So do you think Bannerlord will have battles with more than 2 sides, like the tournaments in Warband?

Would be pretty neat to have 2 sides having it out then a third one come in and join the fray. Though with how battles work I guess this could eventually lead to one giant cluster fuck with people constantly joining the fight from the over-world map.

As you mentioned Warband's engine can already support battles of more than two sides.

The real query is likely the following:

1) Can you join a battle against both forces already engaged in battle

2) Can other forces interrupt an ongoing battle that you are already involved in

I suspect Talesworld will evade this due to AI vs AI vs AI logic on the map but it would be neat.

If you're leading an army, and you see two enemy armies fighting, I'd think you would let them fight it out and attack after.

Mechanically it makes sense since battles on the world map can take hours if not days to resolve.

Even if the player did not freeze time when engaged in battle it may still be more efficient to just wipe them both out rather than waste food, morale, and time (opportunity cost).

Its a castle in North Africa. This region I believe. Actually did this last night so I can't recall.

The terrain somehow screws with archer AI such that even if you position archers in logical places they will never fire.

That thing I am in has the worst characteristics of a ladder and a siege tower combined into one.

And it later empties out onto a bottleneck where ranged can shoot at you from your flanks while you are surrounded by infantry of different elevation. The side walls will also confuse invader AI, making them stuck even if there are no enemies there.

The only way I could take that castle was to suicide charge that bottleneck myself, clear out the area, and then manually order my infantry/cavalry to move beyond that area.

This would primarily affect the Hafted Blade and how many people seriously use that weapon mounted in Native anyways? Unless you are flanking an unaware archer line getting that close to incoming infantry to actually do a cleave with a low reach weapon is already extremely dangerous, especially in mods where horses aren't tanks.

Many swinging weapons such as the Poleaxe and Glaive lose their swinging capability once mounted. This can be balanced by modifying the moveset in a similar fashion.

you only have yourself to blame. If you are new though, then save up enough money through tournaments or doing quests for guildmasters/lords to purchase an enterprise in a city for weekly cash flow. Mercs cost something like 1.5x more per week compared to their kingdom level counterparts of the same level so you should really try to get kingdom if you can afford the time spent training the. troops get +/- morale based on who they fight, so if you have rhodok troops and you kill ehodoks their morale will go down but if you have swadians and Swadia is at war with Rhodoks, you kill rhodoks and their morale will go up

I'm the Marshall though?

IIRC they give you full command during sieges even if you aren't Marshal as well. Its been a while so I am doubting myself here a bit. I tend to siege solo in most mods or ignore offensive sieges as a mercenary since they are a waste of time (allows very low renown and loot, talking to lords for +1 relations is a pain).

For some reason, Viking Conquest is showing Native-sized battle sizes in the menu, though in battle the battle sizes are what you would expect for VC. To try and explain it better:

You'll get a army of specialized peasants, at first. So I think I said a couple days ago I was working on a WWI mod
well, here it is:

couple things:
When I said it was a WWI mod I meant that it doesn't actually take place during WWI
Also it had to be split it up into two parts because sendspace is a bitch
part two is the textures, part one is everything else

This uses a bunch of fun scripts, some of which were in red wars, like the ability to zoom in on sniper rifles, and automatic weapons
There are buildable sandbags which you can see in the picture, equip the sandbag item and hit g to deploy
There are also healing bandages sold as goods, as long as you have some in your inventory you'll be healed when you press h
you're going to want to do that, trust me

Also several of the rifles have bayonet versions, you can switch between them with the b key
there was supposed to be an animation but it doesn't seem to actually work
WFAS formations and motomataro battle ai are in there too

Also many fun bugs
replace the map_min bits in module.ini with this to be able to scroll around fully:

The deathcam from gekokujo is implemented but doesn't actually work and I'm not sure why

Yeah, the AI could never do that. It's not like grand strategy, 4x, or rts genres exist.

I think the real problem is that AI autocalcs every battle against other AI, which is always a bloodbath on both sides, which means that any progress the AI may gain is wasted on enormously costly battles even when they win, when proper battles are usually much more one-sided.

The autocalc in general is just unbelievably shit, to the point where a bunch of peasants will kill fully armored high tier troops with high regularity, which is probably why the AI always has huge shit armies of peasants in the first place and few high tier troops. It also gives NO in-battle EXP, which is the majority of the EXP that battles generate to begin with.

I remember reading that mounted combat culture was also weakening in many regions in Japan as well. Part of the reason Takeda and Uesugi were renown for the Cavalry was that they were among the few clans that could really leverage such Cavalry.

Then you have other factions such as the Oda and Otomo whom embraced and integrated western technology and you have another vector.

In trying to make a historically accurate mod or simply embracing variety for fun I think the bigger shame is being too scared to attempt it at all.

Geko just really needs boats in general. The map is very long and narrow and full of mountains, trying to travel it by foot is slow and bottlenecked as fuck. Boats would alleviate this immensely and increase the number of war/trade options significantly. Not to mention it fits the setting considering Japan's history as sea raiders and fishermen.

Following the AI around during wars is terrible because most of the time they'll make stupid decisions and not take cities that they can to, instead, roam around the absolute other side of the map with the entire campaigning army. So you kind of are forced to play by yourself.

Pretty much everyone does. If you command your army better, have some good troops, and actually employ basic tactics you will crush equally sized opponents with minimal casaulties.

