what I'm trying to say is that bastions story doesn't mesh with the gameplay. Yes lore and gameplay are two separate things, but there has to be a reason (besides filling a gameplay niche) for a character to be in the game. With most of the characters you can explain why they are involved in a sentence or two, but for a few heroes the characters themselves don't really fit the gameplay.

Here's what I think: I think Mahatma Gandhi made enough of an impact on the enirety of humanity that if he never existed, the original inspiration behind Zenyatta's creation would probably be nonexistent, as would Zen. Its hard to view this character, a semi-spiritual leader of an oppressed minority, as even being extant had Gandhi not inspired it. Even the language zen uses suggests this: his greetings says "peace and blessings," he goes on and on on numbai how great it is humans and omnics get along, and in case you didnt notice theres kind of an undertone that humans and omnics suffer from something like racial friction, and theres even canon material that shows omnics being oppressed and all that. So clearly omnic civil rights are an issue, i wouldnt say that puts zen far off from being at least concerned with civil rights.

Whatever. The point im trying to make is that i understand that the multiplayer mode isnt canon, and i can forgive bastion because at least he USED to be a soldier or whatever, but i cant fathom why blizz made this character so painstakingly characterized by a tone of pacifism and nonviolence and then threw him in the multiplayer. And i understand theres some canon material that says in one sentence that he fights or whatever, but its not really the type of thing it takes one sentence to just explain away.
