They are trying to make it more similar to Civ/Beyond Earth when they should be going the Grand Strategy with more complex diplomacy and empire administration.

It'd probably still be fun, just not what I expected.

Reposting because the two lonely souls playing EL might not read the old thread
I've won three games in EL so far. Wildwalkers Domination on normal, cultist Elimination win on Hard and vaulters science win on serious. Now for the last two difficulties i wanna go for a diplomacy win with the drakken and an economic win with the broken Lords. Which one should I play on impossible, which one on endless? Also how much should I expand for either win? With the vaulters i didn't hold more than 20% of the regions but only fought one war and almost won diplomacy win bc of my alliances as my army was too weak to risk bad relationships.

>There are two ‘sequels’ that are partly underway. Aurora 2, written in C#, and Newtonian Aurora, which is in VB6. Aurora 2 has nicer graphics but in the end Aurora was never about graphics – it’s about gameplay. It’s really an old style wargame with many RPG elements that you happen to play on a PC. The computer makes playing easier but you could replicate a lot of the game with pen, paper, some dice and a calculator. The action is taking place in your head, not on the screen. So I guess Aurora 2 is on hold because I would rather add new features than spend time making the game look prettier.

>Newtonian Aurora is an attempt to create a version of Aurora based on real Newtonian physics, rather than the wet-Navy physics used in Aurora (explained away with the some techno-babble). Its a lot more advanced in terms of development than Aurora 2, a lot more complex than Aurora and has some very cool features. That is also on hold for the moment, mainly due to a lack of free time since I started my current job, but I am more likely to go back to that than Aurora 2.

Play Forgotten on Endless and add 1 Necrophage and 4 non-Necrophage races.

Watch Necrophages destroy everybody else and then just crush their capital with the use of 2x 3 moral decreases and 1x 100% fortification reduction.

Reposting from old bread:
If i want go full autist and have literally the best yelds/pops/turf in Master of magiv, what's the best wizard/race build?
I can't decide between Dwarves and Dark Elves for the title of "holy shit why can't o hold all this EVERYTHING".
Also, i'd want Myrran and Warlord, but i ALSO need the spellbooks in life and nature to get the town enchanents. Is it more reliable to get talents in wizard creation and spellbooks in the overworld or vice-versa?

Well, if you want to REALLY abuse some mechanics...
There's a white city enchant that removes unhappiness. Cast it and increase tax to max
Either that or a zombie-trolls.
You can also try a master-summoner build.

Assuming you're not a nature wizard who can reshape the land you may have city locations that are very limited in population.
While a 25 pop dark elf city beats all other cities in yields, and a 25 pop high elf city beats all other arcanian cities in yields, both of them lack some infrastructure that puts them behind beastmen/draconians and highmen/nomad/orc/halflings at certain pop levels.

So Dwarves would be extremely good rather than Dark Elves, giving the existance of this enchantement?

>what are the minimum life/nature picks required to cast all the town enchants?

Well with 5 life spellbooks you'll be able to research 3/10 very rare spells, and there are 3 very rare town enchantments in the life school.

you need 10 spell books to guarantee that you get all 3 of them, and thus all 10 of them.

>So Dwarves would be extremely good rather than Dark Elves, giving the existance of this enchantement?
Dwarves may pay more taxes innately, but dark elves have access to banks and merchant guilds.

Also you get a buttload of money as high elves with the stream of life.

>Also, which are easier to find im the map, talents or spell picks?
Spellbooks are more common in any given node.
But Sorcery nodes can only yield Sorcery Spellbooks, not any other type of spellbook.
While you can learn Archmage from all types of encounter zones.
>>

Drakken are a bit weaker than BL, so I'd say do them on impossible. As to expansion - with drakken you only need a few regions, BL on the other hand are extremely expansionist by design.

It's okay, but I'm really surprised that they're releasing this early. Kind of simple and I do have some objections with the overall balance/mechanics of the game, but I've had fun with it. Enslaving all the weird shit in the galaxy and committing space genocide is kind of fun.

As the other Anon said it's kind of overpriced. I honestly wouldn't get it right now unless you're really craving for exactly this kind of game, and even then it's just kind of fun, not really great.

If there's interest, I can post about it on the 19th to see if the full release is a significant update.

It would get popular if it was marketed more like how they market Civilization.

The problem may be that a lot of people like the historical part of Civ and that its more casualized compared to EL which is deeper and the combat actually need you to plan it out if you have special abilities on your units.

DONT AUTO COMBAT against units with Stun, Beam attack etc...
The auto combat computer will do the same retarded move all the time.

I only Auto Combat when I have an overwhelming force.

Another tip, build military reguarly.

Once in a while I consider making something like Aurora, because it's relatively easy to do this kind of development in C#. But I like realism, which means having realistic orbital mechanics, which means it's too much of a pain in the ass for the player to do navigation, which means the AI will end up doing it which isn't as fun.
>>
>>165356272
Realistic orbital mechanics are pretty simple if you've taken physics
Just pretend relativistic effects don't exist, which is reasonable for most orbits that do not involve stellar remnants.

>>
>>165358731

Last game I started in insanity I had them spawn right next to me and they were advanced AI (2 planets ahead). Managed to make a defensive pact with some other faction nearby to put the cancer to an halt.

I was in Ironmode and tried a rush. By around 20 years after start I attacked with 2.2k and two fortresses (level1). Faggots had 3k and superior armaments. I lost.

