Sadly I noticed. It's one of the reasons why I am always on the fence on whether to buy 4 or not. I don't like that the new characters were drawn by the anime artist (I dislike most of the BASARA anime, I saw it before playing the games and it gave me the opposite impression: boring and static), and I surely don't like that they had to push a rivalry as one sided as Masamune VS Mitsunari. Mitsunari barely thinks anything of Masamune, and the core of his character was his love for Hideyoshi: why would he care about anything that is not killing Ieyasu at that point?
And Masamune and Yukimura are just better rivals. It's a match made in heaven: the personalities are the perfect, harmonious yin and yang like any rivalry in a cuhrayzee game should be. The bantz is heartwarming and makes your heart burn. Yes they also are quite a good couple but even if I was not into yaoi I would still think the same: that they are two sides of the same coin and the decision so push something else was an idea as good as making Dante's rival not Vergil (read: shit).

I also can't stand many other decisions. I heard Keiji is Magoichi's lapdog even more than he was in 3, you can't do that to the coolest character. Ieyasu was basically the protagonist of 3, now he is irrelevant... Makes Mitsunari's character shine much less if you ask me, they need their opposites to work properly, and I say this as somebody who preferred child Ieyasu and can't stand BOONNNNDSSSS.
I also wonder what they're doing with Sasuke and Kasuga (and Kotaro on the side). I think making their rivalry less relevant in 3 was not a good choice and probably made for more gay potential. I think they were cute and again, they had good moments together and it worked well. Much better than Sasuke VS Kojuro IMO.

Now, I wonder how Sanada Den is like at this point. At least they seem to have understood there is only one true rival for Masamune.

Yoshitsugu is so similar sometimes, it's impressive, and while Motochika might be different, it's just good on its own right.

Heck I"d say Kojuro sounds much better in English. Manlier and more rough, like he should be. And Yukimura's english voice actor gives a better delivery, more somber, like it's implied how he feels during the story. SB3's JP dub of Yukimura is too hyperactive IMO, weird considering he sounded much calmer and cute in 2.

My man. I thought I was the only one thinking that the change of the historical character designer was one huge mistake. I'd still say the game is worth buying even if only for the tweaked gameplay of the old characters + the return of some of the ps2 ones, I've spent hours just curbstomping people with Hideyoshi and Hanbei tag team.
I could answer your other questions on the stories but I don't know if you want them spoilered. I'll say that I loved Ieyasu's story on SB4 and that Keiji fleshes out his relationship with Magoichi more, and it's not that one sided.

No reason for buying SB4 over Sumeragi at this point, Sumeragi comes with except a couple of dlc costumes, Yep Hanbei it's back and it's as homo as we remember him. Between him, Hideyoshi, Mitsunari and Yoshitsugu the Toyotomi army is drama central, Hanbei's story is a tearjerker.

Some of the are too gimmicky, enough to be a chore after a couple of times. There are some memorable one like intrusions on Matsunaga/Hideyoshi, Ieyasu/Hideyoshi plus the returning of Kawanakajima and the obvious Masamune/Yukimura. I'm still mad the didn't put a Sekigahara intrusions and the two Sekigahara are weak compared to the SB3U ones.

Keiji follows Magoichi around in it's normal ending plus the old Hideyoshi stuff about killing Nene, the drama ending is really interesting since he decides to takes pity on Ashikaga and decides to become the friend he wants so bad, Magoichi supports Keiji's decision and helps him showing she actually cares.

Ieyasu still does his thing, the point is this time it isn't the main focus of the game. The drama route is really something since when he finally makes his mind up on killing Hideyoshi he witnesses Matsunaga kamikaze killing Hideyoshi after a battle before he could do anything. Ieyasu realizes Mitsunari couldn't possibly accept that since he would have no one to lash is anger on so when confronted by him he tells Mitsunari it was him who killed Hideyoshi, this makes Mitsunari go full SB3 but gives him a purpose to live on in killing Ieyasu.

Later on Nobunaga gets killed by Mitsuhide but after passing away he awakens in a burning Honnouji where he finds another himself and Mitsuhide fighting and kills them both. Okay, so Liu Yu has his starting officers, all of Yuan Shao's forces, Liu Bei's starting forces, Tao Qian's forces, Gongsun Zan's forces minus Gongsun Zan, Gongsun Xu and Gongsun Fan, Kong Rong and Huangfu Song.

Cao Cao has declared for Liu Yu as well but his forces are still separate so who knows really. He acts as a buffer to Yuan Shu's territory to the South.

The first stage was actually pretty well done in setting up how fucked you were initially.
From the arbalests that were the only things that could harm the hydra but still only did pitiful damage before they're all destroyed, to the sheer amount of demons, to your own npc officers being killed off one by one, to Kiyomori restarting every time you manage to kill him.
All ending with only the three survivors left being rescued and then the game begins proper.

I REALLY wish KT would fix/change event triggering in NA/RoTK. I've only ever started on Nobunaga's Birth, but I decided to try Viper of Mino as Kazumasu which is only 2 years after Nobunaga's birth and I've encountered like 6 new events I've never seen in just the span of 1 year. At this point it's pretty much start at a date right before the event you want to happen, as after like 10 years in-game you will no longer get any events since the requirements are extremely specific and the AI likes to fuck the requirements up. I'm trying to build up my domain as much as possible to prevent Oda from falling long enough for young master Nobunaga to take over and fuck shit up. If Oda does fall I'll probably pretend to be a loyal officer of Imagawa while looking for an opportune time to rebel and form my own clan.

After having been building up my domain for quite a few months, I was called to lead my troops to help in the deadlock at Narumi. My 2k were instrumental to breaking the enemy defenses and then the offensive continued and took Kiyosu as well. For my bravery and leadership at Kiyosu and Narumi I was promoted to Infantry Leader, so I'm very close to being made chamberlain of a castle which is one step below full lordship. If Katsuie can hold Narumi from the Imagawa counter-attack I feel that Oda will hold together until Nobunaga takes over.

I just started the Chibi scenario in DW8E on Chaos.

Is DW8E Chaos supposed to be impossible at the start, unless you spend bonus points to power up your character?

It feels like the only viable strategy is to spam diplomatic goals (alliance, supply request, invite) until you reach a decent level, hope your ruler gives you a Prefect position, then advance from there. Combat is bollocks prior to that.

Oda looks fucked lads. Imagawa is sieging our main castle and they outmumber us 2-1. I've been amaging to hold the southern gate and killed over a thousand men due to great ranged skill, but there just seems to be too many along with the northern gate being breached which compromises my position. not pictured is the 4k fresh enemy troops marching towards the castle.
