actually holy is great. I normally go holy/prot, holy/ret works as well - honestly any spec works as you are going to have a boring time leveling anyhow, pve wise.
The anti-pushback is great as well as efficient heals, crit heal, and consecrate even after the fix doesn't suck once you have enough mana and is still decent for 3+mobs (not sure of actual math so could be wrong).
Ret does kill shit faster 1v1 but points in holy/prot let you pull multiple mobs with adjusting seals as necessary and very little if any downtime. Plus pts in prot are a lot better for pvp (just my opinion) as half your life as a paladin is being kited and even just guardians favor does wonders. You'd want engineering no matter what anyhow.
At 34 you can meme it up with reckoning and even that is faster than ret. Plus assuming you're juking interrupts, pts in holy/prot make you ridiculously annoying to gank and you're still switching to a 2hander to smash wizards anyway.

But even with all of that typed out, paladin is interesting (or very not interesting) in that the spec isn't terribly important for straight up leveling - anything below elite group quests won't be any danger at all as long as you play conservative and your gear pre 60 determines what you'll be doing more than the spec (as in just wearing int gear to heal the 5mans regardless of your spec). Paladin trees are one of the few you can fuck up in a lot and it won't matter pre 60.

According to their twitter account they've already raised the cap 3 times since it opened but it's 12k people playing with another 7k in queue, not good enough.
