Well if the structural damage model of Star Citizen is as good as they hope it'll be, getting a merlin through a space too small shouldn't explode the ship but instead just take off a wing.

So this master plan will require a repair ship or really fucking good pilots capable of flying at handicap.

Left hand joystick, right hand mouse.

You can either set it up so that the joystick replaces keyboard directly and have analog strafe thrusters, with roll on the twist, allowing more fine grained maneuvering, or leave the left stick as yaw pitch roll, using a slider for main thruster and hat for strafing. This lets you fly the ship totally decoupled from your gimbal/turret gun aim.

You get a better sense of scale in ED with VR but even then it's subtle with something as large as a star.

The one change they could make to huge stars, without letting you get unsurvivably close to them, would be to model them more accurately. Our current understanding is that giant stars have very uneven surfaces due to factors like the distance of the outer layers from center of mass. They are not smooth spheres like our sun. Direct imaging of Betelgeuse in particular by Hubble revealed that it has a doughy appearance.

If you were to jump to such a thing the surface features would make its size pretty clear even though you're 6000ls out.

I just saw the flight model changes and boost/afterburn refactor. What does /scg/ think?

When I heard that they were going to slow shit down again I instinctively thought they were going to fuck it up worse than it was, but after showing some of the stuff off I think I really like it. It changes the dynamics of maneuverability dramatically.

Afterburn ignites your main engines so you can make it to cruse speeds and only affects your main engines. This finally gives them a more solid purpose thanks to how powerful most maneuvering thrusters were. It feels better than the arbitrary SCM/Cruise toggle and puts cruise speeds under an energy/fuel limitation if you do it too often. Racing will now actually be interesting. It opens the door for speedy ship niches where building a ship around using afterburn often may be advantageous in some situations where a more weapon or armor oriented ship would struggle.

Boosting only increasing maneuvering thruster output also ties into all of the Afterburn stuff and adds another layer of maneuvering depth to the game.

One man in a gladiator can deliver 8 S5 torpedoes.
Seven men in a Tally can deliver 6 s9 torpedoes.

For its size it does not comparatively offer much of an increase in punching power, while being a much larger much slower target than its alternatives. It's use of internal space is abysmal, literally more than 50% of the internals are functionless corridors.

Thats not even the primary issue though, the primary issue is the combination of realtively weak turrets compared to what they are supposed to defend against and abysmal turret placement preventing more than a a couple of the turrets from reliably focusing fire on a given target, Its a fairly small ship with 5 turret gunners, but the turret are place so poorly that most of them cannot focus fire at all, most of them have extremely limited fire arcs and perhaps worst of all its least defended arc is directly behind, the area it is most likely to be attacked from.

I do not expect CIG to rework the base hull, at all frankly, but I don't want to just accept that its going to be second rate in terms of efficient use of the hull, so I'm fishing for ideas. Also I want to keep beating the drum of it being a sub par ship right now in hopes that it staying on radar of both players and devs keeps it in mind as a ship that needs some love. It ios one of SCs most iconic ships and it should be a viable choice for both its intended bombing role and also its advertised civilian refit role.

The Tally turrets loadout is actually quite good. You can have between 2 and 3 turrets facing any direction at any time, including the rear just by modifying a little the firearc.
All their weapons are on par with what the fighters hardpoint are being rebalanced to be, at worst you make the front turret gain a size so they double as (pilot-linked) front firing guns to match Connie (assuming you don't blow up connie with torpedo already)

There is no need to cry because it's not an dedicated anti-fighter gunship. It will be fast and stealthy and they'll probably be forced to redesign it anyway because they now have a definite size of missiles and the Talli can only carry so much.

