He has plenty of deductive instincts (he still does some regular detective work, he's good at solving mystery novels while reading them, he correctly figures out a lot of the PT just from the police's profiling of them), and it's because of a gut feeling that he ultimately ends up figuring out something was up with Joker's death.

The PT took a bunch of precautions to minimaze the chances of Goro noticing anything off for the fake death trick (making sure the area looks the same, ensuring he'd leave the palace without heading outside, making sure no cognitive existence aside from Joker and the guard is around for him to run into while in the palace, etc), and Shidou flat-out admits to exploiting the fact he's still a kid to use praise to string him along.

Funnily enough, her first two or three ranks were some of the most boring stuff in the game. Ichiko shines the most in her personal arc and how that ties into things with Shidou, IMO. As a romance option she's not that great, but her co-op adds a bit to the main story (and gets you what's easily the most blatant clue toward Shidou's involvement if you finish it early enough).

Both her and Sadayo's co-op start off weak but get good once their personal arc really kicks off, but Sadayo holds up a lot better overall like you said.
