If you can just get caps, then you can use a couple vendors with 100 in Repair instead of investing points into it yourself. Means you have to take trips to get your stuff repaired, but saves you skill points. As far as Science goes, people generally pick either Lockpick or Science. Up to you if you want to get both, though, since they're not always interchangeable.

These content centric boards are supposed to be about the games they're named after.

The posts in tesg are literally about what the character, whhich is being used as an avatar so people know who is posting, had for dinner.

SO discussing what happened to the dwemer is fine discussion. Discussing what your character had for dinner is not.

If tesg had a separate chatroom or discord or something like that where their characters can talk to each other about what they had for sinner, and then used the thread to discuss the actual game, like new mods or how the game is affected by new other game releases like eso and stuff like that, everything would be fine.

NMC is probably the best overall texture pack. Poco Beuno is also good too; I just prefer NMC. Ignore FCO like the plague. The vanilla faces might be bad, but unless you want everyone to have the exact same face (and one which is covered in shadows), don't bother. I personally use a combination of Hall of Face and New Vegas Character Expansions (the latter makes NPCs look more like their ingame descriptions/playing card depictions)

Not my area of expertise honestly. I'm fine with NV's gunplay. There are a few animation replacers/tweaks out there. I guess Project Nevada, but it's too tacticool for me.

JSawyer and YUP, as well as being general gameplay enchancers and bug fixers, also restore some cut content. You'll also want to look into New Vegas Uncut, Freeside/The Strip open and Uncut Wasteland. So I just completed the Battle for Hoover Dam for Mr. House, and I'm fucking pissed cause I looted the Ballistic Fist off the Praetorian Guards and was thinking that it was awesome cause now I have an amazing weapon. Only to find the game ends and you can't continue the save. I thought it'd be like Skyrim where you beat the mainquest and can still do DLCs after.

Is it worth playing the DLCs unmodded? I was thinking of making a new character with mods, the one I played with had only the bug fixers. I say this mainly because I hated how all the Unarmed perks required Melee, and vice versa.

For play order, go Honest Hearts first because it has the least impact on the other three DLCs. Then complete the rest in release order, around their appropriate level brackets.

Nah, not really. T51 looks more advanced but the t45 looks like the M4A1 sherman and the t60 looks like the M4A3E2 sherman jumbo varant

The T45/60 looks like they could be stamped or cast and they look to be just straight steel plating with some aluminum bits

So get some +CHM drugs and some +CHM armor, go to your second most populated settlement, do the drugs, wear the armor, and charm everyone into moving to Sanctuary. They'll stay there regardless of how low your Charisma drops to after the drugs wear off and you get back into your combat gear as long as you don't tell them to leave.

If you are going for a survivalist run, I highly recommend it because I can't imagine F:NV / TTW without it. New Save file required if you want to try it out.

If you want a DLC sized quest mod, http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/46907/? is surprisingly good. It's still made by 'amateurs' but the level design, story, voice acting is top tier at most points.

Stay away from mods like AWOP and Willow, despite being highly rated on the nexus. AWOP adds boring corridors stuffed with way too many mobs around the wasteland in the guise of 'more things to explore'. Ultimately, it'll bloat and destroy your save file for little fun. Willow is a companion mod that features some fat cunt shitty voice acting, a hello kitty necklace and cringe worthy waifu'ism. That being said, the technical level of the mod is flawless.

This way it fixes one of the biggest problems the minigun has...the shit tier accuracy. It actually fires 16 bullets per shot but I'm going to lower that to 9 or 10 for balance reasons, and also keeping the game from lagging on debris settings / audio issues when firing at water.

One final thing I'm gonna do balance wise is make the laser sight an actual scope and give it a unique ability when you zoom in. The firing cone will get waaaaay more accurate, but zooming in will also lower the firing rate. Kinda like a high accuracy mode so you don't waste your ammo on far away targets....I think FO4's weapon system can make an addon do that anyway.

They'd be synths, and the robotic workstation would be redesigned to look more like a miniature Institute synth crafting facility.