Invest in path-finding so you can always choose whether to fight or not, and surgery, so that your troops will likely be wounded instead of dead.

I play 1/2 player with only cloth (1.5 or less weight) armor, 1:1 everything else as melee-only infantry. It lets me run fast while still having a respectable HP pool, and seems harder than 1:1 with top tier armor since even bottom tier mooks (which is 99% of the game) can still hitstun and fuck me up, whereas high tier armor makes you pretty much invincible.

If anything my biggest problem, as always, is that once I get a nice stack of high-end troops they're basically unbeatable even at 1:1 damage.

But speaking honestly, the relatively short length of the weapon in conjunction with the rapid attack speed make it awesome when dealing with cavalry and can even be used in close quarter against infantry with surprising efficiency, ain't nothing like poking some dirty crossbow-wielding, arse-aiming, non-concensual-mountain-goat-shagger besieging cunt repeatedly in the face with a feet of forged iron. Also since its a spear the couching bonus still applies when on horseback, so it can easely negate the base -30% to dmg and speed that polearms have when used on horseback. The speed malus barely matter.

otherwise i think it was very minor alterations to inventories which are save game compatible, deflagged skirmishers from being ranged (though i may have done that for the beta i don't remember) since any unit with a ranged weapon in their possible inventory will be forced spawned with one in battle/siege scenes in 1257, so flagging them with a ranged weapon would set them to archers, but unflagged it sets them to infantry so they work a lot better (since you don't have to manually recategorize them to infantry, the unit class actually affects the AI too depending on what the player sets it to)

There is a certain little Port in Viking Conquest that you should never attack by sea. Because you don't actually attack the town itself, but appear outside of it on your boats.

And you will be separated from the town itself by a giant hill you will have to walk up, and thousands of archers/slingers/skirmishers/crossbowmen (depending on which faction owns the town).

Don't risk your lives out there. Raid another port.

Marriage doesn't actually seem to take into account hostility or faction transfers at all. For example, defecting while waiting for the wedding doesn't actually fail the marriage quest, and she'd still talk about the wedding while at war (interestingly enough, it also seemed to force non-hostile dialogue even when you're being chased down, always giving you the option to leave).

I'll do some experimentation (read: savescumming), but my main goal is to get wed or close to the wedding while peacefully within the faction, then defect once there's no waiting to see what happens. My goal from the beginning is to have both Kenshin and my own kingdom, so I'll be damned if I don't find a way to make it a reality.

Kingdoms will be reluctant to make peace if you are overly dominant to save face. Take some territories then let them take it back and they will save face and fatigue themselves of interest.

Beating down lords until you have them all in your prisons so that they cannot declare war leaves you in a situation as you described: May as well finish them off at that point. Due to escape rates it is also much less efficient IRL time.

If you marry a lord as a female you automatically become a vassal to their faction, so it's unlikely that this would be any different. The real question is what happens if you defect while married to a ruler, since a ruler presumably can't defect with you.

My bet is that you just defect like normal, your wife/husband stays with the original faction, and you essentially lose any marriage-related benefits while still technically being married, because no fun allowed.

Is there an intelligent way to deal with the really slow rate units level up in Viking Conquest by default or is it just a slow pain in the ass and you should use 'beginner' leveling for an enjoyable experience?

Last time I played it worked out to be a pillaging dickhole and just recruit bandits but I wouldn't mind using legal troops other than tavern mercenaries being a good alternative.

One of the main reasons Swadians get stomped non-stop, is because they share a border with literally everyone else.

You don't really see Nords and Rowdy Rhoddies duking it out, until they bridged the gap through Swadian territory, same with any other disconnected factions.

Native AI only charges immediately if its a bandit group or the AI thinks it has an overwhelming advantage.

Otherwise they either camp or will do that peculiar gradual line advancement -- I call the latter peculiar because watching two AI advance in this fashion can be perplexing at times. Especially once they start circling each other before finally engaging.

I've never seen that message, sounds like you told them to attack a specific division instead of just positioning them somewhere/charging. Returning to formation is actually useful since cav is most deadly in the initial charge.

this works? I'm going to try this when I am able but if so thats pretty radically dumb but funny. I wouldn't be surprised considering how I can seemingly trick the AI into charging me by damaging them with projectiles when I ride off alone.

Another oversight of the Formations mod actually is that the unit logic is tied to the unit category (infantry, archer, cavalry). If you create custom unit categories (such as Skirmisher, I expect most have experienced this) the Formations mod won't know what to do with them and they will immediately begin charging your forces.

It absolutely works. When the AI gets into a staring contest with you I used to run ahead and kill an enemy archer or an enemy horse, but then I accidentally killed my own horse once and the enemy started charging.
Dunno why the fuck it's that way but it is. Works every time too.

Formations mod will usually have archers advancing first with infantry just behind, I suspect to deal with potential LOS issues while advancing. If you advance on them the infantry will push ahead to cover the archers but if you are harassing the archers solo they will never catch you.

Enemy lord will always hang out doing nothing with the infantry blob.

Cavalry will usually try to flank you but sometimes they get stuck in their own infantry blob.

Thats what the enemy forces gets for having their cavalry suicide charge "flanking" your forces earlier.

While the dense infantry formation is great formations AI also makes them far too passive or defensive.
