this bitch clearly converted 3 of my cities to catholic why cant i use holy war CB?
i have the civic to unlock holy war.

How large is their fleet? Do awakened FE's constantly build ships to the max fleet capacity?
>>
>>160636027
Yes.

He had at least three 100k+ fleets that I know of.
>>
>>160635425
i figured it out
need a 5 turn denouncement like formal war on top of the holy war conditions, to declare holy war
>>
>>160636087
Damn lol probably has several more then as I've seen people post multiple 100k/200k fleets from FE with regular fleet capacity

>giving another person cities and resources while wearing me down with war penalties
>penalties on amnesty/production/science/culture

What can I do? I am superior in everything but one guy commits on pulling me down to his garbage level.
The worst part is that my defending units are being pulled in because of minus income.
Peace talk is out of the question, the match is surely rigged.
>>
>>160635961
I dont know how but i was able to Beat xenophile awakened fe with 70k , fleet 900limit (around 2340, war took 20 years). I declared prevention war and they sended two fleets 50k and 90k which i dispached with 20k loseses. I took 9 of their planets (those stations man) and i plan to take remaining ones in next war, but firstly i need to build my new infrastructure and build up my fleet.
Im a little afraid because the reaserch projects gave me psi jump drive and im worried to use it. I didnt had any crisis yet so i dont know what to expect. I think ive got Nice fleet comp (without energy torp thou) but i think i cant war anyone when those guys can be summoned in my systems without a warning. Any way to know when theyre coming (few years after reaserch, using drives to much/on large fleet?) And tips on unbidden fighting?
>>

Uninstall and play a game not designed by chimps that cant understand how removing unit selling while keeping unit loss based on insufficient income is fucking retarded

Hey so I've been trying to play multiplayer with my friend and every time either him or I try to join eachother's games it brings up something like,

"The host has a different version"

even though we both have the same version and no mods enabled. I also have no servers showing up in the list, what the hell is going on?

yeah, focusing production isn't going to help you keep up, you need to max out your encampments, or airports in your example, for the production boosts.

>>
>>160642394
theres little reason to get science stuff, most games you can be fine not making a campus until late in the game. theres probably no reason to aim for eurekas either, ive stopped doing it. all you ever need is production and gold, and maybe some faith if you want, since it can also become land units, and some other sick shit if you get Valetta or jesuit education. and you can contest AI religious victories.

science doesnt seem to mean much for warfare because that shiny new unit has barely more strength but much higher cost. in civ 6 it makes more sense to spam cheap units particularly when the AI flat out sucks at making any kind of army either in quantity or quality and easily gets swarmed.
>>
>>160636087
My last game was regular every setting, no mods, and the xenophobe AE had like 800k fleet power in the early 300's. It felt like my game had just ended but at his second thrall offer I was like 'Okay maybe an endgame crises will provide an opportunity some day and I wanted to see what a game as a subservient was like anyhow.'

Then he liberated a planet in my name then declared war on the protectorate he just made who I couldn't revoke my protection from because I was a thrall so I was forced to war him and then I started a new game.
>>
>>160635425
You shouldn't be allowed to fight against the best religion anon.

Civ VI needs more and better looking female leaders.
>>

>>
>>160646905
I consider having infantry while the AI is still on muskets or having nukes when they just discovered uranium is a thing is pretty fun.

And it's not really hard to do in VI, just either settle several cities and build the science buildings in each one or conquer the cities that already have them.
>>
>>160651823
Split your fleet up into several parts and simultaneously be bombarding all their worlds at once, even if for just a few seconds until you can pause the game and you'll have a decent amount of warscore.

Nuclear warfare is intense, I love it. Fully promoted tanks are a necessity to capture irradiated cities and withdraw out of them before taking radiation damage. Before my units were fully promoted, I only used nukes to take out enemy units, and I had to avoid hitting the cities themselves. Later in the game, I went thermonuclear on Brazil, which was a mistake because all my tanks died before they even reached Pedro's cities.

Sure and turn based strategy are kinda real time strategy games.

Grand Strategy games don't have to follow the four x'es. In a game like ck or hoi there's no eXploration and eXpansion afaik. eu4 has some exploration I guess, but the expansion is only really if you're a colonizer and even then it is extremely shallow even compared to the expansion of civ1.
>>
>>160683930
At least, they play similarly.
Grand Strategy Games are just 4X watered down, with a greater emphasis on diplomacy and warfare.

How Paradox managed to fuck up Stellaris is still beyond me. It's like they never even played a 4X before and made their game based on rumours of how 4X are like.

No.

