So the propellers are cool I guess, but planes still suck dick, because plane suck dick in Robocucks no matter what you do.
You need to stack like 12 wings just to fly decently, and you'll still be shot down by some faggot across the map pointing in your general direction with a flak gun that just rips you in half.
And then the long homing missiles that almost never miss, and the rail guns, and the unlimited range machine guns, etc.
Compound blocks in spengieronis when
So this keeps happening to me, I start the game and go to jump to the roof but my jetpack is turned off and I fall. Last time I ran back to base and got in my small vessel and flew up to it, but it's still on the roof. I can't build up to it, too far from base and no supplies to start a new one. No motorcycle either. I have to run back to base and build a new flying vessel, don't I? Fuck.
>>165411202
Just jump into the air and build a block under you. Do that until you reach your ship, and either get inside it, or just hit "Y" up close to it to turn the power off so it falls down.

Can't build anything, too far from base. You have to look at the base and hold N to associate the block you want to lay with the base.

>can they swim
>how do their bases/lairs work? Do they expand over time?
>how are lairs created? Do they spawn out of nowhere or does a roaming biter have to make one?
>do they generally get stronger over time and if so what affects it?

Is there a decent fucking military/combat-oriented /egg/ game that is multiplayer? Space Engineers is too limited in weapon selection (block sizes are too big to make proper weapons), FtD is barely MP and won't be soon anyway.
Is Empyrion any good for that? I just want to have 2 teams start on different places, gather resources, and murder eachother.
>>165444105
>can they swim
Nope.
>how do their bases/lairs work? Do they expand over time?
The spawners multiply over time, but there's a limit. You won't get infinitely expanding sponge bases.
>how are lairs created? Do they spawn out of nowhere or does a roaming biter have to make one?
There's a small chance that a group of them will move to a position not too close to other spawners or your base, and start a new base.
>do they generally get stronger over time and if so what affects it?
They do get stronger by time, but the amount of pollution speeds this up significantly.
>>165444626
It's hard to say. Sometimes they'll just go around the walls, sometimes they'll take a direct route and chew on the walls. It's best to make your wall completely encircle your base.
>>165449496
>They do get stronger by time, but the amount of pollution speeds this up significantly.
More specifically, the type of aliens spawned depend on the Evolution Factor. Higher Evolution Factor means more of the stronger aliens.
The Evolution Factor increases slowly over time, whenever pollution is emitted and when spawners are destroyed - it cannot be reduced in any way.
Pollution and dead spawners are always the two biggest contributors.

the original vision for robocraft is what you want
unfortunately robocraft is now a bastardized world of tanks clone, or wait it's not even that. what ever the fuck robocraft is now, it's no longer what it was meant to be.
Started playing my first Factorio run with bob's mod, I knew that it would be rough, but jesus, it's 2:30 in the morning and I still don't even have green science or any sort of chip production
I fear the people that play this with Angels ore refining.
On a side note though, because Bob's mod let's you change the angle of inserters, it turns out you can get around 1.5x efficiency out of literally any inserter for free by making them work at a right angle.
I don't even know. It just does that.
Furthermore, because you can make the inserters grab diagonally and because most buildings are 2x2 tiles or larger, I don't even have to set up some special system to do it, I just make two inserters cross over each other while placing into, or taking out of the building and they move shit at ridiculous speeds.
I am now looking into creating conveyor belt systems entirely of wooden chests and inserters, so far I'm already getting surprisingly good results.
>>165456242
I have optimized my shit some more and now I can move 12 items across 30 spaces in a second using only regular inserters placed at right angles.
I am curious to see whether or not I hit warp speeds with fast inserters

I had to leave my shit behind when I thought it would be a good idea to jetpack in to the shipyard. Ten or so deaths just trying to retrieve the backpack, then I fucked off to a lava planet and had my SV destroyed by drones while mining the green shit, couldn't repair so I had to spawn back on the starter planet, so I have to build another CV to get my first one back. Of course while I was gone, drones killed my base guns and were waiting for me, then during my bright idea to move my core, I didn't support it properly and it broke off and collapsed, and I had this fun moment where I thought since it was my last core, and my constructor wouldn't power up without it, I couldn't progress any more and the whole save was fucked. Then I realized you can make one with the emergency constructor with the mats out of the big one. I didn't even bother you guys either, pretty proud of myself.
>>165490196
>Nuclear reactor
>exploding
>>165490196
Well it makes sense to have small compact reactors in space, because water/turbines would be impractical.
But Factorio is a different story. Everything is needlessly complex, and that's a good thing in a game like that. It's really disappointing that they decided to simplify something like fucking nuclear reactors.
>>165491597

