Apparently the next DLC is called something like "City of the Dead" but also uses the same words for Profaned Capital and Hollows. So it's very possible for it to be named "Capital of Hollows" which might also be Londor.

So far we have a name in the files that comes out to "Capital of Hollows" in translation, and an NPC ID named CapitalKnight that was added with DLC1 corroborating it.

There was code found in the game files called DLC2_MIYAKONOMOUJA.

Miyako no mouja (都の亡者) literally means "Capital of the dead", but they refer to Hollows as "the dead" (亡者) in the JP version, so the localized name would be Capital of Hollows.

Since Londor is decribed as the "land of hollows" in the Hollow's Ashes description (or more specifically, "country of Hollows" (亡者の国) in the JP version), it's likely that the DLC will take place in the capital of Londor.

Just finished demon's souls for the first time. I was loving how different it looked at first and it turned out to be a good game as expected but it was a little bland and the bosses were piss easy. I also didn't think the false king was going to be the true last boss. I was expecting to go back and spend near 300k on strength to fight the actual last boss after the nexus opened up etc. I recently finished ds1 for the first time too and that was a bit disappointing also, mainly because the bosses were shit again.

Maybe I'm biased but I prefer ds2 and 3 over demons and ds1. Ok, maybe saying ds2 is better than those is a little harsh but ds3 definitely is and bloodborne is better than all of them for multiple reason imo.

Tempted to sell my recently bought ps3 now as I can't really see myself wanting to replay demons and ds1 again.

Yep. I admit i'm a console fag so bloodborne was my first souls game and souls 2 was my second, then ds3. I obviously played ds3 and bloodboren with much better graphics and consistent frame rate than demons and ds1 but it was more than that. Everything (even in ds3) had a better pace to it. Half of the bosses actually felt threatening and here I was thinking all along that the bosses were always the main deal with these games. Well in demons and ds1 it didn't feel that way at all for me. Ds1's world was more connected and well done but I found it tedious at times. Besides that connected feel, everything about bloodborne and ds3 was better imo.

I love Demon's souls. Everyone uses lucerne+adjudicators because its the most effective holy build overall. Blessed Lucerne+ajudicator shield+regenerators ring pretty much breaks the game and you regenerate hp fast as fuck as well as having a spammy weapon with lots of range.

It's not fleshed out like the sequels, has several annoying mechanics (Tendency and item burden) and is really dead
The online is buggy, it's common to backstab people from 10 feet away and send them flying in the opposite direction
It's enjoyable for a couple of playthroughs but lacks variety of builds and weapons, has no movesets

Blessed Mirdan Hammer + Adjucator Shield + Regenerator's Ring + Regeneration miracle = something like 40 HP/sec
It's not very offensively strong because of things like Dark Silver Shield and the huge stamina damage to shields + low Adjucator shield stability, but the regen kiting is offensively ridiculous

Stay away from magic and black turpentine if you don't want to break the game

DeS has item burden, so drop your items at Stockpile Thomas and get that ring that allows you to carry more, Ring of Herculean Strength. The build they're using is probably a faith regen build. I believe halberds have infinite stunlock in DeS if you don't toggle.

If some boss bonfires that were unnecessary (Ornstein 3 butterfly edition, vordt and dancer both having bonfires, etc.) then you would have a bonfire density closer to the other games.

Vow is pretty good as is, the problem is that it's countering something that just isn't worth countering. If magic were better, vow would be more valuable.

People can kinda run away from you when you cast it if you haven't got a spear or something, so linking it to stamina might be worth doing, but its still got enough of a duration.

ultimately starting class isn't really all too impactful on the experience, basically you just want a class that doesn't waste stats on things you aren't leveling if you're trying to stay under a certain level for PvP. If you're a new ds3 player just use knight, it'll let you try out the most stuff while fixing you to the fewest paths.

Literally every other Soulsborne game's boss either had buildup or was an at least decent tweest, Soul of Cinder's biggest twist is that he was on the cover and biggest lore implication is that there's a difference between people who sat on a throne to link the fire and people who linked the fire directly, but even then, that isn't showcased in his fight and the difference isn't specified anywhere.

Could've ended at Twin Princes and it would've been *okay*, it definitely would've been one of those "wait for DS4 bud" moments.

Probably should've ended with Gwynevere. She wasn't in Anor Londo, she was gone by the time we got to Heide, we missed her by a few years when we get to Lothric. Bitch has been breeding for Gwyn and carrying on his legacy for far too long. Dark Souls as a series is pretty negative about its outlook on the cycle, I have no idea why we didn't get one ending that was any different in terms of finality from the original Dark Lord ending of DS1. The cyclebreaking theme was nonexistent in DS3, which I think was one of the things DS2 got right.