10% gives you a 4% increase in yield.
Even on 20+ size worlds I've calculated that another mine gave me a higher yield than a happiness building.

It depends heavily on your other modifiers.
With more +% modifiers, like you already have some happiness, industrious, % from tech, then the extra % like happiness become less valueable and the hard yield from a mine become more valueable.

best probably aztec for the amenities and you can overcome the scaling of district cost.

probably anything can go wide but england, brazil, germany unique districts are all great. japan is good for spamming a bunch of small cities, lining up factory bonus, and farming faith which is a great currency for wide empires to supplement production, while also spamming religious buildings which scale linearly. rome can build a city almost anywhere easily including dry mountain areas, and supplement amenities with the bath, but the AI in the game is generally so bad at expanding that you can always find places to settle even without it, but theyre a strong choice. russia has natural wide bonuses, egypt and spain have spammable tile improvements.

i only play single player but i think sphinxes are great. they work well with flood plain or things with natural 3 yield.
i think food and growth in 6 are almost meaningless. theres so many ways to get a big army with production cards like press gangs and chivalry, professional army, theocracy. your shittier small cities with low hammer actually make the best harbor/encampment due to cards. the only reason youd want to stack food is to chase premium wonders.

Okay so I have discovered Sanctuary in my current game. I'm playing a 2 arm galaxy and I'm at the end of the arm as close to the center of the galaxy as possible, Sanctuary is only like 3 hyperlane jumps away from my home system. My ethics are Individualist, Materialist, Militarist and I'm a military republic. I'm essentially playing as high tech space elves since I also downloaded a mod that allows a ringworld for your homeworld. I am playing "tall" for as much as that is possible in Stellaris.

The question is what do I do with the primitives living on Sanctuary?

1. Invade each ring section, giving them culture shock but then taking control and getting my own pops to also move over so Sanctuary is a mix of different species and a galactic hub of commerce and inter-species relations (fitting since it's as close to the center of the galaxy as possible)
2. I can't purge them because of my ethics but I could bombard them out of existence and then colonize the world for my own.
3. Enlighten them peacefully and then the system becomes a rainbow of 4 different civilizations with their own sections of the Ringworld and then I vassalize them all.

What should I do guys? What would militaristic space elves that value individual choice/freedom but see no inherent spiritual value in life do?

Plasma? Really?

Why?
>>
>>160721263
You can't really go entirely wrong as long as you are a thinking person in how you design your ships.

For example fighters/bombers can be useful if you also load your ships with missiles and torpedoes, this way you overwhelm point defense and flak.

Go pure kinetics, mostly kinetic artillery + mass drivers with a few autocannons and flak and you really don't have to pay attention to whether or not you are facing an enemy with shields or armor.

Because they made tachyon lances an XL slot and didn't add any L only laser weapon lasers overall are kind of a weaker tree to go down. However, plasma + disruptors is a very effective weapon combo.

>Go pure kinetics, mostly kinetic artillery + mass drivers with a few autocannons and flak and you really don't have to pay attention to whether or not you are facing an enemy with shields or armor.

This is what I do, but I'm really only putting Kinetic Artillery on my Battleships.

Should I make it more common?

I feel like having two medium Mass Drivers or Autocannons will do more damage than one large Kinetic Artillery -- unless we're talking about the range advantage?
>>
>>160721263
Kinetics are the best starting weapon now and in general, the kinetic weapon lines will continue to serve you well as decent all-rounders.

If you don't plan on using Autocannons, at least research the Autocannon line anyway so that you can unlock Flak Cannons. Ditch Point-Defense for Flak Cannons as soon as you get them.

Lasers have been nerfed. Plasma Cannons and Energy Torps are your best friends in the energy weapons department. Disruptos are also probably not a bad idea, might want to stick one or two of them on a few ships to take down shields quicker.

Don't use regular Torps, they're only good against Spaceports.

My current loudout tends to be, Autocannons on Corvettes, Mass Drivers on Destroyers, Autocannons on Cruisers, and Kinetic Artillery on Battleships, with at least one Swarm Missiles and one Flak Batteries on Destroyers, Cruisers, and Battleships.
>>
>>160721912
Adding mass drivers or autocannons to a battleship isn't effective because the range difference between them and a kinetic artillery is so large.

Load battleships with Kinetic Artillery and use the other weapons for cruisers and smaller.

Since I'm autistic I like to stick to one weapon type so I'll only use kinetics or lasers or missiles so I like Kinetics the best because they have greater variance in weapons (mass drivers/autocannons/flak/artillery/XL giga cannon). Assuages my OCD having uniform weapon types.