Its impossible on insanity to rush an advanced AI. Too much power. The best approach is to box them, make an alliance diplomatically and expand passive afterwards to gain momentum.
>>
>>165358731

Also that hive mind tumor is KoS. They turn against you sooner or later and spread like cockroaches.
>>
>>165359436

Now that I think of it, maybe if I had upgraded the spaceport and placed the fortresses next to it I could stand a chance.
>>
>>165353212
I was hesitant to buy it at first, because of the fantasy setting and I personally like sci-fi and history better but it's at least not your typical orcs and elves, sure it's similar but still unconventional. I kinda fucked up my production with the vaulters that's why my military was pretty weak. Might have to do with the higher difficulty.

Let me know if you have any more ponderings and how your game is going if you've started.

I made a chart a while back where I could put in pop numbers, cryxs near the city and so on to see which race yielded the most power.

Dark Elves are superior at pop 9-25 and pop 9 cities aren't hard to aim for, even if you cram a lot of them in there.
You don't have to go soley with one race as well. Some races may have weaknesses you can't easily cover up with magic.
Like in my current game I'm playing as halflings and their strength is high figure units, which make them very weak against spells that affect effery figure in the unit like Flame Strike.

It can also be good to have different races even if you don't plan to use their units.
There's a trade bonus in the game that goes up to 75%.
A city can get 3% trade bonus per pop, and it can fill that trade from various sources.
The +10% gold you get from settling on a coast, is a trade bonus. You don't actually get +10% bonus immediately, the city has to grow up to pop 4 to make use out of it.
Rivers give +20% trade bonus.
Then you can get a trade bonus from roads.
If you have two cities that are connected to eachother by roads, they give eachother a trade bonus based on the race and the pop.
I think it's +2% trade bonus per pop if it's another race, and +1% trade bonus per pop if it's the same race.
So a large road network on a huge continent and you can probably bring the trade bonus up to 75%, but on smaller continents it may be a problem.
Nomads get +50% trade bonus so they don't have to rely on roads.

When settling cities I tend to prioritize power generation though so generally dark elves are fine.
Rule of thumb:
pop 7-25 = dark elves
pop 1-6 and coastal = draconians
pop 1-6 and not coastal = beastman

Beastmen don't have access to the merchant guild while, draconians do, and it requires the city to be on the coast.

I can't find the article, but basically the head artist they hired for the 3rd game was butt buddies with an executive. He threw out all the old school art designs, and then proceeded to tell the designers how to do their jobs too DESPITE NOT KNOWING ANYTHING ABOUT GAME DESIGN, all with backing by the execs.

Also, I can't remember which part of this is accurate, but either Quicksilver Software, Inc. never had anyone from the original 2 games working on 3, or the artist pissed them off so bad they left. Either way, it released with none of the previous people who worked on the other two games having contributed to the 3rd much at all.
>>
>>165361492
Different anon here.

If you don't mind me asking, what's your opinion on Nomads? I've been thinking of getting into MoM and they seem like a good starting race.
>>
>>165362418
I think they're very good.
I think it's the favourite race of one of my friends who got me into MoM.

Nomads, Orcs, High Men and High Elves are among the "Advanced Arcanian Races", so they have most infrastructure.

They have Rangers which is basically a unit of aragorns. They have pathfinding, a decent ranged attack and a decent melee attack, and they have 2 movement.
Most units have 1 movement, cav have 2 and some fast fliers have 3 basically.
Rangers are only 4 figure so I generally prefer Slingers and Longbowmen to them when it comes to ranged attackers.

Their Griffins is a top tier unit. First Strike and Armor Piercing like Elven Lords and Paladins, and they fly so they can initiate more and get more use out of the first strike.

The only thing I think they're really missing out on is magicians, but I don't always use them.
>>
>>165352421
This looks pretty simple. What's good about it?

>>165361515
I liked MoO 3 as well, but shit is flung at it for good reasons.

There's ship design and turn based combat, some population mechanics that are okay. Oh, and combat is just stupidly brutal, where wars can depopulate a galaxy fast.
Personally I like that terraforming and the like is fairly late in the game, and population density is very important, so there's a very tangible benefit towards "acquiring" and distributing species across you empire, either as members or as slaves.
Trade is hugely improved by having good diplomatic relations with other empires, since you always want to expand your maximum number of active trade lanes, which means that aggressive empires lose out on profits (though it's unfortunately still really easy to make a fuckton of cash even if you're isolated). While easy, I enough of an easily pleased retard to enjoy planning out and building fully optimised planets with high pop density and no wasted/lacking labour force.

But it definitely is simple, and I get the impression that it isn't ever trying to be terribly complex. It just kind of works.
There's not a whole lot of micro involved, apart from fleets I guess. You can play it fairly quickly.

I like SiS, I've had fun with it, but it's not something I'd unconditionally recommend.

>>165365772
Paradox is horrible when it comes to DLC. CK2 has more than 60 DLCs by this point.
The game came out five years ago and they just announced another DLC. Making a badish base game and then adding DLC for at least half a decade seems to be their business model.

>Paradox is horrible when it comes to DLC. CK2 has more than 60 DLCs by this point
I´m still wondering who has the shittier DLC policy: Paradox or Overkill or that Train Simulator game with like 4k€ worth of dlc

>Oh, and combat is just stupidly brutal, where wars can depopulate a galaxy fast.
As in planet cleansing that people have to re-populate later? Have you had a game where peace was declared and both sides had to recolonize and rearm?

Sounds bolo-esque if so.
>so there's a very tangible benefit towards "acquiring" and distributing species across you empire, either as members or as slaves.

Does AoW3 even HAVE dlc? I thought there was just that one expansion.

