What was supposed to be going on in this cutscene? I know its in the bar in the cosplay studio in chapter 4 but I never heard an explanation for what is going on between her and Saihara during the scene.

So, what would’ve happened if Kaede had remained the protagonist? We would have gotten exactly the “mutual killing game” we had so eagerly anticipated with NDRV3′s release…and thus the Mastermind would ALSO have gotten what SHE wanted, because she AND WE THE AUDIENCE wanted our dramatic “solve the mutual killing game” plot.

Now, what happens in chapter 1? Our heroic, confident, sweet-hearted leader protagonist gets killed off, and we’re angry. We’re getting that bland Shuuichi instead? What kind of mutual killing game could HE solve? Give us back Kaede!

So, first thing Shuuichi does as the protagonist? Make Us, The Audience, Angry Because He Robs Us Of The Story We Wanted.

Fast-forward to chapter 6′s trial. What does Shuuichi do? He stops playing along, failing a couple of mini-games. And in the game itself, the audience gets mad and outright HACKS INTO Kiibo to try to force Shuuichi to continue, which makes Kiibo the final Talk Action Battle. This mirrors how angry WE are that Shuuichi refuses to complete his heroic role. How DARE he not continue?! How DARE he not complete the murderous game we all wanted!

Why it’s no wonder that Kaede was killed off to make room for Shuuichi–even all the way back in chapter 1, Shuuichi did exactly what he needed to do to Ruin Our Mutual Killing Game–he robbed us of what we wanted and made us mad.

You know, I was telling everyone not to give up on NDRV3 in an earlier post, but I was wrong yet again. We actually WERE supposed to think the plot of this game was awful! We were supposed to get mad and quit and be done with the entire franchise! And when we did, the bloodshed would stop and the Mastermind would be robbed of what she wanted.

Ironically, Shuuichi actually DID make NDRV3 suck–which is exactly what he NEEDED to do to truly stop the Mastermind’s mutual killing game.

No, what was really needed was a completely unfitting protagonist, who would refuse to play the game entirely and ruin it.

And ruin it so badly, the audience would get fed up and go berserk, thus causing Kiibo to go berserk because the audience had hacked into him.

And what does Kiibo do when he goes berserk? He destroys the prison, thus ruining any chance of making another season and thus having another set of teenagers being killed.

So I too am sore that Kaede was killed off so early, as I myself liked Kaede better than Shuuichi, but Kaede couldn’t have caused the prison to be destroyed as her priority was getting her friends out alive. Shuuichi’s priority was making the game stop so murder couldn’t happen to anyone else in a future season.

To paraphrase The Dark Knight, Shuuichi isn’t the hero we deserved, but he is the hero we needed.

I saw Kazutaka Kodaka at a Hot Topic in Shinjuku yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for spoilers or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”

I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “Killing? Killing? Killing?” and calling me a monster in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my browsing, and I heard him mutter about television as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like sixteen suicidal teenagers in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, those characters matter.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the teens and started asking it who it was multiple times, he stopped her and told her to forget that because “only fiction lasts forever,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even know what he meant. After she talked to each kid and put them in zanier outfits and started to say that their new personas were mere artifice since they were constructs designed by executives for mass market appeal, he kept interrupting her by yelling about meta fiction really loudly.

In the end he set fire to the franchise and left with most of them dead.

Yes, exactly the people who liked the design. The characters had generated art and fans simply based on their design. DR is no deep and complex series. It sells on attractiveness.

The only impressions on characters I've seen are japanese extremely mad about Kaede and Amami being wasted. I haven't seen much else, so who knows how the rest are received.

Just like with SDR2 nips will be interested in knowing what they were like before the brainwashing just like anons here, if they don't give up on the series. And I cannot see this surpassing SDR2 sales which weren't that great on opening week to be honest.
