I play females in all my games because in my mind I am palying the game alongside my character, not as my character. As such I create a waifu and "we" play the game "together".

I can never suspend disbelief enough to completely place myself in my character, esepecially in non 1st person games where there is already a level of distance created between the player and the character, you are not your character merely its controller. As such making a male character is not the same as "recreating myself in a game". It would merely be me playing a game "using" a male, which I have always found and always will find a tad gay.

e.g. some guy making a muscle character in some MMO, he either thinks that is a representation of himself (or who he would like to be) which is delusional, or he likes playing alongside a muscle man, which is rather gay.

That's a vast simplification so you don't have to deal with it being skill based and can hand wave why some players are better than others at combat.

I'll break down three archetypes.

1. Taser bolts. If it hits you you're down and at the mercy of your opponent. The taser bolt itself moves at a moderate speed and is dodgeable if you have extremely good reaction speed and a good internet connection to the server. It's always disappointing to react late to the yellow ball of doom but that does not make it unfair. You had a clear opportunity and missed it. However there are certain situations where you will not be able to effectively dodge like in 1x wide corridors. The lesson to learn is looking at what drew you into that corridor and why you chose that path. It was dangerous and you took a risk. Was the risk worth it?

2. Trickysticky. Chloral to parapens to lingadings. All of these rely on having chemicals to counteract them already ingested, and are best avoided entirely. The method of avoidance is your standard "don't trust a stranger" stuff you do in real life. If you are not in a group then do not let someone stand directly next to you. Likewise if fighting something like a xenomorph, continually move and avoid predictable patterns. You have the range advantage. Utilize it.

3. ZAS. Situational awareness is the number one reason why people fall down. Being careful when in depressurized areas as well as noting the signs of atmospheric disruption will help you make intelligent decisions instead of running on autopilot, dying, and getting mad at the game.

It is not a shame to be knocked down by other people. The important thing is to ask when you're being knocked down, 'Why am I being knocked down?' If a person can reflect in this way, then there is hope for this person.
