Honestly I think stuff like the Sonic Man issue will be the norm for at least a while. Issue 300 and the aftermath will be a big thing, but otherwise it seems like we'll be doing a lot of self contained stuff. Hell, even Universe is going the whole one and done route with the current arc. If anything, the FF arc will be like Shadow Saga: a series of loosely connected stories with a central theme to them

Shadow was just a spinoff. Even then the gameplay was mostly fine, it obviously gets most of its shit for the edgy bullshit. You also knew what you wound get out of it.

06 was a main game which hyped up people's expectations, anniversary game and made to be a big deal, which ended up being straight broken and having very little redeeming features.

The true dark age started with the Saturn, since we only had 3D Blast and R, and X-treme got cancelled. While the Adventure games were decent, the pressure to recover from the Saturn era, both for Sonic and Sega in general, meant they put everything into making Adventure a mass-market hit that appealed to as many people as possible instead of carving out a specific identity and fleshed-out gameplay for Sonic only. That lack of a good foundation then significantly contributed to Heroes, Shadow and 06 turning out the way they did.

I see Tails as the Luigi for their whole player 2 status. Knuckles could either be the Yoshi for "third buddy" or the Wario for "strong treasure hunter and rival". However, Shadow could also be the Wario since they're both "anti-hero rivals".
I've always see Silver being the Waluigi since they both started out as the most hated characters who are now divisive.

I have actually been buying Sonic comics for ages. I got issue 0 off the rack at Walden books when I was about ten or eleven. It's a good memory too because I didn't have the money for it so my dad bought it for me. I loved it but didn't get out often and didn't buy an issue again till over a year later when I got issue 18. I know I didn't start buying the comics on a regular basis till after the End Game thing but I did order a whole hell of a lot of back issues. So now along with Issues 0 and 18 I also own every issue from 30 onword up to the present. I even have all the various specials and the all the issues of Knuckles too. Given I was a teenager when those came out so I thought they were good. Given looking back now I see what a mess that whole thing was but back then I had no idea of the politics going on at Archie or that there was even really any problems between comic and game continuity. But since I am gone for weeks on end because of my job I have my local comic shop pull the comics I want and they hold them for me till I get home again. I like the story times here so I can have a digital copy to take with me on the road so I don't have to worry about damaging my physical copies in my travels.