But I agree entirely with the rest of the criticism, the space wasted, the pointless corridors, the lack of internal bay for small missile and I'll add "too many landing gear".

i couldnt get 2.6 to work properly but i was able to try out the survival mode with a mustang alpha
i did pretty well but the shitty guns it has made anything take forever to kill. wasnt damaged too badly after a few waves
you just gotta learn to handle the boost button a little so you can avoid absorbing all the damage
by the 4th round my right engine was scratched up but still did alright

They did something to the vanduul damage absorption or hit detection or something in VS in 2.6 which makes it very difficult to kill them. I tried a Mustang Alpha like you, as well as a Gladius, and it took me significantly longer than it ever has before to put even one of the bastards down. I couldn't even get the wings to blow off after pumping them full of ballistics, so I suspect some kind of bug where fully damaged components stay stuck to the ship and block incoming shots, yet generate a hitmarker. May also be network/server related since the AI seemed to have no problem stealing my kills.

I might try it later with a bigger ship like the Gladiator or Constellation, which you can apparently fly in VS now.

For every turret you leave unmanned you are carrying a bunch of pointless mass and leaving a fire arc vulnerable.

You might be able to launch your torps solo, but you are barely able to defend yourself when fully manned and each turre you leave unmanned makes you less able.

The tallys entire defensive armament consists of 10xS2, realistically you can get a max of 6xs2 on any given target. That's less firepower that a hornet with its turret on a target 4 times the size. And realistically you only going to be getting 1-2 turrets on target most of the time. Even a single unmanned turret is going to reduce that to 1 reliable turret or less, due to turret layouts making it so that every turrets field of fire is limited and few of them overlapping for more than a few degrees.

I am not and have never been advocating for a massive increase in firepower and am certainly not in favor of giving the tally s3 guns. The only boost I would consider giving to its turrets is making them quad s2 turrets instead of dual. Since that would maintain the gun type restrictions while giving the turrets more bite.

The tally turret loadout could potentially be good, if they had overlapping expansive fields of fire, but they dont and won't be getting it. YOu cannot have 2 or three turrets in any direction at any time, you can have 2 turrets facing in most directions, 1 turret facing in some directions, combine that with the relative difficulty in aiming turrets, erratic and evasive flight path the bomber is going to have to run to not just die and the fairly weak per turret power and your end result will be a bomber that does not have enough turret guns to deter direct attack from even a single well shielded fighter.

Again I do not advocate S3 turret guns, thats too much of a buff and would look absurd as well. I advocate perhaps 4xS2 on the turrets giving each turret less sustained fire through heat and power draw, but more burst fire.

The ship was sold as a long range bomber able to operate on its own. Mandatory escort is both fan fiction and a terrible idea for balance. Take the 7 crew medium ship and making it require fighters and even more crew to potentially do its job is ridiculous. Fighter escort to do its job in relative safety is reasonable, fighter escort to do its job at all is not.

Furthermore it was also sold as a surplus hull for civilian refit into non bombing roles, for that to be true it needs to be able to fly in dangerous space without babysitting. For that to be viable the turrets need to be more than a token.

The Tali turret do have overlapping expansive field of fire, and I'm starting to think you are just trolling. But I'll give you that it make sense if you assume that a turret with no crew is basically offline. While it's a good worse-case to work with, there's other possibility. Between "basic auto-tracking" (while crew repair) or several turrets being linked to a manned one.

Having 2 turrets capable of tracking a single target is already a luxury, and the Tali can have 3 in many situation.

Same goes for the assumption that turret will stay hard to aim, it would take one perfectly "realist" change of point of reference (auto-tracking galactic plane) and you'd give turret a cheaty precision that no fighters can hope for (rather than missing 50% of the time when you aren't maneuvering, you would be hitting 90% of the time with no need to maneuver).

Lastly : THAT'S IF THERE'S NO REDESIGN. Remember that the Constellation was remade entirely despite being a medium ship.