All of the game design behind Soul's lore, basic combat mechanics, customization, and equipment was taken out of armored core. It shares that entire appeal, souls just simplified and slowed things down and made it 2D (ground) instead of 3D (ground+air). The later games share even more with Souls in the boss battles, melee combat, and level design. Souls has better atmosphere and is a lot easier to pick up and play though.

They sold 730,000 copies in 2012-2013 with their last game, and that was before DS2/BB gave them positive press release. Even a mediocre AC6 release would easily sell >1m copies.

People like mech games. There's a new mechwarrior and a new battletech game coming out soon too. There's Hawken and Titanfall, which just came out and are selling great.

Dark Souls 2 is pretty much ignored by Dark Souls 3, because its lore was extremely bad and most likely wasn't done by Miyazaki. Some of the self contained parts like Shulva, Lindelt, etc were fine, but the rest was garbage probably because of the change of directors. The game didn't know if it wanted to be a separate tale of a land far away from Lordran or a true sequel, so you had some things pointing to that but then the Lord Souls were nonsensically still on that land. Anons in this thread still say it was meant to be far away from Lordran going from that interview, but if so, why are the souls there? Or the copy pasted sunlight altar, the "Old Dragonslayer", etc?

Dark Souls 2's fanservice was done really badly, because the game wanted to tell a new story about breaking the curse but they still forced in some copy pasted Dark Souls 1 things where they didn't fit, just for fanservice. If you expect some definite answers in the DLC, and characters like Velka, Gwynevere, Lloyd, etc. you will be disappointed. The DLC will probably have some links to the actual game's lore but will mostly be self contained, just like the first DLC. I expect all its bosses to be new characters.

Funny story about Last Raven: It was meant to be From Software's final game.

In 2004 or so the company was hemorrhaging money and they put out the very mediocre Nine Breaker (which had very poor sales). Their international publishers 505 Games / Agetec were going to close the doors for the PS3, meaning that From Soft didn't have funding to afford a PS3 dev kit (~$30k back then) and so they decided to end the series. They put all of their effort behind a new game, "Last Raven", which would be insanely difficult and made purely for the fans of the series as a final send-off.

The game sold surprisingly well, prompting Sony and Sega to step in and funded them in the interim, buying them the dev kit, under the promise that they would make Sega an Xbox 360 exclusive online-active mech shooter, Chromehounds. Sega's Atlus team would then work with SCE to make Demon's Souls with From Soft a few years later.

Before Demon's Souls, Miyazaki was "The guy who ruined Armored Core". The Miyazaki-directed AC games (Last Raven was directed by Dai Takemura) are they easiest, most dumbed-down gameplay in the series, with the least emphasis on gameplay customization and the most emphasis on twitch dodging / reaction speed.

They're still decent games, and some people really liked the simplified style more, but a lot of fans hated it and AC4 sold spectacularly poorly in Japan.

It's also possible that the open chests in Shulva contained Ornstein's armor, spear, and ring, since Shulva was undoubtedly influenced by the Nameless King and Ornstein's been trying to get a hold of that guy since DS1, but that's going to forever be speculation.

An actually-super-hard AC4 would have been awesome. But supposedly Sega kept forcing the game to be more and more easy because it was the first game on 360, and marketed mostly to america.

This is why AC4/FA also have extremely beefy tutorials and literally gives you some of the best weapons and equipment at the start of the game. It's also the first (and only) game to feature progression-based tuning, so you get tuning points to make yourself stronger by beating bosses, which flies in the face of AC's entire "Anything can work, if you optimize for it" philosophy. Players are objectively worse at early game than late game, even if they use the same equipment.

Basically, imagine Dark Souls except you start the game at SL50 with full Elite Knight's Set +10 and a claymore +5, and Bandai makes the bosses slower and easier to dodge.

Parriers are really easy to kill with Yhorm's, you just backstab them.

Now shieldfags that sprint around you looking for the backstab is a real issue. Shields like the Black Knight Shield can take way too much of a beating before being guard broken, and making players able to backstab with their shield raised was a mistake.

The shockwave at the end of Yhorm's R1 isn't good design though, it makes your bad spacing nearly unpunishable. They should remove this and reduce the stamina consumption of the weapon to balance it out, and make it do more stamina damage to shields when blocked.

I don't think Miyazaki knows how to write stories involving technology, and that's why he has little interest in AC. His AC games were the most ridiculous, dumb, and nonsensical titles in a franchise that is known for putting rocket engines on giant robots. That says a lot.