not a detonation of the reactor
by saying bullshit like reactors blowing up just fuels the anti nuclear cockdickery that has held the technology back for 40 fucking years
it was a STEAM explosion at a reactor facility, that is how it should be worded to not make life difficult for the poor sods that try to make them and have to deal with barely sapient cattle marching around with signs thinking every god damn thing with the word "nuclear" on it will turn a whole metropolis into hiroshima

This: >>165491913
>>165493028

>>165493028
I never implied the source of the explosion was the reaction chamber, stop playing dumb.
But the chamber was the source of the heat that caused the explosion, so it shouldn't be worded in any other way.
Besides, the cooling system surrounding the chamber is an integral part of the reactor as a whole. It blowing up would for every non-autist constitute "the reactor" blowing up.
>>165457140
While I'm not sure I've been playing with Bob's myself and as far as I can tell the rotational speed of the inserter's arm at the base remains constant, so in effect the "hand" is moving faster when it's farther from the base.
If this is the case it should be even faster to move items by only moving them one tile at a time at maximum distance from the inserter. Gonna test this out brb
Cleaned it up some.

>>165494295
Okay here is my testing setup. Each top chest is loaded with 1000 iron plates which will be moved to the bottom chests until one of them is full. From left to right:
0: Control, yellow belt at max capacity
1: Vanilla 180° inserters
2-4: 90° inserters like in >>165457140 setup
5: 18° inserters
6: 11° inserters
Hypothesis is that the limiting factor in inserter speed is the angle between pickup and destination, so 5 and 6 should be the fastest, 2-4 should be roughly the same speed and 1 should be slowest. Results to follow
>>165499539
0: 384
1: 104
2: 216
3: 224
4: 228
5: 1000
6: 292
So as expected 1 was slowest, 2, 3 and 4 about the same speed (combined they make half of >>165457140, with the result of 668) and 5 was by far the fastest.
6 being so much slower than 5 was unexpected. Maybe because the inserters need to contract and extend.
Going to try with fast inserters next
If I wanted to play Empyrion with you guys how would I go about doing that
Also I'm abandoning my base on Masperon, fuck yall niggas, where should I settle next
>>165500846
>If I wanted to play Empyrion with you guys how would I go about doing that

>>165501126
but what IS the secret /egg/ handshake
>>165501858
post your reptile as authentication
So here are 180°, 90° and 18° setups compared with regular and fast inserters. Results are as follows:
0: 152
1: 48
2: 148
3: 104
4: 284
5: 492
6: 1000
So fast inserters work, but the increase in speed is smaller with smaller angles.
180° setup with fast inserters was roughly 200% more efficient, 90° setup 150% and 18° only 100%
>>165502261

