how long does it take a newbie to get used to all the different combos for a specific weapon?

i just picked up 4U and DB looks really fun, but the min-maxing combos according to the OP pastebin seems pretty intense. For the time being can I get away with just basic X combos in demon form, build arch demon meter then just do some X's and maybe a XA along the way? Basically, is there a buffer period wherre i wont get my shit stomped for not knowing every perfect combo?

i've only played 4U and Gen and i want an "old MH" experience. which game should i emulate to learn about the shitty hitboxes and other rage-inducing stuff i keep hearing about?

Just got a 3DS and grabbed a copy of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate for it.

How do I git gud? I read the FAQ and I think I understand the mechanics, but the fact of the matter is I'm getting my butt kicked by the big monsters in the quests.

are there any weapons to avoid while starting out with DB? new to game, not sure if i should just craft weapons whenever and then make the elemental weapons + good armor sets as stated in the pastebin

it doesn't really matter a ton what you use early on. DBs get a lot from element but taking the time to keep crafting and upgrading the elemental weapons can slow down your progress worse than just taking longer to clear quests with a raw DB.

It's up to you how you want to handle it but you can easily get away with not crafting elemental weapons until at least high rank if you don't want to bother. If you're going with raw, look for weapons with a good sharpness bar since DBs burn through it quickly

I'm preparing to solo my urgent Nakarkos. I know the tranq bomb trick though I never got the timing right while helping others with their urgents. What should I expect? I suppose this will play out a lot like a mohran fight where it's just a race to deal as much damage as possible?

I can go at it with either a Switch Axe, Hammer or SnS (fire). Which one would you recommend?

Hyper Blangonigger alone apparently has more health than fucking Nakarkos, or the netcode is such utter garbage that it wasn't properly registering like 80% of everyone's attacks. Hyper shit doesn't even do anything different, just randomly does G-rank damage and covers the monster with literally handwaved retarded glowy bits; as completely dogshit as Apex was at least it affected the fight in a way other than "use a few more Mega Potions and take forever to die."

Did this a few times helping people with Yamatsukami in Unite playing through Xlink Kai. Got saved from a nomnom instagib once myself by someone staggering him before I hit the teeth; I just kept flying and ended up falling through the zone transition door at the bottom of the area, was pretty funny.

Silverwind weapons, for all the convenience of long natural white and that bit of affinity, are still only on par with an average 220 raw natural blue weapon in terms of straight damage. Hellblade fares slightly better, being about 3 extra raw with free Blast.

Keeping in mind that a lot of 220raw blue sharpness weapons take almost no effort to make while Deviant weapons require grinding out the ASS, I feel like maybe nobody in the design process gave a single fuck. Is Silver Rathalos considered an endgame monster in general? I don't recall having any problems with him in 4U but since the highest sharpness I have on my CB is blue I bounce off of literally every fucking part of his body that isn't his legs. This is a pain in the ass.

Is there a basic set/skills for CB in mhgen? Like CritDraw/Focus for GS?

Problem is that going for Guard/Evasion skills for any weapon in general will cut into your attack skills significantly due to the overall shortage of decoration slots, so it's essentially comfort vs damage.

Most weapons seem to go for MHGen's crit meta, but CB still likes AuX for maximizing phial damage so there's the regular Rathalos stuff for that. If you like Adrenaline builds though, Drilltusk Tetsucabra's armor grants Guard +2 on top of it when maxed.

Like FU the basics and weapon tutorials available are independent of the actual village questline in contrast to how 3U and 4U practically force you to go through the basics, capture ones being an example. And that judgement katana is terrible too. Need sharpness+2 just to make all that white worthwhile, need AUL cause awful raw, only decent thing about it is two slots and 50% affinity.

Hopefully it becomes at least as decent as it was in 4U once XX hits with that long mile of purple sharpness.