Honestly I liked Shadow Magic better. The new system where explored tombs give stupid bonuses to city irritates my autism because I feel like I have to settle next to them.
>>
>>165368814
Most of the Paradox DLC is cosmetic stuff and I'd rather pay 10 bucks for an expansion that add a bunch of new mechanics than 7 bucks for a single heist, a gun that's either OP, a reskin or dogshit and a melee weapon that I'll never use.

Thanks fuck for the DLC unlocker

How am I supposed to deal with these assholes without kamikaze level military investment? My last games were all ruined by Alexander, China, Caesar, or Napoleon. Even when I can defend myself just fine and not lose cities, weaker civs fall to these guys and make them more powerful and annoying.

>As in planet cleansing that people have to re-populate later?
As the Gremak in particular, my standard strategy for mid-to-late game wars against enemy empires is to orbital bombard the planet until all inhabitants are dead or the survivors rebel and secede from the enemy empire. As far as I can remember, the first option is more common.
I might make a exception if there's valuable species there that I don't want to drive to extinction (like the one race in the game that can naturally survive without oxygen).

You can do this in the early game too, it's just less efficient. It's one of the reasons I consider getting a planetary defence grid to be such a high priority, because even if it's not a mach for an actual fleet it is a hindrance to smaller groups of enemy light ships.

>Have you had a game where peace was declared and both sides had to recolonize and rearm?
That's often the case, although the AI generally wants to conquer rather than exterminate. Which is understandable, seeing as bombing destroys all infrastructure, making a potentially valuable planet worth much less. Also if the AI wants to fight you, do not expect any peace to last.
All the grey system names in pic related denote empty systems that I have depopulated and not bothered repopulate.

>No bio-engineering your own people?

Oh boy where to start. As >>165362364 says the art director was in bed with the execs and shit on basically everything sensible to the point that the original designer from MoO1 was forced out of the project. The original guy actually wanted some really cool stuff in there like governmental corruption, religions forming and spreading along with a more traditional approach to the game with it more like MoO2 than the abomination that followed. The retarded art director on the other hand wanted absolutely insane needless complexity which at one point resulted in a build with over ONE HUNDRED GUI SCREENS to keep track of everything.

The high level of complexity was supposed to be offset by high amounts of automation which would let you focus on the big important things like expansion combat etc. Except the automation is coded like absolute shit which means you not only have to micro everything, you have to repeat said micro every turn as the automation tries its hardest to undo your work. The game also released during the massive piracy scare times with DRM so draconian you literally couldn't install the game if you had a CDRW drive.

The game had some cool concepts like the gasbag aliens who live in the upper atmospheres of gas giants which makes those planets not actual useless trash for everyone till late game and the Ithkul who are a bioweapon that literally eat other races and are justifiably hated and feared.
It also had some awful shit like the orion senate which you have a 50/50 chance of starting in unless you actually spend points in race creation to choose, it gives you instant coms with every other faction in it but this includes the resident super faction and this is a game with a "hate the human" AI so you get bombared with sabotage spies from turn 1 if you start in it. Including super race super spies

I could just tell you the ones that are really worth it:

Tiny .. etc make the ui much better for everything.

Additional map modes is like a full spy / intelligence dlc - it just adds many more map mdoes alongside the few existing ones like the diplomatic map etc.

Improved population - makes it so that if 50% of your pops have a different ethic it will be added to your government, it also adds birth control, makes the salves better and other nice things such as making some of the purged pops escape to neighbor empires instead of just being deleted from the game.

More genetic engineering - if you edit your whole primary species pops an event will start that allow to use the edited ones as primary species so if you add enduring trait you can actually use it for leaders now.

Planetary computer - allows you to build synthetics AI planet from the event.
Ringworld restore - allows you to restore ringoworld systems with a lot for effort also adds tier V - VI mineral / energy buildings, but makes them hard to research.

Researcher trait "Fix" - makes scientists to gain new traits as they progress just like ones on the ship.

Stellaris expansion - FTL makes warp and hyper-lane get some repeatable improvements.

Ticking warscore - if you want them to cede a planet, you invade it and every month you'll get something like +0.5 + 1 warscore per planet, works for cleanse, vassalize etc

>>
>>165388247
>Why is 3 objectively inferior?
I probably could go point by point comparing how every system in each game compares to the other. How some systems in 3 are an improvement, if a minor one, i.e. economy screen, hexes, etc. How most are non the less inferior under cooked versions lacking polish and depth of 2. But to sum it all up - GalCiv2 was a labour of love by it's devs, while GC3 was a job. Even after GC3 was released GC2 got a major patch just because.

>And what if any mods should I get for 2?

Made a stellaris game with the fanatic materialist and militarist ethos only. Conquered a neighbour.

Theres not a rats ass chance in hell I could make them drift to my ethos, even with reeducation campaigns and information quarantine. You are pretty much forced to pick either individualist ethos or just put them to the chain, forcing the player to pick either xenophobe/collectivist or individualist. Certain ethos combinations are plain impossible.

>>
>>165394845
Let's say Persia, Polynesia, and England all want me dead to varying, descending degrees. Persia gets the strongest, then England, then Polynesia. England shares a decent border with me, Polynesia and Persia get pinched into narrow spots because good geography for defense. I ended up letting Persia rape Polynesia while I pillaged Polynesia. Was that a bad move?
>>
>>165396353
You never want someone dominating your continent, You should have used this opportunity to gang up on Persia to cut them down to size, even if both wars went nowhere it's better than having your strongest neighbour grow stronger, even if you get a city or two out of the deal. There are exceptions to this, dictated by geography or diplomacy, but that's the gist of it.
>>
>>165393592
You can easily do that with re-education campaign, some edicts that give -ethic divergence and building or space module for mind control. I think you have to check the pops and see if you got their ethic divergence at around -20 -30% if you do that, the pops will eventually get brainwashed.

