Its okay to have overpowered units because its an RPG and its your reward for leveling those units up. The idea that everything needs to be balanced all the time in a fucking single player game is full retard new age ideology. Here's the deal, there are multiple preferences on what Mount and Blade should be.

People that want a historical sim want you to have to use battle placement, tactics, and various other machinations and tend towards mods that simulate a time period in history.

People that want an open world RPG/Sim want to have options for expanding their character and units. Having a force of 120 fully decked out Swadian Knights crushing hundreds of peasants is just a reward of gameplay and its not even really that historically inaccurate.

The idea that a random lord would have Archers, Swordsman, Knights, Spearman and use them all in combined arms tactics with groups of 30 - 50 of each is rather retarded in my opinion. It makes far more sense to just have a troupe of some group of units and join together with the larger army.

I mean I know that European warfare in 1257 was more about a bunch of whats essentially private armies coming together (in the sense that each lord was responsible for maintaining and supplying his own force) but I still can't imagine them using tactics like a lot of "historical" or "realistic" Mount and Blade players use.

Were bannermen trained militia, did lords prepare them for some type of battlefield role before a war started just to be prepared when the banners were called?

Or did lords just send their men to every house and get a bunch of able bodied boys when the banners are called and give them to the king and then the kings army would provide on the spot training for whatever equipment the force had?

I mean I know for a time period England by law required people to have a longbow and practice with it but surely they couldn't have just had an army of 20,000 peasant archers with their own longbows that were probably poorly made shit that were just there so they fulfilled their requirements as deemed by the law.

English longbowmen were actually elite units that trained a lot (at least twice a week), elite longbowmen could kill units from far, far away and shoot multiple arrows in a little time, they were slightly better than crossbows but any peasant could use a crossbow and you can teach peasants how to use a crossbow in an afternoon while it takes years of training and ressources to get longbowmen, which is why longbows got replaced with crossbows and better variations of crossbows

Sort of right, most successful armies formed using private seasoned company's together with the lords heavy knights as well as the lords levys.

Levys where militia who were quickly trained by the local marshall, drilled in basic formation and maneuvers using lightly armed and heavy cloth armour or something lighter. Heavy knights/infantry where professional soldiers and costly very hard to maintain them, only really kings and high nobles could muster them in the hundreds.

Tactics were used and very important, though only the professionals or well trained could use complex tactics. The tactics we use are almost certainly the basic's they would follow.

This has been my play mode for a couple years or so now, I dont use steam.

The small party sizes and battles are seriously fucking with my immersion DESU lads.

I have 270 hours through multiple game modules and even VC and 1257 only have party sizes at like 400 max. That's less than a single Roman cohort (which was one tenth of a legion and at least 3-4 legions would be involved in a standard battle)

Even most battles I research in BC between sparsely populated kingdoms were like 5,000 on 5,000.

How do I compensate for this when trying to get immersed? Act like each guy is 10 men?

Is there an easy way to add the ability to continue fighting as one of your soldiers if you get knocked out in a battle?

There were a couple of mods which had and it really made the battles more fun. You make more of an effort to fuck the enemy's shit up instead of riding around wildly trying not to get hit by a stray arrow.

IIRC Star Wars Conquest let you continue fighting as one of your companions and Europe 1805 II let you continue fighting as a random unit.

you need them (archer right?) to break the original formation first, i use select 2 + F4 +F6 to form a square formation but archer cant form it so they will holding then F2+F4 to form 4 row

Whats the best polearm weapon in Native for both horseback combat and ground?

I'm using a Glaive and it's pretty great so far as I can attack and be out of range of foot sloggers with swords, I tried using it in a siege recently but the thrust was absolute garbage, whats the best polearm weapon in sieges?

I've got lots of choice but not sure what to pick, I'm currently a merc for Rhodoks and we are fucking up the lands of the Khergit so I'm not welcome in their towns if some weapons are specific.

yesterday i bought mount and blade warband because it was on 75% discount and played for like 2 hours.

I managed to kill a snow nigger that jumped me 3 seconds after arriving to a city when suddenly a merchant sent me to a quest to save his brother and 100 denars, i promptly fucked off instead of trying to save his brother only to be assaulted by 17 sea riders, managed to kill 1 on horse before my head met an axe, got captured and my horse stolen then proceeded to wander to bumfuck nowhere before i got to escape, about 3 seconds later another band of fuckers jumps me and captures me again, leaving me even farther away and scared, i called it a day there.


any tips/must-have mods/needed dlc to buy/etc before i start adventuring again today?

Diplomacy mod is all you really might want to care about for your first time with Warband.

Sea raiders are the toughest bandits in the game, along with desert and steppe ones.
Get Diplomacy if you wish, you'll not see much difference before hitting mid-game though.
Go to a training camp and learn to fight here. Its there for a reason

no mods are necessary or even recommended in the first hours you'll play.
as for tips, in the earlygame you need to be extremely careful as not to try and "autotravel" because bandits will fuck you up badly.
keep your eyes on the map. the spotting skill will allow you to see further so you can avoid enemy bands better, but you can have that on a companion as well. same thing with pathfinding, which makes you move faster.
you can also use the import/export character cheat to get a better feel of the skills and what to level up

Like if an enemy lord is raiding my village I'll get as close as possible and then TP myself on him to stop him escaping.

The way I see it is this; If I cannot escape when I'm raiding a village then neither should the AI.

With certain spears that have longer blades, I tweak them so they can be slashed horizontally while with a shield. Increasing speed generally helps bring them in line too.
