shield so if you're a shield tank I don't recommended wasting the slot.

A mix of resistance and heavy boosters works best. Also I wouldn't do bi weave if you go heavy on shields, at that point regen is too slow, get prismatic if you can.

Depends on how much money you have, but back when 17 Draconis had a super famine and everyone grinded donation missions, any donations over 300k gave the same amount of rep. So don't take the donation missions over 300k.

For a short exploration trip, it doesn't matter. But for longer (~25000LY+) I would absolutely go with a second AFM. The reason I say that is because you cannot refuel it since you don't own horizons. I've only tried lowering the class with thrusters which perform poorly because they end up trying to push a ship far heavier than their optimal mass. Keep an eye on your weight in Outfitting and compare it against thruster optimal mass values. Also, sometimes smaller power distrubutors won't let you boost due to low ENG capacity.

It feels so shitty to fly in normal space that I never really thought about keeping it like that, but getting caught by a pirate like that would really suck.

I've recently bought a FDS and it's one of the most fun ships I've flown. Hull tanked the fuck out of it, multicannons on all hardpoints. It's basically a very maneuverable space A-10, just abuse boost and FA-off and you can do circles around enemies using lateral thrusters and hammering the ever loving shit out of them. I'm almost to ensign so I haven't tried the FGS but I'm definitely going to try it out.
