Apparently, asides from looking nice (R.I.P Vita users, as the glowing emblem can only be seen by you and not other players), it adds a bonus to the damage you output while reducing the damage you take.

Best dressup, best combat, problem is once you run out of things to accomplish, it's all about stacking money for clothes and shit. but that just means i get to catch up on the backlog. Having friends to help keeps me interested as well. Love the space setting, and traveling to other planets aspect of the game.

A couple of fun trivia pieces about TD ranking system.

-Chance of last hitting is dependent upon overall damage dealt to the mob. Instead it's dependent upon the DPS when you are approaching the mob's last hp points, you could say it's the derivative of your damage function when mob hp->0. While it's hard to make an accurate model for it, you can explain the general idea with an example. Say you reach a mob wave first and unleash all your PAs and deal 80% damage to all mobs, then you run out of PP and you DPS drops a lot since you have to use normal attacks. If somebody arrives at that moment he is almost assured to score all the kills, even though you've done most of the work. Late arrival is the best method for scoring last hits while doing barely any works since for all intents and purpose it doesn't matter how much damage you've dealt previously. In fact you can treat the mobs with 20% hp left as mobs with 100% hp but less base hp.
-Bigger DPS usually gets last hits when taking the EQ as whole, unless he repeatedly performs attack patterns that that lower his chance of last hitting like above
-It's still good to be the first one to arrive in weaker MPAs, since you should be able to secure many kills before everyone is there and able to dish damage
-Reviving people actually gives lots of points same with infection destruction. It's also worth picking on bosses when you know they are low at hp.
-You can associate each class with specific cost and speed of lane switching in TD. Generally if you have high lane switch cost because you play a slow class that needs a warm up time before doing damage, you're better off if your MPA is slow. Less lane switching means less DPS deceleration and less downtime compared to fast classes that switch lanes quickly and don't need to ramp up as much.
