When it gets right down to it, and people put aside their personal nostalgia of playing the later titles (let's be honest, very few people outside of Japan started with anything Pre-FE7), FE4 is the epitome of a good Fire Emblem game. It's true though. Like every game I've seen considered a "must-buy" according to 3DS owners ends up being called total shit by other 3DS owners. Awakening, Bravely Default, the 3DS Pokemon titles etc, people bag on them all the time. Fire Emblem is too easy of a guess for another Nintendo warriors, especially after Zelda. And there's not much of a way to make it distinct without taking so much from it (both series use medieval weaponry etc) and Zelda's much more fantasy-like in its elements so it's easier to design around it, whereas Fire Emblem is a little more grounded in how it approaches these concepts (magic and dragons and shit)

Conquest's issue is that it's not even that. If it was literally siding with the evil asshole king to crush Hoshido into the dust and picking your adoptive family over your bloodline family, it would have been much better than what we got.

Instead we have the main character keep blubbering about his/her beloved Hoshido even as he slaughters everyone from it and constantly backstabs his/her own side whenever possible.

Throw in all the other stupidity like your evil asshole king being so completely flat and boring as a character compared to every other evil emperors in the series, SLIME TIME, and once the dust settles literally taking the country you finished conquering and tearing apart and handing it back to their own royal family, and the end result is complete garbage.

I'd be fine if he backstabbed his own side whenever possible, the real problem with conquest is that it takes 20 goddamn chapters to start actively working against Garon to stop him, and Corrin spends the intervening time just sort of not doing anything but letting his own side commit atrocities and cry about it.
