Playing through the game for the first time, I've got to admit:

My favorite thing about it is the fact that you can talk to so many Yharnam people and really see the whole place become a mess. I'd actually love for there to be more chatting in the game, given its refined nature.

They're a part of the game not connected to the "main plot", that offers probably the most challenging gameplay, and best loot.

Just sell shitty gems or use them as hand-me-downs. Whenever I get a better gem, I slot it in my main weapon, and put the one I was using into my side weapons.

Chalices are basically side dungeons. The ones without root in the game have "story" attached to them, as well as trophies. You usually get the next chalice by completing the one you are in. Leave the chalice and make the next one.

The ones with root in the names are randomized ones. Ignore those ones for now. Once you get the later ones, that is where you find all the best runes and gems.

I usually put them on different altars, just in case I missed something and need to go back for it. Once they are all filled up, feel free to start replacing them.

Min-max is short for minimum-maximum

You want the minimum amount of points in stats that you are not using, so that you can get the maximum amount in the ones you will.

It doesn't matter which one starts with higher str if you are raising str, because they can all get to 50. What matter is which one has the lowest Arc, for example. Why? Because an extra point in Arc that you will never use could have been spent in Vit, Str, End, etc instead.

To answer your original question, here's the best advice:
Pure bloodtinge build - pick military vet so you can wield bloodletter + bowblade nicely
Bloodtinge/skill build with arcane tools - pick noble scion
Everything else - pick cruel fate

Cruel fate has the lowest bloodtinge because unless you're going for 50 bloodtinge, guns are shit and do weak damage, and are best kept for parrying

Only Redditfags want to have powerful guns on top of everything else (hence their 150 meta) or convince themselves a 22 blt evelyn is worthwhile

Took me about six hours to kill the Orphan the first time I got to him. It was quite an experience. I must have died easily thirty times because I found myself getting so aggravated I got sloppy and he wiped me all over the beach before I could even land a hit.

It's better to ask for help and set a pass than to find randoms. Since there's no way to tell if there are summons/summoners, most people don't ring outside of dungeons. Some areas like the DLC would probably have better luck
