Personally I'd use the record player. It might come across as too modern for a cabin room but it still has a vintage enough appearance to fit the overall feel.

Otherwise, a turntable might be your best option if you want it to match appearance wise. A jukebox may fit as well if you're going for a sort of rec. hall feel for your cabin room, but it may come across as too flashy.

It's been a few years since I've played and I don't want to experience the heart break that I did with City Folk where I came back to an aged town. I haven't had the cartridge in, does the game still age? Is there anything I can do before putting it in to stop it from aging? I don't want to lose my deer friend and my sheep grandma, please help me

After an extended break at most only one villager will have moved out. Possibly even none of them if no one was flagged to move since you quit.

Plus fixing up an aged town is no issue now. If you're updated no one will have moved over paths, weed pulling is like 20 minutes at most and rafflesias are basically impossible to get now.

First thing you need to do is make a new save file before starting any character at all. Run around and make sure all of your villagers are still there. Go in houses to make sure they aren't in boxes just to be safe. If no one is missing than you're good to jump right back in.

If someone is missing you need to go back in time to the last date you played. If you can't remember when that was then pick an impossible date in the past like 2012 or something. It's important to remember any amount of time traveling backwards only counts as one day forward. After you do that make a new file again and make sure the missing villager is still there AND not in boxes. If they're here, load your mayor, get the ping, and tell them not to fucking move. After that immediately time travel back to the present while the game still has it recognized as no one planning to move out.

But if you do go back that far and the villager happens to be in boxes then you might have a problem. This means the villager was planning to move the very next day after you stopped playing. The only way to prevent this is to find the exact day you last played and stop them there.

If a villager has rare furniture that's not easily replaced, and they ask me to get them a replacement but don't ask me to get them a specific piece, I just ignore their request. If they ask me to get a specific piece, then I get them whatever, because they'll give you the furniture they're replacing, and you can save it and give it back to them later.

Well with the holidays over I guess its time to start dismantling my happy christmas room. Gonna need lots of meow coupons and Rover scannings just to get the new room style underway.
