Wither CwC Bladefall is nice... in theory. Gameplay was very smooth but lacking in damage. CwC basically replaces Echo with a damage bonus to boot and Wither costing 0-mana with an Elreon ring allows for a vastly different tree. Might revisit the build later if I ever get a Scourge for poison double dipping but it's too underwhelming while leveling.

Alright I can't do melee life builds anymore and HC is breaking my asshole raw so I am going to use this league to learn ES on shit crow (never played anything but life).

I have a 3ex budget to work with and no understanding of ES mechanics (other than if I get hit I can get stun locked) and that vaal pact is nice.

basically it's staying the fuck out of the way, but with vaal discipline and the high damage from your totems it should be enough to clear breaches fast and safely. I personally run self cast flameblast, it has less survivability because you have to stand still and charge it up yourself but higher damage so you clear most shit before it even appears.

Totems work the same way except you have slightly less damage (still very high) but you can run the fuck out of danger without having to deal with killing things yourself.

keep in mind that the FB totem playstyle is shit till you have enough cast speed and wont be SSS tier till you spend a little (like 1 ex tops) on gear. So you'll have to power through that initial ramp up time.

Any breach lord besides tul will be a breeze.

picking up good ilvl whites is only worth it at ilvl 84 and barely sells for a chaos once the league is a week old. don't do it unless you're going to craft.

ilvl matter to some extent but is neglect able if you dont know what you're doing, they actually mean the specific base of the item. For example a dagger has a few different bases as seen here http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Daggers some of these bases are 'better' because they have higher base stats or better distribution. For example, there are 'spell' daggers that have high base crit % at the cost of attack speed, which makes them good for crit builds since they don't need the attack speed. While other daggers like the skean have a high attack speed which makes them the best base for movement skills or attack speed builds.

Loot filters like neversinks color code the good bases and will make it easier for you to learn what is good and what isnt.

There is a 6-8 hour minimum window of leveling a build to merciless, even before maps. This is for a good player who knows how to level. That doesn't not include planning which can be hours.

The issue that started this was:

It is fun... once you have played a few different builds and learned basic mechanics enough for it to be actually worth it. Your opportunity costs are horse shit until you have a good grasp of the mechanics (including the shittily documented ones).

The best way to get this knowledge is to play builds someone who knows what they are doing have done it, it has passed peer-review with the community, and you can see it scale in person.

I had no fucking idea what I was doing playing spectral throw on release, or ground slam, or t-shot, or ele blender, or ES, or how lightning coil worked but I was introduced to all the skills and passives that were meta through... precompiled builds.

Then I could go make my own. Which still isn't always the most enjoyable thing, it's subjective. Unless you are a friendless neckbeard loser who wants to miff 6-8 hours worth of character progression and economy fucking up when you should be reading things that actually work first.


There is a lot of information to digest, especially for newer players who haven't been here since release. Or don't want streamers bullshit. Or don't watch GGG skill gem previews and start theory crafting things like losers (most of the Western world).

Why is my build nowhere close to these numbers off a similar build I found?

I'm not LL so I can't run as many auras, and my gear isn't quite as good, but my "Main Hand Physical Damage" is only about 1/8 of this, with similar crit chance and damage.

I'm not dual wielding scourge, but I'm using one scourge and a 40% dark seer so I'm still getting a global 110% increase, instead of a 140% increase. Add Lion's Roar, that's another 30% increase.

The 21/20 gems must be huge, because even with conc effect, buffs, some future jewels, and factoring in the Lion's Roar I don't have yet I'm still only at about 35% of his phys roll. The real issue is shit like Vaal Pact making you invincible except to burst damage like he took. The only way to make the game challenging and to actually kill people is by insane burst as long as Vaal Pact exists.

But inquisitor is picked because its go fast. You get the aspd and you move pretty much exclusively with movement skills and not runnign around. You get to ignore ele resists so you dont need the pen gem, you get increased crit chance and crit multiplier against enemies.

Sure you can go raider and have fun, but you will hit a wall faster than with inquisitor and go slower as well.

Immune to status ailments is another fail map mod for you that Inquisitors don't really care about since they never really lose an entire link for no reason.

Inquisitors get 34% cast speed plus 3x4% from frenzy charges, 46% or 11 frenzy charges worth of cast speed.

Raiders have to build up from zero and can get max 5-6 on a CI build.

Inquisitors are reliable, Raiders are not.
Reliable cast speed, reliable damage vs bosses vs ramp-up cast speed with a lower ceiling, unreliable damage.

Energy shield should just be an additional defensive layer. The damage you take from a hit is 50% * (currentES / max ES), and you lose ES equal to a hit's damage whenever you're hit. Having more ES means that you have more defense for longer.
