you are best to look for higher attack and defense gear, it greatly helps. whatever is your current gear average determines what light level gear you obtain so make sure to always max that aevrage out by wearing your strongest damage/defense gear. Once your hit lvl 40, pic related can help show you where higher light gear can be obtained as some is locked off to end game things.
