This one is pretty nice for a free application. You have to sign up but it's really easy to use. Pic related was made with Inkarnate. It's not the best thing ever but it comes out alright for what's basically a child's toy in terms of the learning curve and ability needed.

The best one overall is Photoshop though, honestly. I love making maps but the best way to make a good looking one is to simply draw them yourself. If you google a bit you can find "brushes" which basically let you plop down terrain features like mountains and stuff, which makes it easier for the less artistically inclined like me.

They're similar enough that it wouldn't surprise me if Rance inspired Kazuma. Kazuma's not nearly as ambitious or heroic, but they are otherwise similar in personality in retrospect. Kazuma's greatest stat is Luck too, and you could argue the same goes for Rance.

But there aren't really any references to the Rance games otherwise, so it could just be a coincidence.

My grasp of Chinese seems like it is no better than yours. Then there's the disaster of Orochi to contend with, making me hope greatly for catching a generic Dungeon Scout ninja, to ease repeat attempts to reach him, if that's even possible.