Frankly at this point I wonder why we even bother making prognostic. Maybe when the game is out we will be begging to nerf it.
So discussing its waste of space and lack of small missile rack (for the principle of the thing) would be much more constructive. For example I don't remember a radar/ECM-console and I would say that's needed for anything relying on stealth (even an "old ship")

It's actually worse, though not because of any direct nerf on the ship. The gun range reduction means you tend to be *much* closer when your target explodes and I swear to to god, you'd think there was some sort on magnetic effect on the fiery husks, because they almost always seem to fly right at your ship. And due to the Reliant's wide ass profile that means it's really easy to get a wing sheered off nearly every time you actually manged to shoot something down.

Because the Taurus is not a literal loot pinata and the Hull B is. That thing is gonna be slow, sluggish and completely unable to defend itself when loaded. Taurus has better shields, missile racks and 4 s5 hardpoints. It's a better ship to fly solo because it can run fight or tank, the Hulls Bs only option alone is to flee, and its not gonna be particularly good at that.

Regardless of what you think the point is, you won't have more than 100 or 200 players at a single places and they will still use instancing (which is a feature not a workaround).

Dual Universe do not have the same ambition and physics requirement than Star Citizen. You'll have to prove that all those other "upcoming engine" have the same requirements.

SC is simply not made to have that many players, they even boast about tailored quests and you can't have those with players around.

While we're talking about the Cobra can someone explain to me what the fucking point of the MK IV is?
Its extra internals and 1 extra SMALL hardpoint as all but nullified by: over 2 Ly worse jump range(when optimized for exploration), worse shields, worse maneuverability, and FAR worse speed.
Why would you waste your Cr on this thing? Its bonus in trading isn't remotely worth picking it up because if you just save a little longer for 200,000 Cr you can just a Type-6 which is outright better at trading than it.

No need to fear, the number of Npcs one player can manage is going to be limited to like 3-10 and it will take at minimum several humans to crew something like and idris or jav. Humans players are not going to have minion ships either beyond MAYBE and escorting fighter or two, but even that is unlikely. There is no way that admiral dog is going to get what he wants and spergs about. No way he is going to solo his destroyer with his idrises flying wingman for him crewed entirely by npcs. At most hes going to have his one ships running an absolute skeleton crew too the point where he's gonna have only half his guns manned, no on board security team and probably no engineering or damage control party either.

Depends largely on the ship. The Anaconda and Federal Corvette have their bridge's placed at the rear of the ship, so a pilot of one of those sees most of the top of their ship in front of them.
Fer De Lance can see some of their top but less so because the cockpit is placed around the middle and because the Fer De Lance angles downward much more.
If you look left or right in an ASP E you can see the front halves of your ship.
The Vulture's cockpit is placed in the middle of the front and inward so a portion of both sides of your view is always taken up by the front of your ship.

The goal of the game is not "get the biggest ship" like EVE, the game is a sandbox, the ships are tools. EVE is an RPG with linear progression star citizen is not.

I think the issue is
1) people are bad.
2) Gun TTK is relatively high in shooter terms and Knife TTK is the same, make knives relatively more powerful then they are in most games and knife rushing a more viable strat.

I don't imagine this will last long though in a game with a focus on "realism", my guess is that melee isnt taking armor into account right now and is just a a "tag hitbox do damage" mechanic and that their usefulness will fall back into stealth kills and weapon of last resort when they interact properly with armor. Half thsoe kills he wasn't even aiming for joints, just wildly slashing at plates, which realistcally would accomplish nothing at all, you cant slash through Ceramic polymer composite armor with a knife.

The bulk of SC is going to be logistical gameplay no MUH EPIC CAPSHIP COMBAT, and the overwhelming majority of org effort is going to be aimed at stockpiling resources and credits. This is why caps are going to be an org effort, only a large group of people will be able to keep one fueled, armed, repaired and operational for more than a couple hours at a time, just like in the real world, one man cannot maintain so much as a tank much less a frigate.

You're talking about the mechanics of keeping a fleet flying as "dull gameplay" I'm saying that is going to be the vast majority of the game.

You just want to be one of the only people in the game to be able to use capital ships since you are probably in one of the biggest orgs or know someone who bought a Javelin. You can't stand other people having fun or playing however they want to.