It works, just not that early, you can even gene edit them for less ethics divergence.

Chance to convert is ethics divergence per year, divided by 10.

Started my first game at normal, doing kinda good with Dark Elves, but i take ages to clear my surroundings without warlocks.
Any tips for the starting lair-clearing party?
>>
>>165432775
As dark elves I just use stacks of spearmen.
Their range attack is better than swordsmen and halberdiers due to their extra two figures.

Depends on what you try to clear though, they can't take care of sky drakes because of the magic immunity and their speed, great wyrms will just slaughter them due to merging.

For great wyrms you may be able to use a stack of nightmares.

I think you can use a nightblade to scout non death-sorcery-life nodes to see the exact contents of the node.

I'd try to get another myrran race for something like sky drakes.
Minotaurs, Hammerhands/Golems, Doom Drakes.

Each source of adamantium can at best boost two cities.

Draconian Bowmen with adamantium weapons can possibly clear a bit in safety. Maybe even great wyrms.

What were your picks? Myrran+Life?

Also you don't have to clear everything around you, just keep garrisons so you can defend against raiders.

Not really. You put the mining buildings on the red squares, the power plants on the yellow squares, the farms on the green squares, etc.

The only choices that aren't completely trivial are how to exploit adjacency effects, which resources to suppress for specialization, and what you want for the empty squares. However, this doesn't actually take any time to do.

The devs wanted to use up the player's time (since that's what leads to the dedication necessary to buy DLC), so they filled the game with busywork. It's so unfun that they had an AI do it, and made the AI so bad that you'll need to periodically spend influence to take back the planet and micromanage it yourself (a task that takes so many clicks in so many menus that is also uses up a lot of player time).

Yes really.
I said you have a limited set of resources, and you didn't argue that.
You may have hundreds of different places you can use your minerals, while you only have a limited amount of minerals to use, so you have to make the decision on where to use those minerals, which is more urgent.

The Sensor Stations come with the New Ship Classes & More mod. They count as Military Stations, but they are able to equip one special sensor array - a sensor array that gives them 200 sensor range.

In that screenshot there the sensor station was built in Huph, so you can see just how much is uncovered from that alone.

Creating a Species for Horizon Signal:

Completing the Horizon Signal event chain changes your dominant species, granting the following traits:

1) Tomb World Preference.
2) Intelligence.
3) Natural Physicists.
4) Repugnant.

To get the most out of your points at species creation, you want to avoid taking any traits that deal with habitability (Adaptive, Very Adaptive, or Nonadaptive).

You also want to avoid taking Intelligent or Natural Physicists, because you'll get them later.

You do want to take Repugnant, because it'll function as a free point, and its penalty isn't very crippling.

If you're playing Collectivist, I'd suggest also taking Decadent, and if you're playing Individualist you should take Deviant. If you're playing neither, Sedentary is a good choice.

In my current game I started with Industrious, Thrifty, Deviant, and Repulsive to maximize my resource collection and it's been working wonderfully.

My species is currently Industrious, Intelligent, Natural Physicists, Thrifty, Deviant, & Repugnant and they can settle damn near anywhere.

Could you have genemodded your species before the horizon signal, or would your main species before you genemodded just have been altered then?
60% from base tier 2, +10% from tech, +10% from strategic, +10% from hospital
So 90% habitability on tier 1 worlds.
Only worth taking adaptive if you were going for 100% happiness.

Do you only use your species and no others then btw?

Alright, tried a new game as Inca (I mean, they're considered at least okay, right?) and had 4 city states and China on my continent. I could tell China was going to attack (marching an army towards me meant it was me or the city state, and she did take over the city state by her so it might have been that), so I beat her to the punch so I could do better. Since I did not want to deal with the warmongering from China, I warmongered China out of existence. When I took over the former city state, I liberated it, but that did not do enough to cut the war mongerer penalty and literally every civ except 1 would declare war on me, almost all at once. Granted, because they are doing naval attacks and they mostly suck at those, they can't take shit, but between the wars and being embargoed I can't spread culture or trade for shit. Is completely eliminating other Civs bad if you are not going for a domination victory?

Also, Sweden got nukes in that game and threatened me with them, saying that their words were now backed by nukes. They also had a Hostile status with me. Would they actually be likely to nuke me, or not really? Would being on a different continent make me probably safe from an atomic attack (I know carriers exist, but I'm not sure the AI would go to the trouble to try it, especially since they seem to suck at using navies in general).

>>
>>165487869
Hill movement is great, no maintenance for roads in hills is great, half maintenance for roads over all is great.

The most important thing in the game is science, you get science from pops, you get pops from food, and the incans have more food than others through terrace farms.
>>
>>165488832
Fair enough.
Back to my earlier question though, if there is a warlike civ next to me and I don't kill it, it keeps trying to kill me. If I do kill it, I am Satan to the rest of the world and get fucked diplomatically and by other Civ's armies (or at least they try to fuck me over, anyway). Do I just have to take everything but their capital and surround them so they can't keep expanding and causing more shit?
>>
>>165489985
The only way around it is to wipe out the warmonger before anyone else meets him.
But yes, gutting him, tasking his capital, and leaving him as a remnant is also an option. Just let him keep a shit tier city off somewhere remote if possible.

So I've been playing a few Civ VI games with my bro, and I want to cheese the next game. I learned that playing as russia and spamming settlements is a great strategy, but especially knowing which civics and techs to rush, and the early game build order is difficult.

This book is a thousand pages long. Someone wrote a thousand pages of this, and thought it was a good idea to publish it. And give it a theme song.

