So I saw from the previous thread that you guys were mixing up what we usually consider western style RPG and JRPG.

WRPG tends to be more faithful to the board games that spawned the RPG genre in first place, often having (in comparison with the filled with loads and loads of dialogue JRPG) minimalistic plots with as few dialogue as possible such as in torchlight and diablo, where honestly I don't give really give a shit about the playable characters as they are just a means to a goal AKA the gameplay, although I bet roleplayers likes to get into the character and invent an story and interactions with NPC, I know my friend likes to invent stories even for generic units in those games with a party based system.

JRPG are the ones who loves to write a sometimes needlessly huge plot and give the protagonists a background story and plot relevance above merely being the chosen one fated to kick the ass of satan or something.

As for the more thread relevant topic, I still like the idea of pulling a DW3 and give you a limited bunch of child level digimon with extended evolution trees, but unlike DW3 actually make them characters involved in the story as much as the human characters are, maybe even take a page from PSP adventure and make the "canon" evolution plot locked and make non canon evolution stuff obtained through simple requirements such as levels, beating a boss or have a sidequest entirely dedicated to unlocking said evolution

WRPGs are often more wordy than JRPGs are. They have entire sentences just there for the sake of it and dialog boxes containing way much content.

Diablo is now a WRPG, it's an action RPG, it falls into the same camp as Zelda.

I played the first two ones and you could breeze through everything without even seeing more than the bare minimum if you went full murderer, and even if you weren't there's very few plot related things you need to do before going straight to the endgame and the plot of both games wasn't exactly big unless you go out of your way to examine stuff and do sidequest to get more into the completely optional lore.

That sounds reasonable, although I still think WRPG have a much thinner plot and usually once you leave tutorial land, pretty much most of the plot is completely optional. Or maybe things varies depending the game? I'm more or a JRPG gamer as the only WRPG games I played were diablo 1/2/3, torchlight and fallout 1/2/tactics, but lately i've been trying to play Dragon Age Origins and other than the origins story and the first major conflict, I was set free into the world with only the vaguest of plot threads guiding me and I can guess I won't see much of the setting or the plot if I go straight to the main missions.

Eh, I tried to play the elder scrolls oblivion, and I didn't really like it.There was the whole thing about escaping the prison, the king died and then I had to find some guy and I just wandered around the nearest city to see if somebody could tell me where to find him. I wasn't sold into the whole having to walk through the wilderness for half a hour/one hour until reaching the next settlement and the level up system was fucked up, I would lose stat points if I overdid training one of my proficiences as there was a cap to stat ups or the opposite and get minimum stats for not using them enough

Those digimon are not furry bait because they're clearly human. They're 90% human with attachments. Women wearing angel wings is pretty standard fair for halloween, as are pretend horns. That's well within the wheelhouse of "sexy angel" or "Sexy succubus/vampire". Ranamon is blue and has massive fish ears. This is basically the same as having a snout. It no longer looks humanoid when it's primary facial features aren't humanoid.

Play PSP adventure on the magic-like PPSSPP emulator (available for both PC and smartphone, my Samsung S5 handles PSP games fairly decently). It's only partially translated, but that's no problem as I assume everybody watched Adventure and the most important thing, the menues, are translated. I think it is a decent RPG and while obviously it has a limited set of obtainable digimon, it plays nicely and sometimes you might want to use previous evolution stages (I for one prefer to use Lilymon over Rosemon due utility skills) over the newest ones

Indeed, all you get are the eight chosen digimon and their evolutions up to ultimate/mega (guaranteed for Agumon and Gabumon, others have secondary requirements) plus Omegamon once you hit the Our War Game segment.

There's also a crossover special scenario where you are joined by the other main characters of later seasons and you get to control Magnamon, Dukemon, Kaisergreymon, Shinegreymon, Omegashoutmon and Arresterdramon.

I like frontier. The royal knights arc dragged for longer than its healthy but other than that I liked it. Loved how it had the balls to destroy moons and most of the digital world plus mass genocide of mons and the evil spirit warriors were some of the funniest and coolest groups of digimon villains until the Lilithmon/Bastemon/Tactimon dynamics in xros wars.

Things like arbormon being the odd guy, ranamon bitching how she was the only one without a beast spirit and managing her fanclubs as a side activity, grottomon being a cocky guy and then throwing a tantrum when he lost his beast spirit, mercurimon being a leader of sorts and duskmon being the lone wolf made it look like they were actually close each other, maybe even friends, instead of being there just because their boss said so.

I hope that when cameramon becomes relevant again we see him interacting with mienumon and having some dynamic with her instead of just being pissed off and acting on his own or worse, become a case of "you outlived your usefulness" and become fusion fodder for a stronger Leviathan agent.

Their biggest problem is that they're evolution dead ends. A better way to handle them would be to include them in a game but add different evolutionary paths. Make it like the X antibody where once you're "infected" by an egg you gain access to those lines. Maybe limit it to only those lines but make Armour it's own segment. I can't be the only one sick of the same generic evolution lines at this point.

There is definitely room to play with the digimentals but they need to break from their religious attachment to the chosen children's digimon. I know people like those Digimon but they dominate every game they're in because there is just so many of them. When you have a core of say 30 Digimon you have to include at Child there's not a whole lot of room left for new stuff with the padding they always put in. Lets just say fuck Agumon and only include Toy Agumon and Snow Agumon instead. You still get your agumon if you want it but it forces you away from the bullshit.

Never going to happen, normies want their anime digimon, or worse, only the adventure digimon. That's why getting O12 digimon is such a hard time even when most of them have easily translatable evo lines.

As for branching evo paths, it all goes to shit when there is an endgame, and only ultimates are used, that's the reason why the Dianamon DLC only included her and lunamon and basicly erased the other 2 forms.

You need to make a game that encourages branching evolution paths, not just having them for the sake of having them. If you add the armors, give the players a reason to use them besides being novelty.

No idea what O12 is.

You include the Dark spires but push them futher. Now we have spires that limit what evolution tiers you can use around them. This limits Armour, that limits Adult, that limits Perfect. You could even make it a tactical game where you take 02's spire clearing and make that the objective. You have to clear the spires and reclaim the Digital world. Randomise where the portals are each game and you have an excellent Digimon rogue like which forces you to use different evolution types.

You could even expand it so it forces you to use different Digimon types. Have it lock Virus evolution or Plant evolution. That means you have to have a balanced team to conquer the map. Also do the "the more time you spend in this form the stronger it becomes" thing. That way you will pick using a weaker form some times to power it up for when you need it.

Hell I want to create this game now, it sounds fun as hell.

They could pull a lost evolution and make it so evolution was lost through the ages (I dunno what the actual plot is, but I assume something like that happened) and they need to unlock them. At early game the only viable pseudo evolutions would be armor evolution as it wasn't affected by the plot device and jogress, which must be done in-battle as a temporal power up that makes you lose one digimon slot for obvious reasons but later you can unlock actual evolutions and well, trying to justify more uses for them would be like justifying wanting to take child or adult levels to the endgame.
