She’s become a lot more considerate of her friends since her first appearance in DR1. Other survivors like Asahina and Togami have grown up too, but this is one of my favorite points about DR3. If you watch DR3 and then look back on DR1, you can clearly tell the difference. In the latter half I wanted to write Kirigiri in relation to Naegi the way I wrote Yukizome in regards to Munakata. I particularly liked the scene where she took her glove off to hold Naegi’s hand, and the scene where she decides to move forward even after Kizakura dies before her eyes.

The cheerful Asahina is the moodmaker of DR3. Since DR1, she’s grown into a reliable young woman, though she still gets a little wrapped up in her wrong impressions. She made such a good combo with Monomi that it made me wonder what SDR2 would have been like if she’d been in it. Besides taking up the mantle of the sexy character, she really is the one who sets the mood. The reason she’s the only one in a different branch is because she’s a sporty type her senpai could rely on. Because her senpai couldn’t make it, it was decided that Asahina would go in their place.

Her concept was…pretty much what you saw in the final product. Because she controls Monomi, she got much cuter. I personally really like her design. It’s the look of a cute girl who doesn’t talk, a design that you can be satisfied with even after you later hear she’s a robot. Unfortunately she got stuck with a name that doesn’t roll off the tongue, but it seemed to match with her euphonic design, so we went with it.

He was designed to be Chairman Tengan’s bodyguard, but in the actual anime they spend most of their time apart… I’ve always wanted to use a SHSL Wrestler character. Since animation is a medium that uses motion, he was put to use here. Like Sakakura as a boxer, these fighting-type characters were chosen for the anime because the games use mainly static images. “Gozu” comes directly from the Japanese word. We felt it sounded both creepy but protective.

Since the Future Foundation isn’t just a fighting organization but also one that has sections dedicated to securing food sources, we decided to have a former SHSL Farmer character. His design was decidedly based on Uncle [redacted]. In my scenario there was a scene where Bandai was plowing a huge field, but circumstances forced me to cut it, despite my tears… It was Higa P’s idea to give him a cute voice that didn’t match his appearance. We chose a…pretty bluntly toy-like name for his surname. For his first name he wanted to give off the impression of a farmer–I think it works, at least.

It's a symbol. I always suspected the SHSL that left Hope Peak were tracked down by the Ultimate Despair, just like the Togami family, so the one left in DR1 are the last still alive.

And then DR2 showed up that Hope Peak Academy isn't above petty bullying and harassment, that they did human experiment, and then DR3 showed Hope as a second-rate scrub.