And the recipes would be something like 20 deathclaw meat (for the DNA), 2 deathclaw hands, 60 bone (for dem bones), and 10 synth control chips (for the STOP KILLING ME factor), to make 1 friendly essential deathclaw companion that you can outfit in armor and also weapons like titanium claw gauntlets.

I'm gonna headcanon the barrels being made from space age materials so it can spin fast, be lightweight, and be accurate at 40% less weight. But at 2x barrels. That said, I think I'm gonna decide the base weight based on each of the new parts.

So vanilla minigun = 28 pounds

All plant life, except in very remote areas, would have been burnt away in nuclear firestorms that would have quickly spread across most of the country due to the sheer number of nukes that went off all over the place.

Especially on the east coast where there are tons of cities packed into a small area.

Plant life would have only really survived i nthe west coast because it has far fewer major population centers, what few it has are far more spread out, and huge portions of the west are barren desert to begin with, so there would be little to burn anyways

Makes it feel more real then the GTA world of "its obvious all these NPCs do is walk around the block 30 times a day" worlds.

I would much rather have the scaled down representations of cities then overly bloated messes like a GTA city, or even Vivec/The Imperial City, where you spend more time walking to some place then actually doing SOMETHING quest related.

That is actually the one thing I prefer GTA 3 and Vice City for over the newer games. The maps were small as shit, but you could at least GET soemwhere and DO something in a reasonable amount of time.

From San Andreas on they pad the game out so much with cardboard buildings you spend more time driving to a mission then actually doing missions.

They already fucked up in the beginning by giving your player character a set history with a wife and kid. On top of that, you can't be a complete scumbag in this game. At worst you can be sarcastic or mildly upset. And Nuka World don't really fix that problem for me.

Video game devlopers have always seen like skill/stat checks as nothing more then crtuches for technological limitations that no longer exist in modern games, so they have no reason to put them in expect when it comes to speech, and a small handful of other things they don't have the time/budget to directly implement into the game via something like a minigame

That's not really a good comparison.

The quality of an RPG is determined by how meaningful its choices/checks are.

Old RPGs had meaningful choices/stat checks because they were so abstracted, and HAD to be abstracted due to technology, that thier checks and shit were based off of an actual NEED to do it that way.

With modern game technology, that need is basically gone, and attempting to do the same things as older RPGs would be bad because it would no longer be necessary, it would ust be an artificial gimp.

for instance, older RPGs needed shit like perception checks to spot traps/hidden walls/secret buttons, because graphics were so bad they simply couldn't be added into the actual graphics. This graphical limitation actually made perception checks mean something.

Nowadays graphics are so developed that its piss easy for developers to put things like traps, hidden buttons, and secret walls into the game world directly. And trying to make just those things invisible unless you have 8 perception or w/e would be nothing more then an artificial gimp because it would be inconsistent with the rest of the game.

At that point, a perception check stops being a logical and meaningful necessity like in older RPGs, and becomes nothing more then an illogical and inconstant gimping.

The same is true of things like knowledge checks where, in older games, you needed to have 9INT or w/e to pass a knowledge check, because there wasn't this vast array of books and notes and shit to learn information from like in modern games.

However, since modern games DO have those things, 99% of INT checks have become pointless and illogical because you can always ask the question of "why can't I just learn this from reading a book/note/terminal entity"

That's why most every RPG has no checks anymore outside of speech checks. They got rid of them because it no longer makes sense to have them.

The stat/skill checks are the watery cheese in this case. We are not at the point where you *feel* more powerful or capable as you level in a videogame. Stats/skills/whatever is literally the only language that translates well there.

To be honest with you, none of it is exciting and certainly none of it is good. It's not where we want to be. The only way I think a contemporary AAA rpg can be interesting is through story (Sublime levels of intricacy and interweaving options and branches, and I mean sublime, looking at it should make you cry) and excellent art direction (minimizing immersion breaking, or any kind of aesthetically wrong goofiness and concentration on a feeling of a living breathing place. Beth is kicking goals only in this department, it's not enough).

