Shirou is OOC by being both a fair bit of an edgelord while also being annoyingly self-aware of harem genre tropes, there are constant info dumps that are literally tens of thousands of words long, the author doesn't know the lore as well as he thinks he does, and they're all Fate×Harem Comedy crossovers where the Harem Comedy characters exist primarily for Shirou to dump exposition on and to fall in love with or fight him.

I think the first thread about him got to like 200~ pages long before being locked and deleted, and the next few should still be up and on there if you go looking. Well if you actually want an answer, the only appropriate one would be in imitation of Gabriel's style: a fucking wall of text.

Hill of Swords was a crossover between Familiar of Zero and F/SN, with the main conceit of Louise (a newbie magician) summoning Shirou as her familiar at the beginning instead of the series's actual MC. The whole idea was to try and "rescue" FoZ because it's somewhat well known as an actually kinda interesting setting that got utterly wasted for old school harem shenanigans. This was mostly accomplished via writing Shirou ridiculously out of character so he could "teach" a good chunk of the cast how to get their heads out of their asses. You could say he's being written like he's becoming EMIYA, but really he was just written as a stereotypical badass protag with a completely ridiculous powerset.

Not that the story would ever acknowledge that last bit: literally every time the story decided to go over his powers (and it fucking loved infodumping that kinda shit) there was always, always, ALWAYS a "I know this sounds really powerful but it's actually really bad for reasons X, Y, and Z that will never come up in story" slapped on at the end because writers are terrified of the words "Mary Sue". And I mention this because pretty every serious attempt at Fate fanfiction since has followed the trend, and it's really fucking silly every time.

Right, so Hill of Swords. It was pretty dumb, but it was also pretty fun. If you could get over Shirou being nothing like his actual characterization, there were some legitimately cool bits and funny jokes. There's a reason it set off a tsunami of imitators, and incidentally there are probably more crossovers where Louise summons someone different than there are of regular FoZ stories.

After Hill of Swords came In Flight, a crossover between Sekirei and F/SN. This time the idea was that Shirou was secretly the MC of Sekirei, he just never knew because of that whole Fuyuki fire thing wiping his memories of his past life. It was a lot longer, a lot dumber, and had a lot more sex jokes but the most important thing about it was a new trend it set off: pages upon pages of text talking about Shirou's mindset. Hill of Swords had this too, but it didn't have nearly as many characters wasting paragraphs talking about how Shirou is "distorted" and how it's such a shame and how he doesn't appreciate what he has because of it and how all these girls need to try and reach him and fucking whatever. It's sorta like the "he's not REALLY overpowered, I swear!" thing, only applied to the "he's not REALLY lucky he has a harem, I swear!". I recall a bit where Shirou monologues about how actually that 3P he had with Saber and Rin wasn't sexy at all, nope.

Hill of Swords and In Flight had a variety of issues (poor understanding of F/SN lore/characterization, really forced harem hijinks, a writing style that could best be described as "more words = better!", a shameless fondness for sex jokes and an obsession with "badasses"), but for all of their faults they at least had their general plots mapped out and finished in a... reasonable amount of chapters.

The same could not be said for almost every story that has been inspired since. Nowadays in F/SN fanfiction you see the same formula: "analyze" Shirou's mindset (by having him and others exposit at length of how weird he is because Show Don't Tell is for pussies), dump a harem on him (because it's an easy way to skip proper characterization), have him become ridiculously overpowered ("but not really, I swear!"), dump a gallon full of Fate/Zero style edge on everything (because it's totally cooler that way), use 50 paragraphs when only 2 were really necessary, and most annoyingly never actually end.
