So. Fun time. Another 7-odd hour game. This went a lot better, I think.

This one started where the other left off, with the team chatting with Shadow Captain Shougu. Renya swapped out his Water and Fire scrolls for the two multi-Release catch-all scrolls. Arata did a pass-around and checked everyone's health, with everyone being relatively alright other than Renya, who was on 3HP, and got healed for 6. The Captain lit a cigarette and told the team that they'd need to move on soon, or a Jounin would come in and move them on. He said that they didn't do too badly, and he didn't expect them ignore the lights and simply attack him. He did caution, however, that sometimes better to give up an attack for a better position. Fugetsu said he was hankering for some fresh air, so the team agreed that it was time to move on. Shougu wished them luck, and they continued through the chakra gate.

As they passed into the final room, there were three blue circles on the ground, with power and electricity arcing off them, as well as a single yellow one, which gave off power, but a more calm, focused power. At the other end of the room, past large pieces of metal that had been impaled into the ground, stood a humanoid figure, but its body was made of metal instead of flesh, and it was frozen in place, held by some sort of field.

Renya used his Idea, and was told more or less how it played out - three players stand on the blue circles, one on the yellow. The one on the yellow gains a relic which is instrumental to defeating the Disciple Minotaur without getting wrecked. Everyone needed to hold the relic for at least one full game round for its full potential to be seen, and passing it to an ally was a Free Action.

As Renya, Waniko and Arata stood on the blue plates, power arcing all around them. Above Fugetsu, a rip appeared. Like something cut the universe open. Out of the tear fell a small box, about the size of a Rubik's Cube, into Fugetsu's hands. It was golden, and made of interlocking gears. It was the True Time, and Fugetsu added his anchor to it, strengthening the link of the Minotaur to the Vault. The lights on the plates died and the tear closed, leaving him with the True Time. As Fugetsu was inspecting it, the Disciple Minotaur started to move within his prison, and his form seemed to flicker, as if he was both there and not there, and the stasis field begins to break down.

Preparing for a fight, Arata dropped a Soldier Pill, and the team rolled Initiative. The turn order ended out as Arata, the Minotaur, Fugetsu, Waniko and finally Renya. Arata started his turn simply moving south from the platform of power behind the closest shard of metal, taking cover from the Minotaur. He decided not to Ready an action, in case he needed to use his Reaction later.

The Minotaur moved up in front of Fugetsu, who was closest on the yellow platform, and launched an attack, his living metal carapace warping into the shape of a broadsword in his right hand. He managed to hit with it, smashing Fugetsu aside with the flat of the blade, far faster than Fugetsu could react. After the attack had hit, however, the Minotaur stopped, as if analysing the result of the attack. Fugetsu took his Uncanny Dodge against it, and so only ended up taking 4 damage, instead of 8.

Fugetsu's turn started, and so did the one game round timer that he needed to hold the True Time for. The first thing he did was take the Soldier Pill as a Free Action, before Disengaging with one Action and moving faaaaaaaaaar away from the Minotaur with his other one.

Waniko moved 10ft forward into range, and decided to attempt Die Alone on it, since as essentially a humanoid machine, it would be unaffected by Genjutsu. However, the Minotaur rolled an 18, and as the sphere started to close around the machine, the Minotaur let loose a metallic roar and the air rippled around him, similar to how it looked when the True Time was summoned. The smoke milled around, stopped and started reversing, before fading out of existence. Waniko continued her movement after the failure, ending further away from the Minotaur.

Renya passed a DEX check and unsealed his spear as a Free Action, followed up by tossing it at the Minotaur. He missed by 1, though, and the spear glanced off the Minotaur's metal skin. The Minotaur turned to look at Renya and let loose a string of metallic screeches. He then moved north, ALSO away from the Minotaur. I showed the spear on the ground in case Renya wanted to grab it later.

Arata's turn two came around, and decided to climb one of the metal spars. He passed an Athletics check and scaled it, ending squished between the metal spar and the wall. He then moved north towards Waniko. He could only move half speed, as it was considered Difficult Terrain.

The Minotaur's turn was quick, simply moving and then Dashing north towards Fugetsu and Renya, roaring.