We just can't get what the old stat checks used to do for us in terms of building a narrative for our characters adventures. I think it fundamentally doesn't work in a 3d rpg, the only times I see it sort-of working is when the PC is severely underpowered and has to use environment, items and timing to only just survive constantly. Souls games and Dust/Frost.
That's a very particular type of gameplay though, shouldn't RPG's have more scope than that?

Never understood why perception didn't mean the difference between walking to a room and having the details of a secret door or trap instantly visible and having it faintly transluscent to slowly more opaque as you stood at the threshold looking into the space.

In OLD WORLD BLUES, when you have the Auto-doc do the mental evaluation to choose new traits, does it take away the traits you chose at the beginning of the game and give you new ones or do you keep them and just choose more to add on? I only ask because it states that you get to re-choose them or something to that effect but one of my original traits was Skilled, which gave me +5 to all skills, but when I picked it a second time it actually added 5 more on top of the original 5 points I had received from the first time. Is this how it is supposed to work with any of the others or is it some kind of glitch?

To be perfectly honest, games that try to do that are often some of the ones that bore me the most.

In making a story like that, developers almost always end up shoehorning everyone and their grandmother into some kind of cartoon level meta-conspiracy plot that doesn't actually make sense or reflect how a believable world works.

99% of the shit you do logically wouldn't have any real effect on the other quests/shit in the game, and thus shouldn't in order to maintain immersion.

That's a bug (more like exploit) unique to Skilled.

The skill increases isn't exactly part of the trait itself, but more like an effect of gaining the trait. The trait is basically only the experience reduction.

You can exploit this for 15 skill points in every skill If you take it at the start in Doc Mitchel's house, take it again when you leave Goodsprings, and once more with the Autodoc.

To answer your question, the evaluation lets you change your traits, not add new ones, but the residual effects of certain traits, like Skilled, persist when you retake them, or replace them with something else.

I think Wild Wasteland also has some strange interaction. You have to take it from the start if you want some of the changes to the world (like the UFO spawning or the Holy Hand Grenades) to happen. If you remove it, those changes will still be there, but other interactions (Like Securitons quoting Robocop) won't happen without it since those aren't set in stone world changes and just instanced checks for the trait.

I got the winged deathclaws now CK friendly...turns out I forgot to do one little thing on the skininstance in nifskope...I spent hours trying to fix one problem that was actually a two second fix. I guess even people with hundreds of hours of experience on this shit can still make simple mistakes, lol.

The chances of this being on Xbox, for anyone concerned about that, just went up dramatically. I normally wouldnt have bothered but I know some of you are forced to play the console versions due to bad luck and hard times...and I know what it feels like to be there.

Chances of this coming out tomorrow-ish are pretty high now. I'm gonna put like 6-7 of these 2x scaled winged deathclaws in the area, and a few dozen normal sized ones. It shall be the ultimate challenge. Unless you bring your Nuka-Nukes I guess. I think I'll give each of the giant winged deathclaws 20,000 or 30,000 health. Maybe more, maybe less.

Because you're using NMM for New Vegas. Use Mod Organizer. Or FOMM or whatever. NMM has trouble installing things. The neat thing about MO is that you don't have to overwrite anything, and you can have a load order for texture packs if you want one to overwrite another. Switch now before you put more time into it.

Be best not to use that "fix" mod, other anon. It has a very bad habit of completely fucking up Radio New Vegas, most commonly sending Mr. New Vegas into an endless loop.

Don't use the GNR mod for that exact same reason.

Freedom Radio is good, includes all tracks from GNR anyway. Conelrad ofc. Existence is good if you want creepy ambience. Old World Radio has a huge number of surprisingly functional and good radio stations. Enclave Radio is alright, and if you use that big Enclave mod it's included with it anyway.

Why is this considered the 'bad' DLC?
just finished it and I must say, while it's not nearly as entertaining as OWB, it was still a whale of a time. It looked gorgeous, the quests were fun and the writing was some of the best I've ever seen anywhere.
Haven't gotten to DM or LR yet, but I hear they're also pretty great
Is that its biggest crime, that it just isn't as good as the other DLC's? or is it something else that makes it bad?