After finally deciding to right-click while building and seeing the plethora of options available to me I'm trying to go for a base look that's not just "blocky military-industrial fortress". What do you think?
>>165490196
The most fun reactors imo were in minecraft tekkit of all things. IIrc you built a reactor core and had to either keep it submerged in water and fed with a supply of ice or they made huge-ass explosions. I believe it had a radiation mechanic which killed you without thick shielding too. One thing that kept it interesting was breeding reactors and recycling nuclear material.
It's minecraft and the reactor explosion aren't realistic but it was great fun. If the ice supply wasn't perfect the reactor might start boiling off the water and melting it's enclosure, getting so hot and radioactive the player can't get close enough to remove some rods then kaboom.
Reactors would be good in FTD since it's already got steam turbines and RTGs
>>165503778
mess around with textures, wood floros are comfy
>>165502519
Could you try lane 4 from the first experiment, but with fast inserters? Just for my curiosity?
>>165502519
Final batch of tests. This time with two approaches for a maximum speed system. First is identical in every tile, with all inserters moving plates one tile downwards, minimizing inserter angle
The second one has alternating setups that move the plates either 2 or 4 tiles at once, with pickup and destination always the same distance away from the inserter base, so no extending should be necessary during operation
Results are:
0: 0
1: 28
2: 632
3: 1000
Setup 3 was so fast the belt didn't even have time to fill up before 1000 plates had been transferred, and the clear difference to setup 2 (even when using less inserters and boxes) shows that extending should be eliminated in inserter operations if maximum efficiency is desired.
So in conclusion setting the inserter pickup and destination tiles as far away from the base as possible greatly increases efficiency, as long as they are at or almost at the same distance.
>>165499539
>>165500727
>>165502519
>>165505602
Oh shit, went to sleep and woke up to some-one testing my shit, today is a good day
Thanks anon
I guess it would make sense that the smaller the angle, the faster the inserter, I'll have to remember that for any inserter-fuckery in future
>>165504956
Here you go. also did max distance inserters in other angles.
0: 704
1: 528
2: 992
3: 1000
4: 876
5: 700
6: 536
So once again the smaller the angle the faster the transfer. Incidentally both of the 90° setups are about as fast (992 and 1000) as well as the 180° setups (528 and 536). The turning speed isn't dependent on inserter length, so in sharper angles the actual path an item takes ends up closer to a straight line (see blue lines in pic).
>>165507859
I'm personally going to start making my inserters as long as possible for general purpose stuff as well, since you get a hefty increase in speed without using extra materials and power. Will need to re-design basically everything

You'll get to a point where you're moving things via trains and max stack inserters, or using drones, but it'll take a good long while to get there. In Spengies does it matter if I have a small connector port item connected to a large one? Like if I have a small conveyor tube attached to a medium cargo block on my miner, is it going to let ore through the conveyor tube to wherever I want it to go? Or is it strictly large goes with large and small goes with small?
I wanted to set up 9 ejectors on the back of my miner's cargo container to dump ore out the back into a large grid collector block at my base, but they don't seem to be working. It worked with a connector, but the connector seems to dump the same amount as an ejector, and I wanted to speed it up. So I'm wondering if the connector worked because it has the same size connection point as the cargo container block.

>how do I transferred ore quickly
Use a large connector on your miner (which I assume is a small ship).
Lock with another connector on the base - said connector should of course be linked up with the base's conveyor system.
What'll happen then is that you can instantly transfer any amount of cargo between the miner and your base.
Any refineries in the conveyor system will automatically pull enough ore to fill their own inventories - the rest you can transfer via ship inventory.

There was a guy on /a/ back then who never left his mother's basement and loved watching highjacked cameras. He would watch cameras all over the world. I noticed him when he did a little play where streamed himself speaking anime tropes over a Japanese cafe's security system and then again and he accidentally discovered a fire in Japan and asked for help figuring out what number to call to report it to the local fire department.
I started following him on IRC. He had a huge list of open and hijacked cameras he had discovered all over the world, including tons of train and subway stations in Russia and Japan.
After the first Fukushima incident he took over the cameras in a train station nearby, and by spinning them around and pointing them over a nearby building the top of the plant could be seen. He posted information on how to log into the cameras on IRC and a small number of people, around 50 or so, had access. It was kind of neat because we could watch all the changes to the site and then see just how long it took the people doing 'live coverage' to report it.
It was pretty boring 99% of the time, but you got to admire the guy for finding unsecured cameras right by the disaster.

There's a bunch of different ways to do it. You can even google search for cameras if you look up the strings. He used all kinds of different methods to look for cameras, with his primary goal to collect train stations around the world.
The guy liked trains and anime and did nothing else with his time but find cameras and make lists of the ones he liked to watch.
He had the penguin exhibit at the Tokyo Zoo's camera. He would log into it at night and move the camera around. The clump of penguins would follow it with their eyes, and it was super creepy with the night vision.

