Yeah I don't get it, I'm still playing it, I still love invasions at every SL between 20-60. I have almost 500 hours into the game, played since release (took a break for a few months before the DLC though), and still love playing it to this day. Well worth the money I paid for it.

The combat is damn tight, some mechanics like the health system is like the best of DeS but the regen is gated reasonably far into the game so it doesn't trivialize the game and it has the DaS2 limited Estus flask system PLUS Ashtus.

The PvE is good, the setting feels like you have a clear purpose, the levels are very atmospheric, the level design and combat encounter design is solid, the enemies are fun to fight, with the DLC patch the hyperarmor works ok. There are actual invasions and overall the game just feels GOOD, the combat is really meaty.

One thing that I kinda miss about DS1 is having usable armor and more different playstyles but overall I think DaS3 is a good mixture of the good traits of the Souls series.

Most pointless NG+ system thus far though.

4PP is really good at low levels though because you can wield it with base stats while it's also long as fuck. That's really important for anything in the SL35 and below range since you generally want to dump all of your stat points into life and maybe stamina. The only other spear option in that regard is ghru spear which is shorter and does slightly less damage but is good at SL15-20 where poison is actually useful.

Because it doesn't shake up the gameplay enough to make a difference. DaS1 added Gravelording, DaS2 had a whole load of NG+ changes to levels and NG+ trader inventories. DeS didn't change much for NG+ but the game had a lot of replay value anyway and the jump in difficulty was bigger.

I wish there were more daggers with quickstep in this game. They're probably the funnest thing ever to use in PvP. Hope the DLC does something about this.

Even outside of facing mages, even in invasions against ganks, I've really gained a respect for offhand xbows. They're just so damn satisfying to use, especially if you've got the AoE with explosive bolts or lightning bolts in water areas.

But especially for mages/pyros, offhand xbows are so damn good. Seemingly a hard counter, even. Also really good with obscuring ring in invasions, lol.

Feels pretty damn smug being a person who played DaS3 as my first souls game and using no parry tool or shield for my whole first blind solo playthrough, literally just got gud at rolling. Helps that I have amazing hearing and most enemies/bosses have sound tells for their attacks, so I can just listen to know when to dodge usually.

Just frustrate them famalam! The moveset is easy enough to read. Offhand crossbow works well so does the dodge, shoot mechanic both the composite and short bows have on them. Just stay away from them and pick them to death. They want the running L1 and the R1, they need consecutive hits. Just dodge off, pop a shot, and do it again. They will get frustrated incredibly quickly then they make stupid decisions. When they do that whack them ONCE with your melee weapon because most of them just start parry wiping.

The club deprived starts with kinda sucks but the stat allocation isn't bad, most raw astora twinks use deprived and it's got just enough stats for carthus flame arc, which is a pretty good earlygame pve spell (which sadly is locked behind abyss watchers) considering its 90 second duration and all the enemies weak to fire (not to mention the fact that it adds more than a bundle at base stats).

Most of the gifts are pretty useless. Gold coins are kinda good for getting drops early on, most people just grab that or the soul item.

I remember when we whined about those issues in DaS2 but at least those DLCs learned from the mistakes of the main game.

DaS3s DLCs obviously didn't get the chance to learn from their mistakes because Mr. Miyazaki-sama isn't capable of making mistakes, which is why he could afford to ignore every lesson learned from DeS, DaS1 and BB's problems. Hell, they probably had most of AoA done before they even released the base game so it was already too late to iterate on any of the major area layout problems like having too many bonfires or a shitty 2H DLC with only one real bossfight

He might have had a map drawn, but going off of the amount of item data that got updated/added when the DLC hit (fluted set etc) I doubt they had that many assets produced.

I think they actually planned to make Archdragon peak a DLC package and preemptively made it though, but then realized it was too fucking short for that. "Battle the firstborn of Gwyn" sounds like an amazing purchase bait, and considering how you just warp to ADP out of fucking nowhere, I wouldn't be surprised if it was originally intended to be additional content.

