Another day and Rance remains on top of the MG chart, with the newly released Himawari still in second. One caveat though is the Ozmafia hardcopies go on sale tomorrow, and that charts separately from the digital downloads. Additionally, hard to say what kind of sales they've been seeing recently as it has been some time since we have got an order number.

Huh, except for the day right after they started, Rance preorders has been on top of the MG list. I wonder how long it'll stay.

It's hard to say how much it's been selling past the first few days since no one's been forking over order numbers and said order numbers would have had a reduced accuracy level anyways between the Himawari and the Ozmafia physical sales. All we know is that the sales of Rance from Dec 4 4PM EST to Dec 11 4PM EST outnumber what everything else got during that time period.

That's past the first 64 hours, which is neat, but everything else could just be selling more horribly than Rance. Huniepop is 5th of all things after all.

Some guy on the /jp/ thread has been tracking MG sales for some time like that. Looking at what they have, we had order number 239743 shortly after Rance went on preorder, with 240326 on 12/6, thus we know MG made at least 583 orders during that time period, the majority of those being for Rance since nothing else noteworthy went up for sale or preorder during that time (and Rance quickly went to the top of the weekly chart).

From what we seen so far, not being the Demon King seems to be an easy thing to do. You transfer the blood to someone else and turn back to your original form. At least that's what happened to Nighcisa. We don't know if Gi reverted back into a human or a Dark Lord after passing on the blood and Kentarou supposedly had Nikkou at the time, so it didn't matter either way.

Kentarou is a bit harder, but if Pi-R could extract the Blood Soul without killing the Dark Lord, he might do the same to Kentarou, maybe to turn his sister into a Dark Lord after she awakens or something.

It's probably just not aged well, but speaking as someone who wasn't even born when it was released, I think the bit that made me drop it was that girl you find in the castle dungeon. You have to talk to her like 5 fucking times before you get anything meaningful out of her, and before you do that she just groans. Basically, if anything's going to put you off, it's going to be that it's bullshit 80's adventure game logic done badly. I'd accept it if I need to talk to someone twice to get some info, but shit like that girl I mentioned is just too much.

Thanks for that, makes me feel much better about playing it blindly at launch. I prefer to play titles without a guide, but I wouldn't want to do so with a title designed for a single play through if it had easily missable good content.

You can, depending on which characters you're using the presents you get early on, miss doing a character event before the right time and get locked out it as you advance on the story (happened to me with Kanami). But the "extra" last chapter not only has a few new story content that concludes it, it also let you do characters events you left behind. So you have no risk of needing to start from the beginning to do it again.

I've done it to the most extreme level I could think of. 5 Star No Bonus, Isoroku Route, you are not allowed to defeat a House except by vassaling them.

The big issue with a strict vassaling only run like this is that you miss out on some pretty vital offensive units. The Tactician in pic related was pretty all I had to conquer castles once I lost Isoroku to the plot, everything else was down to exploiting Initial Time Advance and the Battle Permits. If memory serves, not conquering anyone also forbids you from calling for reinforcements, which also fucking hurts.

Anyway, technically the True Route might be a harder run (due to actually having to fight the Demon Army), but fuck that. Chances are you'd just exploit the infinite time during the Temple Event to make a seriously fucking good army of generics and win the game with them.

As for more normal vassal only runs where you're only forced to vassal the countries that can be vassaled but you're allowed to conquer anyone else. They're not so bad, at least you can get Natori.

Tokugawa can be vassled, but they often betray you.
You can't even enter the Ran Route without conquering Houjou, but in some (all?) routes where the Demon Army appear you can sort of half vassal them by getting them to agree to end the war, kind of like shutting the Takuga gate, which you also skipped.

There's also all of the vassals you can do in the Kenshin Route, but even being on that route means conquering Ashikaga and Uesugi, which is arguably cheating.

It's not, they just sort of agree to end the war and unlike the similar thing you can do with One-Eyed, Rance keeps his end of the deal and you're not allowed to go back to war with them. The only way to give them a proper vassal is via the Kenshin Route, but all of Kenshin's vassals are weird.

Ran is basically characterized as being super devoted to Souun and Souun being super devoted to her. Having Souun hook up with Komatsu would just invalid half her character.

If Rance does get dethroned though, the next two days are probably the last shot to do so.

As to your sales estimate, I would increase the preorders+launch week. We already know they made at least 812 orders between December 2nd and December 9th, and a conservative estimate would be at least 500 of those include Rance (though I wouldn't be surprised if Rance was closer to say 600-650). I'd have to think they would at minimum match those numbers for preorders between the 10th and 22nd, already taking the minimum up to 1000. Then the launch of a title is generally the largest burst you get on MG.

Long term numbers are far trickier, especially for a title that should benefit from great word of mouth, I'm not going to guess what numbers through the end of Summer might look like. Although at the very least, I expect we will have hard copies for Rance VI by AX.

Mouri and Takeda house bonus, as per my normal point run routine. Conquered and recruited One-Eye, but never saw any of his wives. The Shimazu's were mostly useless as they died to a much-delayed quake before getting any moves in (except for the musket unit, he's the strongest). It's mostly manipulating swap-ins using fast ninjas and the 9 speed cavalry, using diviner guards wisely, monk restore actions properly, and having a fair sprinkling of good luck. I did mess up on one monk use, because apparently restoring flags to one of your switchers makes them unable to switch at zero time units any more.
