For a time /meg/ was a real hive of content creators and discussion. It didn't last very long when, as you said, people were chased away. There was a brief resurgence when MEGSEV happened but it died down pretty quick when SS, the driving force, vanished. I hope he's alright.
And the shitposters, I've never seen such persistent assholes. The EDI stomping guy, the Tali-fag-fag, Houseberry. It just never stopped.

The thing about the current Bioware that pisses me off, is that they have absolutely no fuckin' clue about slight subtly when it comes to things sexy. A spacesuit being that skintight does make sense, it uses mechanical pressure instead of atmospheric to pressurize the body. With suit reinforcements, gas tubes and masks, etc, it'll look sexy but also very practical. They have no sense of this.

I don't trust your actual figures. I never had any problem with the ending, pre and post extended cut. And most IRL friends who played Mass Effect didn't really had any problem bigger than "mild frustration".
The vocal people are usually the more visible of the lot. They spend times on forums and imageboards and seems like they're a big number when most of the time casuals who played ME didn't care much about the ending.

For the real answer, I agree with you but it's pretty difficult to stradle the line between "Give info on a new character personality" and "Say it too much on a new character". Bioware stance on Andromeda seems like they don't want to hype it, hence their discretion about it.

Funny thing is, the consensus for a while here in France was that French V.A for Maleshep was superior to Meer's work, but that French V.A for femshep suffered from "too much acting" sometimes.

In an interview the french maleshep V.A said that they had to work without any video feedback, only with texts and some direction about the emotion required.

If I need to theorycraft something I'll say that the Catalyst "voice" was created as a way to communicate directly with Shepard. As it is the very first time the Catalyst ever "appeared" to an Organic he created a synthetic voice made from an "archetype" of voice.

That way, the Catalyst basically created a soundbank to communicate directly with Shepard using specifically tailored vocabulary and tone. He would use a form : a child, with the voice of a child. If Shepard is male or female, he would take his voice too. But the opposite sex "voice" is just a fabrication, a "stereotypical male/female voice" in the same vein as the child's one is.

That's why, when you choose the Refusal ending, the Catalyst voice turned into the dour and cybernetic "Reaper" voice for the "So be it". The Catalyst abandons any hope of communicating with Shepard and reverts back to his "usual" self.

The Catalyst we see is a 100% virtual fabrication tailored to communicate with Shepard and collaborate with him.

Having a constant protagonist helps building up relationship with crew and the impact of one individual on an overaching story.
Having a new protagonist helps having a fresh look, lets you experiment new things from a different perspective and offer new characters to approach.

And both are limited in their own way.
Having a constant protagonist can only work in the long run, and youhave to find a way to keep them from ever reaching closure of their personal arc. Constant protagonist works well if you begin playing with them at the very start of an adventure (C.f The Witcher) and the scope will always focus on that character.
Having a new protagonist risk alienating people who will miss their old character and their old crew. You can become detached from that character. They usually work well if you want to focus on a time period or a specific "place" and see it evolves through the ages. (C.f : Fable series)

No matter how shitty a protagonist Shepard was, having him as a constant basically made the three games one long unabridged adventure. It gave the entire series a different feel when, in ME3, you're fighting alongside the friends you made at the start of ME1, or when your waifu has been fighting alongside you since the first game. So I ended up buying the trilogy for PC and a lot of the DLC while really drunk. Is 3's ending really that bad? I read somewhere that there was a fan mod that fixed it? Additionally I read that there was a high res mod for ME 1? Also regarding your party members, will different quests have different outcomes based on who I have in my party, additionally what happens to the party members I don't use, do they level up along with the whole party through the game or what?

Ending is pretty bad, but it's been mitigated by a few DLCs and mods. There are several fan mods that alter the original ending.

There is a high res mod for ME1, but it takes a little bit of work to do. It's worth it though, makes the game fucking pretty as hell. Be sure to disable film grain if you do so.

Outcomes are not affected based on who you have in your party, but there are hidden voice lines and quips that can appear based on who's in your party.

If you don't use them, they still level up.

YES, though slightly less so with the Extended Cut.

Different OUTCOMES? No, not really.

Everyone gets XP at the same rate, no one gets left behind. In ME1 only, you'll still need to properly distribute and manage weapons, grenades, armor, biotic amps, omni-tools, and mods for all of the above for everyone. In 2 and 3 that is largely dropped. I would recommend using all squad members for at least a few missions each rather than benching some of them permanently, since the following games always treat it as if you used every party member at a decent rate for the purposes of the story.

as someone who just finished playing through 3 today, it isn't as horrible as a lot of people make it out to be. But it is a massive letdown. doesn't feel like the ending the trilogy deserved, or the one it was building up to.
There are a few mods for you to pick from. Citadel Ending Mod is my personal favorite, though that works best when you also get one of the other ending mods.