He ripped off Gundam's GN particle and used it on a remake of Murakumo: Renegade Mech Pursuit. The story of AC4/FA makes no fucking sense, but it undoubtably has the most style and best visuals. Atmosphere is better than some games, worse than others. AC3 probably has the best atmosphere in the franchise, it's better than DS2's atmosphere, for sure.

If you're PC only, yeah it's worth it for all the other games you get. Theres a lot of 360/PS3 games worth playing that never made it to PC.

If you have a 360 already, then it depends on whether or not you like the other PS3 exclusives. A few good ones: Last of Us MGS4, Yakuza 4, Uncharted 1/2/3, Infamous 1/2, Heavy Rain, Ninja Gaiden Sigma.

It's also the only platform with decent armored core multiplayer.

Ignoring DaS2, From improved most every PvE aspect in each successive Soulsborne game outside of level design/interconnectivity.
Dark Souls 1 bosses, now that we look back at them, are mostly bosses with very simple movesets with clear openings. There are some standouts, and those happen to be the best bosses in the game (Artorias, Manus, O&S).

Bloodborne took that and made it better. The best fights have bosses with quick aggressive movesets to keep the pressure up on the player. They took thoughts from the Artorias school of bosses to create the Hunter fights, two of which (Gherman and Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower) are absolutely amazing. The beast bosses have a few problems with awful hitboxes, but it's not a problem that didn't exist with the Gaping Dragon/Kala. The increased speed of the game keeps you on edge constantly, and the introduction of Phase 2 Transformations gives every fight a twist.

DS3 managed to refine this even further. The concept of the "Agile Enemy/Hunter" fight was improved upon with Abyss Watchers, and perfected with Friede. The agile fluid gameplay from BB was converted into rolls, but to compensate many bosses have long combo strings with varying attack timings to catch out roll spammers (Pontiff, Friede, Champ, Dancer and SoC all do this) or super meaty attacks (Oceiros, Nameless King). Nearly every boss has something resembling a P2 to shake up the fight, and for some it's even tied into game mechanics (Embering).

Even the music got better (Best DaS OST<Best BB OST< Best DaS3 OST)

It instantly sets off explosive barrels and sets the oil pools in the gutter on fire. It also is the easiest way to activate RTSR.

It's also pretty damn good at fucking with people in pvp since it hits through shields and rolls and will keep most people from trying to backstab or parry you.

I would say DaS1 had slower bosses to make the game fair, the game is almost a turn based action game. It's rare to get killed by bullshit in DaS1. What I mean by that is that when I die in DaS1, it feels like I fucked up. In DaS3 you get killed by bullshit attacks that are designed to catch you off guard until you know about them.

The music is very subjective. DeS soundtrack is my absolute favourite, I listen to all tracks from it outside the game. I have to pick and choose with the other games, with DaS1 having the best tracks when picked.

Seriously, the amount of hate it got was impressive. It wasn't until later that people started to feel differently.

From the studio's point of view, the game was hated. Why would they continue to use things from a game people didn't seem to like? I think it makes sense that, based on initial/early responses to the game, that they tried to distance 3 from it as much as they could. Maybe they felt like the hate came from it being so different, and then decided to play it safe thinking that that's what people wanted. I don't actually know.

Some bullshit attacks that come to mind: Dancer's first phase fast attack from her left side, Friede's double spin, HA from Abysswatcher's dagger attack. You just can't trust any openings you might see so the possible death from those feels cheap. Of course it's not as bad when you know it coming, but on first playthrough no one will be expecting them. Manus is a DLC boss and the DLC is already designed in a different way than the base game, so I don't think it's a good example. His dark bead is bullshit, yes. The wombo combo is the attack SoC uses when his second phase starts, so it's fitting to call it bullshit.

2. The games do not have a normal story, it's all told through item descriptions and 'lore', do not expect any plot-driving cutscenes or character interactions. However, it's got lots and lots and lots of vague lore.

3. Every number is important. Experiment a lot, the game does not do anything for you and you WILL need to change your play style a lot as you learn more.

4. If the game suddenly seems a lot harder for no reason, you're in the wrong area.

Backstabs and parries in DS1 are so powerful they trivialize any other offensive strategy.

Rolling is so effective in DS3 that it trivializes any other defensive strategy.

Most offensive or defensive strategies in DS2 are still viable without forcing the entire game around them like DS1/DS3. All of DS2's bullshit relies on the opponent making a mistake or not knowing what they're doing because of that. Even poise builds are still viable, though the most difficult to really pull off.