To put that in perspective, most RPG core books are anywhere from 200-400 pages long +- 50 pages and are a result of a team.

There's a mod that adds an "Infective" trait that if your pop with that trait is on a world with other species, it will convert that pop into that infective species.

Though the newly converted pop will be what ever the main ethos is on that planet.

I once used it with an open borders treaty and basically turned an entire species into more infestors, and then used conquered planets as population farms by relocating them to my worlds to increase population when they are converted.
>>
Are federations worth it?
I'm an xenophile individualist - I'm thinking about starting to conquer neighbors that are alone and have no alliances.

But there's a 4 civ federation that's ready to accept me now, problem is they are on the other side of the galaxy, but If I get in I can also invite in 2 more civs that are next to me so that will make us a 6 civ federation.

Guys, which is easier to play, in your opinion:

A Collectivist empire, or an Individualist empire?

I find that whenever I play Collectivist, I have a ton of factions sapping away at my influence and no friendly neighbors -- but maybe I'm playing it wrong?

What are your thoughts?
>>
>>165531549
individualist.

collectivist, just purge anyone that's creating problems, becomes tedious

individualist, build happiness buildings and you should be right. Only trouble is for the short term after you cede a system factions may be annoying, but if you liberate->vassalise they won't be
>>
>>165531743
That's what I was thinking.

I'm glad I'm on the right track, then.
>>
>>165531743
I'm trying to make a mod right now ( I haven't even started will start now ) to both reduce the truce time after wars to 3 years ( already done, just have to steal the code ) and also make it so that recently conquered is 3 years instead of 10.
>>
>>165531743
Wait if you liberate > integrate it's the same as just asking for the planet - because the pops that end up in your empire will have same ethos as their original empire that generated them.
>>
>>165532056
there's already a mod out for that, at least there was for 1.3, not sure if it's been updated, reduces truce time to 3 or 5 years can't remember which.

>>165532125
>same as just asking for the planet
what do you mean? there's no trade option to ask for a planet... And yes I know the pops will have the same ethos for their original empire but they don't have the -25% happiness from being "recently conquered" which creates far less faction issues and as they are happier it also makes them convert to your ethos quicker. Happiness is a factor is ethics divergence but not sure exactly how it works between the two.
>>
>>165532056
Ok done, just need to make a mod out of these:
NDefines.NGameplay.TRUCE_YEARS = 3
NDefines.NAI.THREAT_TRUCE_MONTHS = 12
NDefines.NPop.RECENTLY_CONQUERED_DAYS

>>165532623
If there was a mod for that I would just use the mod. Trust me I've searched.
>>
Just beat Civ v on king for the second time. Might move up to emperor next game. Is picking only the really strong civs for harder difficulties lame? Most of my games used random starting civs and I only changed if I got a really shitty one.

Also, does nuking your problems away become less effective/viable in higher difficulties?
>>
>>165532056
>>165532623
forgot to say I'd prefer the recently conquered to remain at 10 years. Feels more natural and changing it makes it too easy. The truce time is retarded though so reducing it I don't have a problem. All it does is artificially prolong the game and halt expansion. It's a pain in the ass.

I found a solution tho, download the 3 years truce mod open the lua file from the archive edit it and simply add a new line:
NDefines.NPop.RECENTLY_CONQUERED_DAYS = 1095

done u have 3 years truce and 3 years unhappiness from recently conquered.
>>
>>165533231
simple enough
>>
>>165533975

The mod did not work so I went and edited it directly into \common\defines\00_defines.lua

GalCiv 3 AI is okayish but you can just roll it easily be stacking engines and outmaneuvering it. They need to nerf that somehow or just make it limited to one engine per ship because AI never puts more than one. You can get 20+ move and just completely outmaneuver them and snipe their planets from outside their range

>Capital ship Relentless Shadow has competed it's mission.

There are two ways to get them.
1. Salvage a "World Destroyer" project. This takes ages but gets you a fully functional death machine more than twice the size you can normally ever build. (Pic related.)
These projects are spawned in the galaxy creation phase IF you have the "Original Story" events active.

2. Be a lucky faggot and explore a ruin which gives you the "super laser" tech, which you can then use to build your own less impressive murder machines.
This requires no special settings and is always active in any game.
The down side being there are two other "super" weapons you can get this way, which while powerful in thier own right can't turn planets into glitter.

>>
Why does Stellaris never allow events to fire? I've played 5 games waiting for the War in Heaven and it never happens, one empire wakes and then goes to war for the rest of the game with one empire, with no change in warscore.
>>
>>165540463
If you recover the tech you can build the laser into any ships you want, providing you can fit the weapon and all the reactors you need to run it in whatever size limit you have.
Use supply ships.

But you can't put them on planets themselves.
The closest you can get is building giant lasers into a spaceport or defensive base.
A bit of a waste for the super laser, but an okay use for the death ray and devastator pulse.
>>
>>165540947
>But you can't put them on planets themselves.

I was ctually wondering about this. The enemy AI does build shit on planets. Sectors don't. Its infuriating. Why don't sectors work like the enemy empire AI. Still I'd like to see you pick a leader that will influence your faction, a gang leader (more violent, malus to trade and diplomacy but get bonus income from illegal stuff), a concerned citizen (turns your faction into a trading militia rather than a gang, but forbids you from trading in drugs and slaves), a rebel leader (wants to create his own small empire independent from the town), or a psycho (all workers are slaves, you get slaves uprising once in a while that you have to crush by force and torture).

It doesn't.