What's more, when you plan a district's location, that instantly locks the number of hammers needed to finish it. You can plot down your acropolis immediately, then switch off and build the districts you need to get your city online first. When you get back to it, the cost will not have adjusted with all the advancements your civ made in the meantime.
>>
>>160732527
So district cost is based on your research level?
>>
>>160732917
It can depend:

http://civ6.gamepedia.com/District#District_Production_Cost
All districts, except for the Aqueduct and Spaceport, have a base cost of 60 Icon main production.png Production (scaled to your game speed). However, District construction costs are affected by other variables.

Specialty Districts
>The Specialty Districts are Holy Site, Campus, Harbor, Commercial Hub, Entertainment Complex, Theater Square, Industrial Zone, and Aerodrome. The Spaceport is also counted as a Specialty District for certain bonuses, but is not subject to these production cost mechanics.
>The cost of a district increases as you progress along the Technology and Civics tree. Cost increases linearly to +900% when all Techs or Civics are researched, whichever fraction is larger.
>District production cost is also affected through a comparison of how many of that type of district you have total in comparison to other players. If you have fewer of a given district than the average among all players, the cost of that district is reduced by 25% for you. Districts have the same cost between all of your cities at a given time. The cost of a district is set when you first begin production, even if you switch production and return to it later.

Neighborhood and Aqueduct
>The Neighborhood and Aqueduct (and their corresponding unique replacements) have a fixed cost based on game progression (2% increase per turn over base on Standard speed?). They are not affected by the number of identical districts built by you or by other players.

Unique Replacement Districts
>Unique Replacement Districts cost half as much as the districts they replace and do not require population to be built.

I actually love the realm divide, it makes the game challenging and yes Stellaris could really do with something like that. It's just that because it's challenging if you trigger it too early you are going to get raped hard. It doesn't matter if you know how to win battles if you're getting bum rushed from all sides and can't defend all your cities.

It is true that the AI actually knows how to get around the map in Shogun 2, there's nowhere safe to hole up. Satsuma and Choushuu are safe only in the early game, in late game all those port cities are just easy pickings, plus say good by to your trade lanes.
>>
>>160746052
Kinda. It knows how to blockade, always know where your ninjas are, and will sometimes ambush you.
>>
>>160745996
There's not much to sieges in Shogun 2 besides positioning, and the AI can be easily baited into making stupid decisions. I actually hate defending in Shogun 2 cause the AI barely responds to player actions and just mindlessly zergs the castle. Offensive sieges are more interesting since they actually move their troops around in response to you.

>Implying War Elephants aren't dumb clunky pieces of shit

Alexander figured that shit out after a single battle my dude.
>>
>>160749836
The Big Berthas had a sizeable role in allowing the Germans to smash through the Belgian forts as quickly as they did early in WW1. Maybe the war would have gone a little differently if the forts had slowed them down while the French and the Russians were racing to mobilize and the British were on the way.
>>
>>160750176
Even into india war elephants caused heavy losses to Alexander apparently.

Yet reading on the numbers they're only stated as 1000, and I fail to see how those are heavy losses.

Even stranger, apparently alexander had a mutiny in his army because of heavy losses at that battle.

we have a much more personal relationship to the president than you would a prime minister (assuming you are from a non north american country). It's a combination of them being the only national politician that's elected nationally (congress is a national institution elected locally) and our celebrity/hero worship and 24 hour cable news.

The president is in our homes during the state of the union speaking directly to us etc etc.

Also Americans just seem to have a fondness for colloquial names for things

What country are you from? Just curious.

Our president is both head of state and head of government so that creates an interesting conflict between us wanting them to be "presidential" and wanting them to get shit done and fight for the people who voted for them.

What most people don't realize is that the true power struggle in American politics isn't republican vs democrat it's congress vs the president while the judicial branch acts as a referee.

So which Wonders are worth building in Civ 6?
I kind of like the Pyramids, because of it's relatively low production cost. And 1 worker action is pretty rewarding in the long run. Also Petra is a must if you have enough desert tiles.
How about Chichenb Itza though? I personally don't think it's worth it, because I usually cut down rain forest tiles anyway if I don't have a science district next to them.

they dont have anything overly good that feels like a direct boost of power that you can build your strategy around. its just a lot of little things that add up to a decent civ if you use all of them. i think they are my favorite with england.

your choice at the start is either to found a religion and attack the other ones on your continent with conquistador.
otherwise you adopt the dominant religion on your own continent and then go attack religious civs on the other continent.
you have probably the most control of anyone in denying religious victories.
you can be a strong theocrat warmonger with your faith per turn.
you can be a colonialist expander that becomes very rich.
ideally you will do a combination of all of these things.
the extra remove heresy makes you feel very comfortable in keeping your cities in the right faith.

