Well you don't have to, it's just a sure way to do it more quickly.
I believe the rate of elite spawn is how often the map gets cleared out or something like that, as farming upper Dark World Tree with piercing arrow and no Kushkin makes them come every 3 minutes or so.
I think I finished the shade I made with like 110ish elite kills? Seriously considering dropping the title, all it gives is some okay stats and a little bit of pdr

No trading is a much larger obstacle when you want to upgrade gear or get some perm nx to cover up your fugly endgames.