Since you seem to want a diplomatic victory, try using Montezuma, wipe the 2 closest civilizations, once you unlock Autocracy change to it and focus on getting the Gunboat diplomacy, then send a tank-destroyer to every city state, after 40 or so turns you'll have every one of them as your ally.

It works as far as you kill anyone who had met the ones you've killed.

Also
>look how badass I am
You stupid illiterate nigger that wasn't the point at all, divine mandate as a government is garbage since it's only draw is influence costs and ethics divergence which is completely superfluous since even without it you can push negative ethics divergence into the fucking sky, the democracy gets etremely high influence income due to mandates provided you're smart with ignoring 1 yield asteroids to purposely fufil them with, and also gets a happiness boost in a game where happiness is both extremely hard to get hold of and extremely powerful.

>>

what extra purge techs? I haven't played a civ that can purge in a really long time
>>
>>165605713
Well improved pops made purging time last from 1 to 10 years, it also added 3 researchable techs to remove in total 3 years from that.

Depending on purged pops traits, ethos it would then take a calculated amount of time.

I've removed the mods and edited purging time leaving everything else intact so that it takes 1 year to purge anything.

Custom events from mod still trigger, like pops might flee away to a neighborhood empire instead of being removed from the game.

How do you play Collectivist properly?

Whenever I try, I'm almost immediately up to my eyeballs in factions -- Slaves, mostly, and Abolitionists -- and it costs a fortune in Influence to keep them from causing trouble.

You used to be able to suppress their media or bribe their leaders to calm them down -- you could even purge a pop, if I'm remembering correctly, to punish the faction.

Now I don't know what to do, and it became so tedious that I started playing Fanatic Individualists.

But, a part of me still wants to be a total bastard.

How do I play a Collectivist empire?

Build the xenophobe building, monument to unity, on literally every planet. And use the welfare edict whenever you're not building war ships. I forgot I got lucky and got the elixir of life event and distributed it to the entire empire so got 5% happiness through that globally that you can't always rely on, you still poop happiness though and the traits mean you get much better diplomacy than xenophobes can normally rely on.

>>
>>165572557

>>
>>165626362

>>
>>165627039
Oh I forgot to mention this.Ethics moving away from your empire ethos is the listed % chance yearly since the asimov patch. But ethics becoming more like your empires is actually 10% the listed value yearly.

So -100% ethics divergence is actually only a 10% chance to change yearly.

I assume you have rp reasons for the happiness building as well, but I started looking at how efficient it was compared to replacing it with another yield building.

Left is as you have it now, Right is if you got another 6 yield from the new building and 10% less happiness leading to -4% less modified yields.

Disregarded food since you just make sure you have enough.

The former produces EVERYTHING, and Stream of life is godlike.
The latter produces more sheer power, and power can be converted in anything i need (Mp, Rp, Sp and gold), but my doubt is: can i reach max pop (the cap is 25 even with Gaia, yes?), tax rate 3 and have no rebels with the infernal power bonus?

Assuming you use dark rituals as well then Beastmen/Draconian > Dark Elves at pop 1-23 cities.
Equal to dark elves at 24.
Delves better at pop 25.

quick answer so may have missed something, playing mp
>>

>but my doubt is: can i reach max pop (the cap is 25 even with Gaia, yes?)
yeah cap is 25 even with gaia.

Life is amazing for improving your units so while death infernal beastmen would outproduce life dark elves in power, the dark elf units would fight so much harder.

My last game I was fighting against life dark elves and it was painful to beat down elite dark elven armies.
Had some sieges where the dark elf priests didn't have any losses against my slingers.

Pop 25 cities are rare, unless you have nature magic.

Eu4 loads slowly so had some more time

Tax rate 3 should work for infernal beastmen btw,

You can actually rule with mildly individualist just as easy. Even if some pop's ethos contrasts to some degree all you need is to compromise in some policies. That way you gain access to the plutocratic and science directorate oligarchies (which are among the best regimes).

Never played collectivist (just xenophobe). How hard is it to make them converge to your ethos?

Whats bad in hyperdrive?
>>
>>165667320

You can make tests for yourself in the console

Start a game that "is not" on ironman mode (or whatever the fuck its called).

Type the following

>"ai" - switches off ai over the map
>"research_technologies" all technologies researched

make a corvette with a level 1 warp drive
make another with a level 1 hyperdrive

Pause the game and make them move at the same time a decent distance (4, 5 jumps or so). Perform several tests. You will see how bad it is now, not to mention that ships in warp cooldown are no longer defenseless.

Btw, if you want to test fleets all you need to do is type the command "playX" with X different than 00 (which is always the player), research the techs again and you can test fleets (see how bad missiles are while you are on it lol).
>>
>>165667810

Srry forgot one command lol.

To add the ship just type "add ship NAME"
>>
>>165668034

>add_ship NAME

Always underscore. Srry about the spam but this is a great way to test stuff, specially when new patches kick in.

>>
>>165668774

One funny thing you can do also is to type the "observe" command, let time slide a few days and check which personality your faction is in the contacts window.

I'd really like to see religion in a sci-fi game. It always get removed or is just used as "they're religious, so they're nuts and have sacred worlds".

A strict religion like in Startopia where you give up on your possession and ascend would be interesting to have in a strategy game, as you ideally want your top scientists to stay away from it but you want it to spread to the other factions so that they lose important people.

And then you lose because they all managed to ascend.

That's probably because you're only seeing the front end of stuff like the map and moving armies, that is very similar.
The details have changed dramatically however.

