Enhancement in melee group is the #2 raid DPS spec in the game (#1 being the first shadow priest) and if you run a dedicated hunter group or are an absolute madman running two melee groups, you'll definitely want to take a second. Their personal DPS is also quite respectable (middle of the pack), not that it's the metric you should be looking at.

As far as 5-mans go, enhancement is a bit iffy. If you were running a melee-stacked group they'll again be the greatest party DPS contributors just like in raid melee group but in low-end gear you might want crowd control which melee specs tend not to offer so, while it's not the worst spec (nothing's stopping you from putting down wrath of air totem and giving lust to mages and locks: enha in caster party is worth more than a rogue or warrior for example would be), you don't get full mileage out of the spec and the bursty nature of windfury is a bit annoying when mobs die quickly and gracetime required to be 100% safe from overaggro is quite significant in relation to combat length (at least when warrior tanks are concerned, with ferals and pallies it's less of an issue).

I think the problem is modern game design principles are focused on making things "measurably fun" (see RIOT philosophies), which ironically is NOT the appeal of MMOS.

It was always my view that what makes MMOs fun is socializing, and what happens in the game is of relatively minor importance. But today they are always trying to streamline everything and put convenience everywhere. It really makes it harder to build communities that way.

Another big appeal of MMOs is slowly progressing. Overcoming hardship is a huge rewarding feeling in the end. And you lose that when everything is fun and easy.

Instant gratification is really hurting video games in general.

TBC PvP is fun because it was much slower than every other expansion. It kind of led to real drawn out fights where every action mattered. But it was based on 2s arena which is garbage and 90% of matches were resto druids paired with sl/sl warlocks/warriors or rogues paired with priests. Healer/DPS vs Healer/DPS could easily take 45m where the faggot druids were travel forming away to drink.

The overall nature of classes is the best in TBC. Classes are upgraded versions of vanilla ones, it has the same kind of world PvP hotspots at max level (Tyr's Hand <-> Skettis), it's more balanced than classic yet classes are actually more unique than before or since, the pace of PvP is better without people getting globalled and conversely, it doesn't turn to the cooldown-trading style of game as seen in WotLK+ and resources are more finite.

WotLK is better for "e-sports" due to better arena balance at high level and TBC had a few annoying comps popular in 2s (ie. endless matches because you can't really stop people from drinking in that kind of environment, this of course can happen in other expansions but those situations were fairly common) but from where I stand, that's not a consideration for most players.

Why didn't they just integrate the resilience mechanic into the spell resist mechanic?

Those two mechanics almost never cross each other betwen pvp and pve, so it would've been an elegant solution.

Everyone complains how most of T2 is terrible for PvE, but I suspect that T2 was deliberately designed for PvP. Just look at all that spell resist. It did the same thing resilience does, but in a more elegant manner that interacted with the rest of the game mechanics.

Really, if you keep it to Tier 2, vanilla pvp is decently balanced.

In AQ it starts showing cracks, and by Naxx it just completely falls apart.

A game mechanic can be neutralized not only by removal, but also with the introduction of a new mechanic that obsoletes it.
Warlocks were a victim of heavy handed, unsubtle design. In BC, blizzard added flat stat bonus talent that were not only boring, but also did not interact at all with other talents in the same tree.
My two most hated talents are examples of it: demonic sacrifice and Shadow And Flame.

Shadow And Flame is the penultimate talent in a PvP tree that is explicitly PvE in nature. It only affects Incinerate and Shadow Bolt, filler nuke spells and no other spell in the destro tree.

Soul Fire is obsolete since with S&F Shadowbolt hits for approx the same for half the cast time. This also makes pyroclasm useless, which was an AMAZING talent in vanilla.
Searing pain. This spell was triple penetrated by S&F, resilience and Incinerate.
Hey, there was already a fast casting fire damage spell in the warlock spellbook, why not improve or otherwise utilize it instead of adding a completely new spell for no reason? Warlocks past vanilla have always suffered from additions of new spells that fill the same niche and replace older spells that could have been fixed and improved instead. Like Chaos Bolt replacing Soul Fire in wotlk.

Shadow Bolt. One of the uniquely fun things about vanilla destro warlock was the fact that you used both shadow and fire schools in equal capacity.
Improved Shadow Bolt is obsoleted as a result, with no alternative in the same tier. Cataclysm (the talent) lol.
Which, IN TURN greatly reduces the effectiveness of Shadowburn, since the main destruction filler spell DOES NOT inflict ISB any more.
And also reduces synergy between warlocks of different specs and spriests. Destro warlocks are completely isolated from class synargy, aside from a parasitic relationship with fire mages.
Rain of Fire and Hellfire are made redundant by SoC and Shadowfury.

Arms is optimal if you have a certain amount of physical DPS (which doesn't take much, one melee group and a few hunters is roughly the break-even point and most raids have that much). Fury is a more difficult matter. It's actually one of the top DPS with high-end gear but it's difficult to fit one into the raid comp. You "need" all of three tanking classes. Arms is a high-tier PvP spec.

In that sense affliction played to the spec archetype is more viable (due to increased debuff limit and new DoT), demo is more viable and there's a new fire destro playstyle.

Of course, because players started actually paying attention to theorycrafting and bosses started demanding higher output, in practise it's affliction in the beginning and shadow destro when it outscales affliction, but that's not in any way different from vanilla played proper. I'm going with just my memory but if I recall correctly, each class (warrior/mage/rogue) had a dozen or so "souls" (equivalent of WoW specializations) and they could pick three. In addition, it had around 6 multispec slots.

A major problem with the game was weightless combat (animations/sounds/netcode etc) and that is a contributor in this and not just the talent system itself, but the game generally lacked any abilities that are fun to use no matter the spec. For example, you might get three "basic attacks", one from each soul and each with their own minor (de)buff and you'd just use all of them in sequence (automatized by the macro system).

Besides overload of dull abilities (and subsequent macro spam feel of combat), I also really hated how you could have spec for all occasions. I remember I had min/maxed single target tanking spec, AoE-tanking spec, self-healing spec, magic damage tanking spec and probably other specialized specs. The thing is, at that point you can be anything at press of a button so you don't exactly have specializations any longer. WoW has generally suffered from being able to take all core talents with little to no loose points left over, thus leaving very little room to encounter-specific alterations, but the multispec system defeats the point of freedom. If Rift had had similar ability to make actually specialized builds AND difficult respecialization process, you'd have to stick with one spec for the majority of the game and that would give your build and character an identity, but multispec system threw this possibility out of the window. Never mind that abilities didn't have identity because of animations and such like, the specializations didn't have it either for this reason.

Ultimately, I think the system was worse than WoW talents because in WoW you at least have identity to abilities/classes/specs cool talents and abilities at the end of the trees/at high levels. Rift didn't have any of that.

2x is pretty good. It's how it was on the old hellground and it worked fine. 3-5 days /played not too fast not too slow. You can still immerse yourself in the leveling process but it never gets too tedious. I think I would prefer 1x 60-70 because it's BC and the zones would stay relevant longer but it's not a big deal

The only real issue I had with hellground when leveling was the weapon skills were way too fucking slow to level. So when you play a melee you basically need to stick to one weapon type.

Also if you're worried about the leveling speed, I'm sure they'll have RaF available so just team up with someone from the thread and it'll go considerably quick.
