Orphan is very much dead. Gehrman, Maria an pals accidentally killed it when checking out dead Kos (or some say Kosm). Dead child great one creates a portal/way into the nightmare dimension and a new layer to the nightmare dimension. And that bullshit about the dream is the reason you respawn in 'The Hunters Dream'. OoK basically died in the real world, but died when the ritual unknowingly took place, and it continued a half existence of pure pain in the nightmare. The unknown ritual is 'The bottomless curse from the bottomless sea' in the cutscene after killing its shadow.

Jap hunter is for killing for fashionable gear. Also his mumblings is confirmation for the main theory/reason why the DLC exists

Brador used to assassinate/kill the first cleric beasts of the church when they were babby sized, imitating them in his armour to keep the peace. However as they grew, he couldn't hide it any more and had to go public. At that point, he kinda had a headstart on all the other hunters when it came to killing beasts/people before they became beasts (think Amelia pre-battle) so he went blood addled early (Combined with the fact his weapon is based on blood, no surprise) and killed himself in the waking/real world. He is speculated to have been the first real hunter in the nightmare and spent most of his time alone until he locked himself into a cell, alone for all eternity

it's not a brag either btw. I'm actually pretty upset. This is probably my all time favourite series, and it just doesn't feel difficult at all anymore. The only thing that killed me i think more than 3 times in my entire playthrough was Gascoine and Winter Lanterns

The DLC was fucking fantastic, it's SO much content, the environments are amazing, loads of new weapons, the transformation runes, the straight up horror of it all - but the bosses just went down so easy and it made it feel empty. I'd heard so so much about Orphan of Kos, and Laurence and they just went down in less than 5 vials.

I dont know what to do now really. I'm still in love with the series but without a challenge it just feels hollow.

You learn to deal with it, most people here run through FRC dungeons for the best gems and they all cut you HP in half. 40-50 Vit should be able to not get one-shotted by most attacks, stuff like a Hotdog's charge and Amy's stomp will still one-shot you though. Each boss in Defiled can be beaten easily without taking a hit.

If it's PvE only then there's no need to waste your time farming dungeons, go to Fishing Hamlet's second lamp and farm those Winter Lanters for 22% droplets.
Autism gems are only needed for PvP but if you insist anyways get the glyph in the OP for Shotgun Watchers 31% circle gems, one for Chikage and one for Evelyn, then farm Merciless Watchers for 27%s and put two on Chikage and three on Bloodletter.
You can also go full korean and farm off shapes for five 31% gems

Basically a Str/Arc build, which are common and definitely worth it. 25/50 Str/Arc is ideal for Toni and a Bolt Kirk. Cruel Fate is the best starter for it.

Defiled Pthu cuts your HP by 50% but everything else is also scaled in kind (with the exception of enemy NPC hunters, to mimic human enemy hunters, anyway).

Some attacks will OHKO you but many won't. Bosses are scaled more-or-less like they would be on NG+ compared to 1500HP; that is, shit that would OHKO through 1500HP on NG+ will OHKO you through 800HP in a Cursed chalice, and stuff that won't, generally, won't. It's pretty fair and an easy challenge to rise to once you get used to it

What's your overall opinion on blood vials? A lot of people shit on them and prefer something like estus.
I used to hate it but after I finished my first playthrough they kinda grew on me, I kinda like the vial/grass systems.

So if you go big with 99 arc, no End, rest in Vit, you can oneshot most enemies in the game, including some bosses with A Call Beyond, Blacksky Combo. Tiny Ton is also a thing for you if you still wanna be Thor
The price for this near unlimited power is a weak earlygame and having to Bloodbullet after every attack
as well as being a pure glass cannon. Runes=+15% Stam, +5 blood bullet cap, (PvE) Viscerals restore Blood Bullets (PvP) +4 blood bullet cap

Its a case of go big or go home. Some anons can't live with >50 Vit and go to the Reddit meta. Some anons think its too hard. But when it starts to come together, and you take out the earlygame Cleric Beast you saved for this event in a few shots before he reaches you.

Bloodborne's lamp placement and decision to give you 20 bv's at the start (and drop more throughout) encourages you to clear the whole level in one go
the only downside is having to grind for vials if you get stuck, but if you have lecture hall at least unlocked the farming isn't bad at all
estus eliminates farming, but starting off with so few can result in the player just sprinting to the next bonfire once they run out of estus

is it worth it to put one of those scaling gems in threaded cane to give it S scaling or should i go for a 27 % gem instead?

The earliest you can get Bolt gems from the main game is, IIRC, Nightmare Frontier, nd they won't be very strong (6-9% IIRC), and will come by default in Waning, for which the Kirkhammer doesn't have a slot. Moreover, most of the game's enemies are weaker to Fire.

So getting the build off the ground will take time.

However, Tonitrus on a 25/50 can gave one of the highest ARs in the game, and Kirkhammer has great arcane scaling and also converts very well. You can expect an end-game AR of about 710: more than adequate.

Finally got a PS4 and Bloodborne. I know I need PS+ for chalice dungeons and all online play. Usually in the past after a souls game has been out for a while (I think we are approaching the 2 year mark in March), the online play dies down a bunch. You can only find reliable invasions/coop in certain areas at very specific soul level, as opposed to when one gets first released and there are summons and invasions everywhere. Anyways has the community died down? Is PS+ as garbage as people say? I'm not really playing any other online game on the PS4 at the moment, either.

I've seen the hammer/chains Undead Giant cancel out of his triple pound, and Rom (chalice version, at least) will sometimes call down another wave of magic comets before the first one has even finished casting.

I think I've seen chalice Amydgala do it as well, but the camera in the dungeon boss room is so fucked that you can't very well see what's going on when you're up close so I may be mistaken.

You can lock on to him outside the arena from various places in the dream, like next to the Nightmare awakening stone or by the bushes near the fog gate. You can chuck firebombs at him by the door of the house and CFB him at the bushes. I already tried to kill him outside and restocked bullets to get like 30 CFBs off on him, which is plenty enough to kill, but I don't think you can. Although, after attacking him outside, he immediately begins the fight with his numbing mist cum animation when you enter. Pretty interesting.
