Yeah. I think they didn't like how common waking up with buttons was in S1, and fear of reversals is part of why that worked. Turning meaties even more into the go-to 'autopilot' oki choice by extension makes blocking on wakeup the smartest option. That's on top of oki off of throws being largely removed. Basically they really really want you to block on wakeup.

It will make the game more offensive for sure. There are still meterless reversals, just not from the very first frame. See Guile's Somersault Kick: he can still reliably AA with them, but if you want to free yourself from a nasty situation you need to spend that meter bar.

The difference with S1 is also that you need to work harder for that okizeme. In S1 you had situations like corner throw loops or overall very close placement for some throw situations (leading to set-play-ish situations). It's part of what made S1 so unga bunga. S2 fixes that by making every throw land the opponent or you more far away from each other, which means you'll now have to work harder for that continued set-play.

As for the "honest" point. Yes, "honesty" is a concept that eats itself up when it placed into fighting games with varied roster and multiple playstyles. I see this more of a chance at shaking things up, hopefully for good.

Not sure anon, I'm having the same trouble. Basically I've been drilling into my head to always be ready to mash forward roundhouse or jump-back jab, though I'm sure there's a better button.

I'm super bad at using diagonal fireball or crouching fierce when the opponents jump angle is perfect for them.

Switching back to Bison makes me feel like I have so many options to stuff jumps now, when I originally felt like he was gimped in that aspect.

tekken 4 introduced walls, and we still have those. the rest of the ideas in that game were just not cohesive and it was a programming mess/nightmare, so it was hard to tell what was working and what wasn't. and given the dissatisfaction of that game overall, they just kept walls to discourage the backdashing craze the koreans showed off in tag 1. but you can't stop that without changing the movement system or disabling blocking during backdashes. even as shitty as backdashing is in tekken 7, it's still the most powerful movement option.

even if tekken has been the same since 5 as you claim, no single tekken game has been close to fleshed out competitively anyway. so playing a new but familiar game to pick up where the previous left off is kinda fun.

it's an easy to pick up game anyway, so new players can join in if they put in some effort. but 3d games just have the stigma of being too time consuming or require too much effort for some reason, so no one even tries.

It has by far the best in-game resources to learn the game's mechanics out of any fighting game and if you learn to play GG you know you can learn any other fighting game as well.
Not a snorefest, every matchup plays differently and has it's own unique interactions; not a jugglefest, combos are a bit shorter than most similar games and have proper scaling.
Revelator is going to stay the definitive version for at least a year, possibly more depending on whether it's true they want to switch to DLC expansions.

Still, having concepts like safe jump-ins, jump installs, soul stealing and pretty much every obscure mechanic explained and put into practice is arguably more important since it can't be experienced outside the game, it's more than just data.