obviously you want to pick a continents map and not pangaea. your gpt and harbors(which you will want for +routes) will let you have a strong navy.

picked up MoO+MoO2 on the GoG sale a few weeks ago. Trying to get gud at MoO but I can't win on hard. I keep trying to turtle as humans and build up my planets and tech before building my fuckhuge armada. Doesn't matter that I have good relations with everyone, around turn 70 some asshole will come in and invade my undeveloped planets, right before I have the tech to transition past 1 laser fighters and into large warships. I can't sign non-aggression pacts, because whenever I do they try to take my hostile planets I don't have tech for yet (especially those rock bastards). Should I be more aggressive in the early game? All I want to do is sit back and be a jew with my trade routes.

Also, dosbox runs really slow on my computer. It's a toaster, so I didn't expect it to have trouble with 20+ year old games, but the framerate slows to a crawl in the later stages of the game. I didn't play MoO when it was new, so I have no clue whether or not this is a normal limitation of the game or if there's anything I can do to make it run faster.

well attacking is not always the same thing as conquering. you may take some cities, you may raze cities, you may not necessarily wipe them out or take their capital.

if the AI ever gets evolved beyond retard tier these are decisions you may have to make. though as it stands right now the conquistador itself it often enough to fully conquer one or multiple neighbors, being often a 74str musket against heathens, that doesnt need niter.

I've also never noticed the AI take advantage of neighbor's wars like this before, I would call it impressive if I also hadn't been preventing Germany from settling a third city by blocking/unblocking a direct route to where they want it with a scout for the past 30 turns
>>
why are civ 6 maps so shit?

Island maps are Fractal maps.

Continent maps are literally two blobs that run all the way from the top of the map to the bottom of the map leaving 1 single water tile before you hit the end of the bottom

Anyone know of a mod for Stellaris that comes with a premade map? I was thinking empires already carved out from each other, with varying degrees of technological advancement in different places, sort of to simulate the regions of space developing at different speeds. Bonus points for something that restricts movement so you can't send a single ship from one end of space to the other very easily.

It wouldn't be stupid if you could actually trust them. Demanding tribute is both realistic and good strategy, since the dom can get resources for free and the sub can continue existing instead of getting wiped out.

The problem here is that medieval savages will demand tribute from opponents who could easily genocide them, and probably you aren't actually buying anything by giving in. The AI will attack you even if you have a declared friendship.

The civ5 AI is just really weird at handling war.

the first time I beat deity was when I realized just declaring war with all other civs would make them stop trying to progress their tech and culture in favor of pumping out units all over the place (Island map). I just saved gold for a while, bought out as many citystates as I could, declared war against everyone and watched them spend all their time and effort harassing nearby citiystates. Then used my citystate votes to embargo everything I could, first standing armies, then going for the civ trades and for the first time I can ever remember, I saw AI with negative happiness and GPT.

Im new to the Civilizations Series, but im VERY interested in playing and learning the franchise after watching numerous livestreams and gameplay videos about Civ6.

Now...Im current PC is unable to run Civ6 (hopefully this will be fixed by the end of the year), However I can easily run the previous Civilization Games.

Ive heard great reviews of Civ 4 and Civ 5..

My Question is, as someone new to the series, which one is worth picking up and playing until Im able to play Civ 6....Civ 4 or Civ 5?

Both are on Steam with decent prices, while you can get the entire Civ 4 bundle (all DLC) for $30, while the base game of Civ 5 is $30 (while the Complete bundle is $50).

Civ V is newer and closer to VI in mechanics. IV is still great but it's closer to being a nostalgia game these days. Don't get V without also getting the DLC expansions though.

Git gud?

The AI is shit so you shouldn't have any problems.

Just remember these few things:

Build a SUPER early military, or else you will be run over by the barbarian scourge, and other civs will war you because you are an easy target, you don't stand a chance against deity at the very start of the game.

Build WIDE, as many cities as you can, they don't have to all be amazing. Also, don't settle too close to enemy civs or they will hate you and declare war. Be cautious there.

Don't accept their embassies. It gives them more information about you, which will consist of "Is far behind in tech, culture, gold, military" and only make them think less of you.

Send them embassies, they love it.

The rest of the game is playing catchup. The AI is awful so even if they run around with mechanized infantry and Anti Tank units, your cavalry and siege towers should run them over.
>>
>>160817882
>siege towers
>not just building an assload of siege weapons that can also kill troops

>>
>>160818076
A complete waste of time.
Get 4-5 cavalry and siege towers.

