For example, if you have someone like Ziggs mid and Janna support, you don't need tanks. You will never engage in 5v5, just clear waves, push and poke. Basically you siege them and if they engage you disengage and fuck them up.

Orianna mid, Kennen top is another setup where you don't need a tank.

it builds into two items, but both of them give you an aoe on your basic attack
theres also graves who's basically a jungler now, his basic attacks area an aoe by default, but he has to reload every 2 attacks
he can go top as well, but he's kinda off meta in that.
