I just purchased a ps4, and am really gonna start getting into marvel, guilty gear, and street fighter.
Should I automatically start with a stick, or should I go with one of the fight pads? Which is better for ultra shitter beginners and which model should I buy?
I was leaning more towards a lad, some because it's cheaper, but if it just hurts my experience and hinders progress in the long run then I'll just purchase a good stick

Most will tell you "if you're bad with a controller, you'll be bad on a stick" but that's honestly bullshit. I've been able to do motions easier, faster, and way more consistently on a stick, and the button layout is just way less of a pain in the ass.

start with pad and get the feel for each game's mechanics and see how well it works for you. maybe try out a stick at your locals or from a friend and see how you like it. doesn't matter in the end, just play with what's comfortable for you. it'll take time to learn pad or stick anyway so don't feel bad if nothing clicks right away

If you have the option of buying a stick and don't know for sure that you are more comfortable with a pad then I'd say go for it.
Stick and keyboard/hitbox are the best controllers for fighting games.
You can still do good with a pad, especially if you stay away from the more technical characters, but it's a handicap you don't need to give unless you have years of experience in playing fighting games on a pad.
