Did you know that Molten Core was not tuned for preraid bis, consumables and people actually using optimised specs? It was actually assumed it'll be 40 people with roughly all buffs they can have on their side and that they will have some gear on. On Rag, required dps to kill him before sons is literally 200 per dps, not counting tanks.
BWL was lenient as fuck in this regard too.
First raid that actually pushed people's shit in when it comes to carrying dead weight in the 40man group was AQ40, and it was also quite forgiving.

It technically does work but Shock has quite a long CD so you're really more of a defensive spell damage hybrid.

With full T2 you get some nice +spell damage, coupled with a good 2 hander you have a nice balance with on demand ranged burst, melee offensive capability and really solid survivabiltiy/utility. It gets better once aq/nax come out but before that you go T2 or try to get marshals set and go Ret/Reck.

I get that most of you guys are private server newfags and have only played retail WoW for most of your time in WoW, but the reality is that every server known to man has shit the bed at one point or another. Elysium won't last more than a year or two. It will be plagued by bugs, crashes, hackers, botters, and chinks for the short time it is up.

I've leveled from zero to hero literally hundreds of times in the last 12 years. I have no interest in spending hundreds of hours doing it again on a server that is so poorly ran.

I'm having trouble deciding what profession to take alongside mining. I'm a paladin, and I want to try my hand at tanking, once I'm confident in my build. I know paladin isn't really the most optimal choice for tanking, but I want to give it a good try.

Should I go blacksmithing or engineering? I'm not really sure how useful blacksmithing is, since a lot of quest rewards seem like they're going to straight-up outclass the stuff I could craft, even at higher levels I guess I could always be helpful and craft stuff for guild mates leveling, though, or even sell my crafts. Engineering could be a source of explosives I could use for a pulling option, since paladins don't have the ability to train to use ranged weapons, my spell ranges aren't probably going to cut it.

Could I get some advice on which is probably a more useful option in the short/long run?

pls no bully, I'm not going in thinking I'm going to tank raids, I just want to do something aside from healing, and being DPS is kinda boring.

Definitely don't roll on Hellground expecting it to be flawless. It has a ton of issues that you'll be constantly dealing with. A lot of it is LoS or pathing related, as that stuff hasn't really been touched in 2-3 years and private servers were a lot worse at it back then.