Siege weapons are worthless when you just ignore the walls completely.
>>
>>160818153
as I said, because they can also kill those troops that are coming to defend said city

I'd rather end up with a bunch of armies of rocket artillery than have a fucking siege tower laying about
>>
>>160818157
>they catch your spy
>offer 1 gold for his release
>they accept
>>
>>160818241
Well you can choose to do that, but it remains the sub-par option.

Siege towers are fucking dumb and they shouldn't be as good as they are, but that's how the game is balanced.

When I'm using tanks and helicopters to assault cities, I'm still using siege towers.

The turn a siege tower reaches a city, the city falls. One turn. Every time.

>>
>>160818650
You can just teleport them to another city with aproper sea connection.
>>
>>160818340
they don't even get a chance to defend the city because it's already taken over and bombarding them the second the tower reaches the adjacent tile.

>>160818484
Yup, it removes the effect of the wall completely. So melee units deal full damage to them as if they were undefended.

I start a war by preparing 3 siege towers so that I can rush them to the 3 nearest cities. Cavalry can swarm all over the place and kill defending units while the siege tower slowly approaches the city.

Usually they even have roads between their cities, I managed to capture 2 cities with 5 cossacks corps and 1 siege tower in a single turn earlier today.

Also had a helicopter army oneshot a 9 pop city with a single attack with a siege tower later that game.

Holy shit, I was playing on a huge size abundant resources pangaea map today and the nearest available oil to my civ was on the EXACT opposite side of the continent.

My civ was on the tundra to the southwest, while all the fucking way on the northeast, several tiles over the snow boundary, was the SINGLE only available oil resource. So I bought a settler and sent one towards it, it arrived 30 turns later.

There were 2 oil resources on the entire landmass (the other was in an empty desert on the southeast side, unused and locked between 4 different civs, so unreachable). No other civ had them either, I later spotted 3 oil resources bunched up off the coast of another civ when I got the satelite. I actually reached uranium tech before I managed to build my first oil unit.

And I had bougt 10 knight armies with faith in preparation for upgrading them to tanks. Completely wasted.

Do you guys always chop wood in Civ 6? (Do you remove other stuff like swamp and rainforests?)

What do the 100% bonus cards in your policy screen do? (100% for campus for example)

Does it increase the +2-3 science you sometimes get to 4-6 or does it make the districts around it better?

I sometimes chop wood and sometimes build lumber mills depending on if I'm in a rush with a wonder or district or not.

100% bonus means double the bonus for your districts. If you have a +2 production on your industrial district due to 2 adjacent mines, you'll get +4 production bonus etc.

Seriously. It's fuckin dumb.
Walls should naturally become obsolete and offer no bonuses against howitzers and modern era units. I'm fine with them providing benefits against early gunpowder but it's just retarded that tanks don't just ignore walls.

It should be
>battering ram stays the same, upgrades into sappers in the medieval era
>siege tower allows units to directly attack city at reduced combat power, don't have to deal with walls at all but not viable against large cities that have tons of hp where it'd just be better to bust down the wall first, great against smaller cities
>sappers deal bonus damage to walls making them very easy to destroy, great against large cities where siege towers are too slow
>pioneers replace both in the late modern/early industrial era, negating walls and castles entirely, also allow units to attack forts better
>combat engineers for computer era, ignore all city defenses and forts

I liked how Civ 3 handled cities the best honestly.
>Town - no defense boost to units inside
>Walls grant 50% defense boost
>City - walls no longer benefit, natural city defense 50%
>Metro - 100% defense boost

You can't make Siege Towers after you hit the industrial era. They just get removed from the production screen.

So make sure to build / buy your Siege Towers before they vanish, because you're going to need them later.

It's as if they expected siege towers to be useless after a certain point, and it simply didn't occur to the designer that walls worked against helicopters.

Theocracy is my favorite government. Playing as Russia with Dance of the Aurora I usually have around +500 faith per turn when I reach it. A Cossack costs 470 faith and a Knight costs 270. So I instantly buy knights/cossacks worth 10,000 faith and go from bottom tier army to 1000 combat strength over second place and steamroll my army over the entire globe.

Fucking love Russia in civ6.

Just beat my first game of Civ VI as the Aztecs, a religious victory.

I enjoyed it, but felt like there wasn't much challenge in the late game. After I'd converted the other few religious Civs in the early game I met no religious resistance at all converting the others and it was just a matter of time/distance.

But I WAS playing on Prince so who knows if it gets more exciting on higher difficulties.

On the higher difficulties religion is pretty much impossible unless you cheese it. You might have gotten lucky with civs that didn't have much of a religious bias.