>Pops, for instance, are now of particular races that provide different bonuses outside of the normal population bonuses on a planet.
>Research now runs on an Era system like in EL, although that is subject to change.
>Ship building is now limited in slots, again like in EL, instead of ES1's weight system.
>There's no tax system, but in its place is a really neat senate system where your demographic proportions determine what laws you can enact with influence.
>Demographics can change depending on a multitude of things, such as populations, quests, improvements, and others.
>Different government types that provide different empire-wide bonuses, but nothing really outside of that unfortunately.
>Colonization is now a two-step process, with the second step being an outpost constructed in a few turns which you can speed up with dust, manpower, or influence.
>These areas are also contestable during cold war, meaning now its not just "I put a ship there first now that area is mine GET OUT REE"
>Ground invasion is now its own thing outside of space battles, and troops can be upgraded via manpower, a new resource used mainly for military purposes.
>Trading and the market got some major fucking reworks and are now fucking fantastic.
>Colonies can now be upgraded in system level by giving them upgrades, which you design yourself with luxury resources (in place of using them as boosters).
>System level increases max pops on planets and the bonuses of certain improvements.
That's all I can name for now, but quite a lot has changed. Amplitude really pulled more from EL than ES1, but on the other hand there's a ton of shit ES2 does that is completely unique to itself.
Can't wait for it to come out so that the majority of 4xg isn't just 50% Stellaris general anymore.

There is also the trade company/outpost system in replacing the automated trade system from ES1 and EL.

From EL, minor factions existing and giving assimilation bonuses like -20% ship or construction costs, less food consumed per pop, etc.

There is also the exploration rework compared to ES1.

In ES1, you'd get wormhole tech before freemove tech.
In ES2, it is the opposite with freemove tech being an era 1 deal and wormholes being era 3.

Slightly in conjunction with the above is the probe system where you can fire them into whatever direction from a ship that has at least 1 in stock to scout a direction for x amount of turns. This is your primary way of finding new systems.
It also is how you explore curiosities where as in ES1, it was a first come, first served on just getting to the system.

Yeah, it's not a particularly good looking game. Luckily I usually don't care a lot about that, and I don't really mind the drawn graphics and the artstyle, but it would benefit from a visual redesign. I'm not loving the font, to put it that way.

Kind of want a UI rework, but that has more to do with functionality. Right now it all works, it's just not as informative as I'd like it to be. I want a dedicated demographics screen and a more detailed planet overview. Which is apparently planned for post-release.

I dunno. The game right now is in the state where I think it's okay, but I wouldn't recommend it at full price. So I sure hope those post-release plans they apparently have eventually make the game better.

Can you guys help me satisfy my minmax faggotry in Master of Orion 2? Have patience about the autistic questions.
>About picks
Subterranean and Creative seem a must for both 100% technologies and maximum population possible, but that takes a fuckton of points. Do subterranean and aquatic stack in terms of maximum pops per planet?
>Research for 4 additional trait picks
I guess i'd better use them for warlord to have the best fleet possible later on. Can i also modify and add these traits to races i've conquered (to minmax assimilated pops) or is it only for my starting race?
>Robot pops, how do they work
I've seen that there are robot pops in MOO2, are they literally the same as a classic pop but with increased yelds and PP mantainence? Do they take a special "max robot pops" per planet or do they use the same limit as the organic pops?
Finally, is it better to go:
>democracy
i would love it but it takes 7 fucking picks, not to mention i have to deal with whatever shitty pop the opponent has instead of my own (it would be fine if i could gene-mod subjugated races, but yet again, subterranean doesn't apply to planets with people different than my own no?)
>Unification
This looks good enough, but is it better to have no morale at all? I mean, i can set maximum tax rate, but would it eventually be better to have both morale buildings to get 40% increased yelds per planet instead? Or am i missing something?
>Dictatorship
If there's some min-max/completionist fag build that takes too many points i guess i'd have no choice.

The latter mostly, since i have got no myrran trait (3 points is a lot), i've opted for High Men or Halfling as starting race, then finding a Bestmen/Draconian city and from there on spam cities (or trolls if i can get them soon enough, but low growth and no magic pops is kind of a downer)

By the way, if i transfer my fortress to another race city, will my end score also portray me in the Hall of Fame as "Fabrigos of the [insert new race]" or is it still the race i've begun with?

Halflings have better output early on due to 3 food per farmer, but they have less infrastructure and potential.
Better ranged unit than high men, but aren't as versatile and they don't have the very very good paladins.
Halflings are mostly for Life magic and warlords imo. Paladins are always useful though, and Pikemen deal good damage.
My buffed great wyrm that I razed most of the AIs cities with in my last game lost 1/3 of its health to a pikeman in one exchange. I think it was elite though.

robot pops come in three classes, agricultural, worker and scientist. They use production as "food", and they share limit with the organic pops.

The strategy wiki says that once you upgrade dictatorship, instead of getting the -20% morale without barracks (so with barracks the penalty is nullified) you simply get a flat +20% morale bonus with barracks, no malus if without. Is it true? the game doesn't mention it in the info tab.
>Democracy and filthy xenos
It says that i cannot purge pops with this government. Are there ways to "export" them or force them to leave or just some workaround to this limitation to let them fuck off?
>Tax rate
It reduces... something, but what does it reduce exactly, and how much? Is it better kept low or high?
>>
>>165708228
Race with subterranian can live in the extra subterranian pop slots.
>>
>>165708465
Oooh, and does Aquatic offer some "special pop slot" too or is it just "+farming on wet planets", which becomes obsolete with gaia terraforming?
If so, does it stack with Subterranean?
>>
>>165708968
Aquatic just makes the race treat tundra/swamps as terran and terran/ocean as gaia. Yes becomes obsolete.

Subterranean is it's own thing. Personally I just enslave some sakkras instead of making my own race subterranean.