Go for biology and then specialize in neurology, find how the brain works, as in, how it works exactly, not a approximation, with every possible effect taken into account.
Then ask someone that specialized into... Something else to make a artificial brain that mimic the one you've studied (and any one you give as a model, doesn't matter whose brain is) exactly, complete with perfect simulation of input and outputs (sight, tact, smell, hearing, etc), pretty much you need to have it behave the same exact way as your brain, same stimuli, same reaction, running in real time.
Then you need to have yet another guy create a direct interface so that you are simultaneously experiencing both brains at once (ie: you as in you the conscience in the flesh is existing in both "brains", you don't want a you in the flesh and a you in the artificial brain), then you should be able to kill off the fleshy part, since both brains were joined during that time you never actually died (if instead you were to make a scan of yourself, load it into a artificial brain and then off yourself you've fucked up and just ended up dying and having a copy running around)

normal fins would either
>always be out (fins on top of an arrow is a really really shitty idea)
>1 degrees of freedom (DOF) deployment, stowed in cutouts in the side of the rocket (loss of internal volume and strength of the cylinder needing reinforcing =+weight)
> multiple DOF deploy to avoid cutouts, but would be complicated and very risky. A lot of deployment systems on spacecraft fail so you want to avoid this.
weight

You are still here. Your perception has not ceased. You don't 'die' when you sleep. You're not a copy of your previous consciousness, it's the same one. Since they are both running at the same time (and on the same "hardware" of human brain+computer brain) then you should have full continuity (ie: no "breaks").
I'd say to first use and test it as a pure man-machine interface (being able to directly interface with a Von Neumann architecture might be pretty interesting, a whole new section of the brain dedicated to do tedious calculations and with perfect memory recall), then branch it out as a further integration (ie: having a "list" of keywords/"key-feelings", like when you are thinking about where you left the car keys but you can't quite make out the exact spot, for documents you have and being able to recall them instantly), then simulation/telepresence (is like i'm in two places at once!) and then full switching

Since nobody has ever done such a procedure i'm following the most logical line of tought.
Example: you have 2 different PCs (a alienware shitbox and a experimental i'm cumming buckets state of art supercomputer) and a OS that has a feature that allows it to near seamlessly network with other PCs to the point the network's computing capabilities are almost a exact sum of all it's parts, most importantly, it can "stream" itself to other computers so you don't even have to install it on all of them.
You load the OS on the shitbox, connect to cumbuckets, OS is streaming from shitbox to cumbuckets, copy OS to cumbuckets, both have a copy of OS, disconnect, turn off shitbox.
Result: shitbox is dead, a copy that has already diverged from the original (since your slow, fat, human fingers took a whole 2 seconds to click the "off" button) lives in cumbuckets
Alternatively
Load OS on shitbox, connect to cumbuckets, shitbox is streaming the OS, copy OS to cumbuckets, delete OS from shitbox, cumbuckets is streaming the OS, disconnect, turn off shitbox
In this one the OS never "diverges" since when you disconnect the shitbox turns braindead.
Tl;dr: first one is you making a clone and the clone then kills you, in the other you, metaphorically speaking, gain an arm then lose an arm.

I've finished my trans-ocean railroad.
I haven't killed off the nearby nest. I've inserted Efficiency Modules into all of the Pumpjacks and the Assembling Machine to greatly reduce the amount of pollution. It's also entirely powered by solar power and accumulators.
Finally, I've only taken over half of the compound as that produces enough oil for me.
The only attacks I've been receiving are biters that stray a little too close, not proper attacks (yet?). The pollution seems to have come to a rest just before all of the nearby compounds so I'm satisfied for now.
Riding the train across the ocean at night is really relaxing.
Also one of the radars I placed down hours ago paid off and revealed an island with a bunch of oil on it. Guess I know where my next expansion will be.
Recommended mods for Spengies? In particular I'm looking for new parts, like weapons or other useful equipment or machinery, but anything else that's really cool, or handy would also be appreciated. Also cosmetic stuff, like decorative things for sprucing up a ship/base would be cool, but is low priority for now.
I'm on the lookout as well for something to make assault rifles less of a bullet hose. Kinda stupid how you can just fire forever until your ammo runs out without having to reload. Other hand-held weapons would be good too, but most of the ones I've seen look pretty lame.

Also, I know I will sound like a massive scrub, but I'm a total sucker for the arcady space flight ala Elite where you are a plane in space but you can still do 180-ies when you press a space-magic button. Will we ever see anything like that in REM or are ye full Newtonian purists?

Yep. But you can just add enough thrusters to get the same effect, and there's gonna be some flight assists soon, which will allow players to fly around in a more arcady sort of deal with the same physics. Think traction control. We also have different camera modes for different tastes. Three in total. The old one, the one you just saw and this one, which is more like starmade.

