Castle is of debatable use, especially for a new player since he's countered by a lot of breaching tools which are very common and if you aren't careful you'll lock your own team down and limit their mobility. Blitz is sadly bugged and often his shield is useless and you get shot in the head right through it.

Rook is a great beginner OP and he translates all the way up to pro level. Thatcher is a useful buddy for thermite/hibana and thermite is important to have on most team comps but you need to be careful to stay alive and of course know where to breach.

So, if you had played ranked before, you would've probably placed in Silver or Bronze.

Even if you got a high MMR, it will just equate to getting a lot of points per victory and losing a lot of points per victory.

I was plat and got placed in silver for this new season because literally 8 of my allocation matches had at least 1 quitter (most of them were 2) so I lost most of them. But I still had platinum MMR so I was winning 78 points per victory...but at the same time I was losing 78-80 points per defeat.

The guys who designed the MMR system fucked bad, and now there's an actual elohell in the game. The lower skill levels are plagued wtih former golds/plats who rape the actual low levels, or who rape you because they were higher than you in past seasons. I've literally been matched against diamonds while in silver, the worst part is that the game considers YOU to be the "changing point" of a team, so it throws you with the lowlies and considers it to be "balanced" to throw a team of experienced players against you, because you're a "pro" evening things out.

Hell, if you win like 3 games in a row, the game starts matching you against higher level enemies because it thinks youre "steamrolling"; meanwhile your MMR suffers no changes, so now you gotta try twice as hard to get those 10 consecutive victories because you're getting pitted against much higher ranks

All it does is limit options for new players, and if they intended for it to make it harder for new players to take ops that would be too advanced or important for their skill, then a level lock on those ops would be more effective.

Will Year 2 follow year 1 in that the 1st new operators released are always the best ones?

Does anyone else have problems loading the Favelas map? I get stuck on that screen with the flashing r6 logo until the prep phase is over. If I'm on attack, it puts me into drone mode, and when I press 5 to close it, my op just puts away his phone and immediately pulls it back out. On defense it just skips the prep phase and I can play normally until I have to attack.

I think I'm having something similar happen on Border, too. But it only takes me until 20 seconds into prep to load, so it's not a big deal.

I've tried reinstalling the game, I've got my ports forwarded and the game's on an SSD, so it should be fast enough.