Is there a survival 4X?
Just asking if there's one, I'm curious how it plays.
>>
>>165709472
What would you consider a survival 4x?
>>
>>165709582
I dunno. A 4x where there's no enemy AI, just neutrals.
>>
>>165709582
Nevermind, while looking for example, I noticed I was describing Thea.

So I guess Thea is a survival 4X.
>>
>>165709714
First that comes to mind is just Survivalist, but that's more of an RPG with basebuilding.
There's Rebuild 2 and 3 which are more tile based city builders with a hidden map.
Judgement: Apocalypse maybe fits but I haven't played it.
Thea: The Awakening but that's kinda an RPG with basebuilding.

Anyone knows if Stellar Policies and Ethic&Government Rebuild are compatible? And I don't mean if they work together but if it's worth running both.

With Stellar Policies you can solve lots of ethic divergence problems, sure at a consistent cost.

Does Star Ruler really allow you to blow up stars?

How do you even blow up a giant ball of magma?

By throwing more magma at it, of course.

Yes, you can blow up stars in Star Ruler. Doing so will destroy most planets in the system as well, though you'd probably do it quicker by using tournaments star-blowing-up-cannon on the planets themselves.
Blowing up the big quasar in the center of the galaxy will create an explosion that can easily snuff out half the stars in the galaxy. Possibly more, depending on how dense the center is.

No, you have to be the first to scan it. When the NPCs scan things they get those events instead.

No matter how aggressively you explore, aliens will get to 75% of the places first, which is why the event chains are all broken.
>>
>>165714446
Halcyon is a popular scifi name. As for the game itself it's kinda like a 4x/roguelike meld. You are in charge of a starbase and your job is to manage, and build it up, while dealing shit going down allround you.

> Do subterranean and aquatic stack in terms of maximum pops per planet?
yes, its a strong combo, your water planets will become powerhouses, like max 32 pop
creative isnt as strong as you think, its convenient, but you can basically steal the techs you dont get. Basically its good for a turtle isolationist tall empire playstyle, but isnt even a top pick.
>robot pops

>democracy
dont bother
>dictatorship vs unification
uni is strong early, dictatorship is strong late due to morale bonuses
>>
>>165718104
It's not even a bug. It's intended. Of course there aren't going to be anomalies sitting around in alien space. Of course their scientists are going to use them up during exploration. The 'correct' design saps away the fun of the game and gives it to an AI that doesn't even care.
>>
>>165718295
>>robot pops
>dont bother
I put robot miners/researchers on toxic worlds because the planets can't be terraformed and the robots ignore habitability. That fact also means that robots on unterraformed worlds fill up "free" spaces that normal organics can't occupy, at least until the planet becomes terran/gaia.

How did I know this was going to be Stellaris? Also, I'm perpetually ready to be disappointed by video games ever since I bought Spore at release.
>>
>>165719148
>It's not even a bug. It's intended.
That may be true for some of the anomaly events, but not others. Do you really think someone will pass up researching a shielded planet in their SOI just cause someone else happend upon it before they did?
>>
>>165719148
I can't finish the Cybrex mission because their homeworld ended up in enemy territory (and they scanned it first so I get nothing if I scan it myself)

I can't finish the "Hunt for the Hyacinth" questline because I've explored every system near my home system by the time it popped up.

I've found 3 shielded worlds and NEVER have I been the first.
>>
>>165720492
>Hunt for the Hyacinth
Thats the worst. Best piece of faction flavor in the game, still managed to fuck up the code.
>>
>>165720492
They need to add a modifier that lets certain anomalies be surveyed more than once.

But I'm pretty sure that if you were to get access to the Cybrex homeworld you would get access to a special project that would let you continue the quest chain.
It was in one of the patches, they wanted to address the problem of never being able to finish the precursor quest chains.

If they've changed it so it's more likely for the player to finish one of those damn precursor storylines I haven't seen it. Of the 5 I've "completed" only once did I manage to finish it without the game bugging out.

And it's the aliens who figured out they were inside a computer game. I really, really want to see the one where they were wiped out by a disease, I've seen it a dozen times but it never seen the homeworld because it never pops up.
>>
In Stellaris if I finish a precursor chain, can I do another one?

I finished the Irassian one and then I found some Cybrex ones in another empire's territory. Only thing is that they don't show up in the situation log, so I don't even know if I am actually doing anything. Is it worth doing?
>>
>>165706936
I like the idea. You should be able to convert different kinds of pops to different species.but you should be restricted by both the ethics of your government and your pops.

>New policy with different levels regarding species shifting.
>Species shifting is illegal. Xenophobes.
>Species shifting is designated by the state. Collectivists.
>Species shifting is legal. Neutrals & Xenophiles.
>Species shifting cannot be influenced by the government. Individualists.

>Xenophobic pops with a collectivist government can be forced into species shifting, but get a massive happiness penalty and form a new faction immediately.
>Xenophillic pops have a chance of randomly turning into a different species.
>Other stuff.

So, Collectivism is for cucks -- or so I've been told.

Would Fanatic Individualist/Xenophobe be appropriate for playing as Emperor Space-Bastard the IV?

How about Individualist/Materialist/Xenophobe?

Do I need to go whole-hog with Individualist to avoid factions, or would the Happiness bonus of Direct Democracy be enough to keep my Pops productive?

The plan is to rapidly expand using conquered primitives, then exploit the Horizon Signal, purge the primitives, and re-colonize the now empty planets with my upgraded Pops.

Do other xeno empires hate you as much if you demand 'Abandon Planet' instead of 'Cede Planet' as a war goal?