Chromehounds is the only decent multiplayer game From has ever made. Maybe ACVD.

No, it doesn't. They're one and the same. Invasions happening less frequently means they are worse than the first game.

Even if we somehow ignore that concept, they're still worse because the areas are worse. There's nowhere in DS2 that's like sens, tomb or the forest in terms of potential fun invasions, every area is just a bunch of hallways and there's so many bonfires that the second anyone is invaded they can just run back to it & camp, which then turns things into either a shitty duel in a cramped area or a sudden summon gangbang where all the phantoms can easily heal

You need a weapon art shield (the one with the sword icon), Need to be moving in any direction while holding the shield up, then press L2 and R2 at basically the same time but L2 needs to be ~1 frame earlier. It's difficult to get the timing down but eventually you can get the muscle memory for it.

I like DS2, but fuck some of the changes SOTFS made. Putting an NPC invader in Forest of Fallen Giants with lategame weapons and spells as well as impossibly high HP is just retarded, especially in a game where you can never avoid invasions. Sure, if you'd played through all of DS2 before playing SOTFS you can probably beat him, but a new player is just going to get frustrated, especially if they hit the bonfire in the area without killing him and end up practically stuck there, because simply lighting a bonfire sets it as your respawn point and he'll just keep invading over and over. Flooding Heide's Tower of Flame with Heide Knights was shitty, too. I don't care about the lore or whatever, it's just bad gameplay. DS2 introduces you to Heide Knights similarly to DS1's Black Knights and they fit that role well. SOTFS sticks a dozen of them in the Tower area and lets a new player think they're docile, but if you kill Dragonrider before Old Dragonslayer, have fun faggot because now you have to cut your way through all of them on top of all the giant knights also in the area, and then you have to fight a lategame dragon boss as a normal enemy outside the Cathedral of Blue. Don't even think about being clever and using its fire breath to get rid of some of the Heide Knights for you, because it barely does any damage to them. It kills you from full health for sure though! The "hardest game ever" meme was at its worst in SOTFS. It's not fun, it's not satisfying to overcome, it's not even logical, it's just a meat grinder of a game.

In general, most of the decisions made in DS2 were to prompt more experimentation and exploration by the players, as well as making more mechanics combat-specific instead of story/immersion specific.

Here's a few detailed explanations off the top of my head:

>Branching linear paths let them fit more bosses and level variety in without gimping progression by making every level crammed with 4 bosses. Souls works on a treadmill system, so if you put detail too much in one area, it will chug or require loading times (aka, BB, which had that issue at launch). Linear paths works best, and DS2 is basically structured like 4 copies of DS3 all laid out next to each other because of that. The lack of intertwined levels and shortcuts is what allows them to have so many bosses and levels without breaking the load times or taking forever to develop.

They give you a ton of souls in the game and you can level up really easily compared to the others. You start the DLCs at around lvl 140-150, which is almost double of DaS1 or DaS3. My guess is that, since you level up pretty fast in the early game and they split VIT and END, they wanted to accentuate build variety immediately. For example, just finishing the tutorial and beating Dragonrider is enough to take a clear direction in your build. If you don't have a lot of AGL, you can instead focus on END and VIT, so you can block more and have more armor/stamina regen, and having plenty of souls early on makes it so that you're not super gimped as long as you make that choice clearly and quickly. In DaS1, where you could be tanky early game, in DaS2 you have the choice of being a "super tank" immediately, where you could even sacrifice all the iframes you'd normally have in fatrolls for DaS1 for more stats in defense/health/block/stamina. But of course, the big problem is that they don't explain shit about AGL and they didn't make starting classes with very high AGL.

To avoid early game twinks from having godly rolls without some compromise somewhere else. Same reason why attunement raises agility, attunement is the stat that requires the most game progress to fully utilize, so it's the least likely to be twinked out on. Because all dark souls games punish people for being slow and impatient. It's like a vendor mimic. The second vender exists in case you kill the first one.

Because invasions were probably the worst part of the game experience for a lot of first time players, and they were trying to distance them from the lagstab giantdad stereotype as fast as possible.

Because most of those "issues" were things that other people were glad they got rid of from DS1. SOTFS made most areas more accessible by moving keys and shards, but then used statues so that they weren't all accessible at the same time. Same reason they added a bunch more ascetics and NG+ items and such, to make you think more carefully about where you use the items. Makes it easier to reach certain areas faster (no gutter drop to get to shaded woods early) but harder to try and explore everything at once without committing to a single path.

It's really obvious -why- they did some of these things. It's just not always clear if it worked out or if they could have done it better.