My man, those ships are armored with 200mm RHA all around. They're going to be fucking floaty.also, the pid tuning is off on those ships, which is more or less my fault. That's how physics works, my man. These ships are armored with 100mm and down RHA, with more thrusters and heavy pen guns. Arguably, they're still floaty, so I might lower the weight of everything to compensate.

That's the intention. Problem with balancing that sort of thing is that if you make the small ships really nimble and agile, you make the heavier ships not nearly as sluggish as they ought to be, and you run headlong into a wall. When I made my AC-130, I had to replace practically all of the whole blocks with curved inner slopes to lighten it enough to even get it to initially be able to fly way back when. Currently it's like 80% curved inners, with almost the entire wingspan and most of the body(which is hollow) being curved inners. It steers like a whale, but it's surprisingly tanky as long as there's no flak involved.

what the fuck. Nope, deals off lonely machine craft anon.
>>165635794
The trick to making large planes not handle like shit in Robocrap is to use stacked wings, and to only build your plane as wide as you need it, and let the large wings make up most of the aesthetic look of an actual wing instead of blocks.
Theres a movement penalty for blocks that get further and further away from your center of mass. But wings/rudders arent affected by this rule.
In this example picture the plane on the top will turn and roll much better than the plane on the bottom, despite the plane on the top looking wider and more unwieldy.

Well, I actually kinda like the way it flies right now, because it handles like you would expect a large plane to handle. Also due to the required wing shape, and need to mount the propellers(used to be thrusters) on the underside of the wings for the authentic AC-130 look, I can't really double stack wings like that without it ruining the aesthetic.

If we have 1TB USB drives now, how come normal sized PC hard drives arent like 100+TB?
>>165649807
I'd assume because those USB drives are SSDs and PC drives are typically HDDs, the latter's a lot cheaper than the former, and who the hell needs 100+TB of memory anyway
>>165649807
Memory controllers. Basically, the index of the drive. At this point, that's the most expensive component. NAND and platters are pennies a gig, but those controllers get exponentially more expensive every 100gb you add to the array.
We already have 100tb drives, but they're tape drives with incredibly slow write times, due to the overlapping of information that doubles the amount of information that can be stored, but makes it more difficult to write to.
Also, feel free to look at the transfer speed of a usb drive and compare it to a mid-range ssd, or even a 7200rpm drive.
>>165649807
Aren't those considerably slower than even harddrives? And the main thing about solid state memory and storage is the controller nowadays. You can manufacture transistor-less memory, but you still need a chip or twenty to index and access all that space, as well as determine and repair any damaged cells.

A durable craft requires durable components, thus you can simply reduce the thrust/mass ratio of the durable thrusters.
That way, the maximum possible acceleration (and by extension, speed) using a given set of thrusters can be adjusted, and you can force the whole sanic=squishy thing.

>their givaways and Q&A's are riged to not be challenged
They are all waiting for him to get bored as he did with miner wars, and abandon the projects.
And what kept the shit going, its comunity is kill because marek look at the youtube channel with more subs, despite being known for anyone else as a "chinise leveled" copypaster, and do PR stuff with them, now everyone is doing survival videos and shit like that, instead of... engineering related content and show the potential of the game, and as a result, you have manchildren with angie varona complex, they show their stuff, but they say they wont upload it because they fear copypasters, dont answer questions and become paranoid arrogant pieces of shit, just what the comunity needs to stop sharing and talking, for now its being held by a few modders and scripters, wich are also quitting, they hate experienced players because we know too much about the shit going on, so they wont even agree in the most obvious stuff.

It's mostly crew logistical engineering, if you've got a missile ship then the missiles need to be grabbed from a cargo rack and loaded into a launcher by hand, so you need to make sure your weapons room has enough space for all of that. If you've got a mining ship, you want your extractor and refiner next to each other, then your cargo pads and/or a cargo teleporter not far away. Other than that it's mostly just /svgg/

What are some drugs (Preferably legal and over the counter, with mild side effects compared to the nastier prescription/hard drugs) that can summon the laser autism focus that you get for the first few hours of a new egg game? I personally like Adrafinil, only increases wakefulness but if mental fatigue is what's holding back your autism it may work. More powerful than caffeine, less side effects, and doesn't build tolerance with extended use, only problem is it is far more expensive at about a dollar a dose for .5 grams.