On the other hand I got my first low level hacker at this level, though I feel like it's an anomaly. Before or since I've never run into an actual 1v4 at this low of a level, with a dark spirit summoned that was in on the gank attacking me. It was pretty hilarious actually, that despite their numbers advantage and having the crabs and exiles and such cleared out, they felt the need to summon another red soapstone who turned out to be a speed hacker just doing some weird stunlock that didn't actually do any damage as he zoomed around the level. Then me and the watchdog just crystaled out.

The thing I hate most about Ds3 is the potential it had to be such a great game if all of the previous games good features made it in and half of it didn't feel rushed to shit.

In every sense of the word, Ds3 feels like an incomplete game. It feels like a 'good enough' game, and that's how I'll remember it.

For all it's faults, Ds2 at least felt like a complete game, like nothing was missing, and the DLC's felt like true extensions.

I just feel like Ds3 should have been way better, with much more content than Ds1 or Ds2. Instead we got a rushed game that was finished with only a year of development. And if 6 months got us AoA, I really don't think I'll ever be impressed with Ds3. It just has too many faults.

It had a great first playthrough, loved my first playthrough of Ds3 probably more than any of the others, but after that, there's just nothing. The game feels shallow, Invasions are terrible 95% of the time, and the PvP sucks dick(at least they're attempting to fix it). I just hope the DLC 2 brings a lot of changes, but I'm skeptical.

Irithyll may be the most beautiful zone in the series.

I'm not used to a game being this active. I first played DaS 1 and DaS 2 this year, so naturally it was a small fraction of the current player base. For awhile invasions dried up when I got to Irithyll, but now there's no wait at all. I think maybe I was under-leveled for the area.

I just got invaded by Alva the Wayfarer. Was never expecting to see him. I also went in this awful dungeon with these health draining assholes and saw what appeared to be Witch Zullie in a cell that I can't yet open. Surprised at the number of DaS 2 callbacks honestly. So far have found several bits of Drangleic equipment (Drang hammer, Drang armor, Shield of Want), Alva's armor, Alva himself, Witch Zullie, and King Vendrick's shield.

I'm still not sure how I feel about the DaS 3 system. I miss old poise. Sometimes the faster pace is nice, sometimes it's weird. It definitely aggravates the effect of latency in invasions.

Speaking of, I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. The Zweihänder is awesome and I seem to win about 50% of my invasions that are not 3 on 1 gangbangs.

DaS3 is like BB sized, which is pretty fucking small, but it's very linear and lacks the huge amount of side content that are Chalice dungeons, that while kinda shitty, has a good chucnk of unique content and bosses, so DaS3 feels even fucking smaller. DaS2 was boring for like 90% of the content, but it was quite long, with a lot of fucking stuff even in just the base game.

AoA biggest problem is that it followed up an actual decent game that is DaS3, so when the dlc wasnt AotA/ToH tier, it felt very fucking underwhelming, while the crown trilogy followed the terribleness of DaS2, so when they were pretty good, you really feel the difference and they look better than they are. Though even considering that i think Crowns>AoA

It's not exactly 30%, it depends on a few things. You likely didn't do the option area in the catacombs or get to the other optional area with the hardest boss in the game. There's also quite a bit of content once you get past the profaned leading up to the last lord. Mostly optional, though.

In other words, you're 30% done with the game if you go right where you need to go, but theres another 15-20% of optional stuff you can do.

Yes, but the bonfire design is actually fairly ok since they all serve some purpose.
Snowfield bonfire is the initial one that allows you to go to the Millwood area or progress.
Rape bridge cave can be used to backtrack to the Millwood area or progress to Corvian Settlement.
Settlement bonfire has a couple of physical shortcuts.
Snowy Mountain pass has also 2 physical shortcuts you'll unlock after.
Ariandel Chapel bonfire allows you to go to the Friede bossfight,the fly cave and the area with the roots.
