I think what players want is a good, immediate but also deep fighting game.

SFV is not good and deep but it's one of the most immediate to learn fighting games out.

GGXrd is (considered) good and deep but it's not immediate at all, even if by nature, mechanics are too convoluted and characters too much exaggerated.

So, if you put SF players to try GGXrd they'll not like it because it's not very immediate at all and if you put GG players to try SFV they'll not like it because it's ass, too dull and uninteresting.

The difference is that more people will, at least, try the former while the latter will still live in its niche.

Strongly believe the overall design and rereleases are the major factors as why not many people play GG. A lot of the characters look like Megatokyo rejects with more belts who don't shutup and the UI is a weak attempt at being metal. It's just annoying to look and listen to to the average person who isn't really into anime shows.
