I'm wondering that myself. It's kinda like how Monaca decided to give up on Hope and Despair and not think of anything and it was called "another kind of despair". Saihara's desire to "change the world" can be seen as another form of hope, so I think the most logical route would be telling the difference between false hope meant just to be there to fight despair, and true hope that actually serves a purpose.

Then again, I'm not Kodaka so I can't really explain anything that's on his mind. For all we know, we got more bullshit on the way.

Maybe for a protagonist that's SHSL Lawyer or Debater, to contrast the previous protagonists and to match his title, could go from being emotionless and heartless. In a way that whenever there's a murder, he just gathers evidence, formulate his argument, goes into the trial, and immediately leaves without much of a thought to both the murderer and the victim. He just thinks, "I don't need to be friendly. It's enough that it's because of me that we're all still alive."

Throughout the course of the game as he becomes closer to whoever's left, he realizes that they're all human, and have their own backgrounds and stories, and the murderers also had their reasons and were forced to act upon it to survive. In the final trial, he's going to defeat the mastermind by saying that.

The first part sounds way too edgy, if they're just a complete "tch, nothin personal..." type character at the beginning then less people would want to keep playing long enough for their character to develop. Plus that sort of personality doesn't really seem like it would fit with FTEs, since most characters would be less willing to open up to someone who treats the deaths like nothing.

It was just a distasteful reality show and that's what made the last episode so heart crushing. You had hundreds of people voting on the screen for two options where your last friends WOULD DIE ANYWAY and they were actually rooting for it. I felt terrible for them and that's what made it great for me.

There is one more point - the game would not be over even if they'd be saved. They would just pick more random people willing to kill and be brainwashed FOR THE LULZ and restart it all over again. Surviving as anything but the last two man means being sent to the next killing game (like Rantarou was)

Also, Kiibo was a new feature, they were testing him.

What would you guys thinking about a Danganronpa in which your choices actually affect who the survivors are?

For example, Character A and Character B are in the red for Chapter 2. If you hang out with Character A, Character B will be killed. If you go to Character B, it will be Character A who's killed. Go up to Character C? Randomized choice between A and B. If RNG isn't kind to you, both of them could wind up dead.

That would probably be a pain in the ass to make though, wouldn't it? It would drastically lessen the amount of voiced lines and disallow CGs.

I'm not sure if it's confirmed information but Amami was supposedly allowed to have the tapes because it's a privilege he got for surviving twice before. If that information's not true, Shirogane dealt with him. It's arguably only her who fucked that murder up though.

The detective, at that time, was too much of a wimp to have been considered a serious threat. For Christ's sake, he fucking cowered when everyone started pointing fingers at him. He needed half of the entire group defending him in a scrum debate. TDR must have been dying laughing at him that time. Meanwhile Kaede actually set up a plan that, if not for Amami ruining it, would have probably caught the mastermind. If she'd been allowed to live, it wouldn't be far fetched to say the game would have ended at Chapter 3 or 4. She was too smart and actually did something about the killing game, right at the start. She needed to go.

I have no defense for the other failures though. They fucked up. A lot.

The reason Kaede became so popular is because they deliberately made her a charismatic individual who was sympathetic with others and actively tried to make things better.