Fugetsu then dashed 60ft across the area over to Waniko, preparing to hand off the relic.

Waniko moved over next to Fugetsu and picked up the True Time, and then used Water Release: Hiding in the Rain Technique. She barely passed, but she managed, and faded into the rain.

Renya continued the trend of just running away from the Minotaur, backing himself up against the wall, and decided against using his second Action for anything,

Arata's third turn was essentially passed, as he just stayed in one place. Boring stuff.

The Minotaur moved back towards the spear Renya had thrown. He picked it up and looked at it, appearing to study or analyse it.

Fugetsu, done with the relic, moved back south towards the Minotaur, preparing to jump into the fray and keep the Minotaur amused while the rest of the team kept the relic rotating. He cast Water Shield to soak up any potential damage, and ended his turn in full view of the Minotaur. What a hero.

Waniko moved past Renya and threw the relic to him, adding another anchor to the True Time and strengthening the link, and then she Dashed a further 30ft to form up near Fugetsu.

Renya moved up 30ft towards Arata, preparing to hand off the Relic next turn, dashing to close the remaining distance. There has been A LOT of running around this fight, but the players were enjoying more, knowing more about what was going on probably helping.

The Minotaur took his turn, finishing analysing the spear. The living metal of his body flowed over it and, in moments, had assimilated it into his body. He held up the broadsword, which rapidly transformed into the spear. He moved up in front of Fugetsu and extended his hand. The air rippled around Fugetsu. For a second, several ghost-like figures of Fugetsu seemed to flow out towards the Minotaur. The first four all land attacks against the Minotaur, with the fifth missing, and the Minotaur counterattacking, smashing him against the wall. The Minotaur reached out towards the figure that missed the attack, and seemed to draw a line from it back to the 'real' Fugetsu. It lets out a garbled string of noise, as if confirming something. Fugetsu was hit by a debuff, so the next attack he made was at a Disadvantage, as the Minotaur selected the timeline in which Fugetsu was most likely to miss his next attack, and pulled him into it.

Fugetsu decided to immediately tempt fate and moved behind the Minotaur, launching an attack. Rolling a 19 and 18, he twisted fate and hit with the attack (picking them up a point), and smacked the fuck out of the Minotaur, showing him that he wasn't all that and causing 8 damage.

Waniko considered disarming the Minotaur, but decided that would not be a smart idea, considering he was 10 feet tall and made of metal. Instead, she decided drop the Hiding in the Raid Technique early, she charged forward into combat, hitting with her warglaive on a decent roll of 20, throwing off her shitty luck of the last fight, causing 13 damage, cutting deeply into the living metal and earning another metallic screech. She then drops her Soldier Pill, just in case.

Renya hands off the True Time to Arata and moves to the Minotaur's right and launches an attack with his naginata, catching the machine off-guard and landing a glancing blow on his side, causing 3 damage.

Arata, sick and tired of doing nothing, dashed across the area to take up space across from Renya.

The Minotaur, analysing his situation, decided to clear some space, and stomped a massive foot, cratering the ground, and sending out a huge shockwave. Fugetsu, Arata and Renya were all launched 20ft backwards, taking 2 damage each, and Renya slammed into one of the metal spars, taking an extra 1 damage. Happy with the room he'd created, the Minotaur crouched down, his shiny exterior turning opaque, and initiated his self-repair protocols. This, understandably, didn't go down well with the team, as, quoting Bink, "Is this bitch healing himself?"

Fugetsu decided, fuck it, it worked against the Shadow Captain, it'll work against this robot fucker, and moved in before launching an attack. He then proceeded to whiff it and roll a 4 to hit.

Waniko decided to follow her crush's lead and also charged in, doing a bit better, hitting with a 21 and causing 15 damage, taking the metal fucker down a notch and stumbling him. The opaque armour of the Minotaur started cracking.

Renya decided to step in and continue the mad beatdown, hitting with his naginata and taking off another 9 damage, but missed with a shuriken.

Arata's turn rolled around, and the True Time's gears started grinding, as everyone had held it once. It's gears rotate again, and the box flashed light. Even kneeling down and in the middle of repairs, the Minotaur let out a metallic scream as the light washed over him. His form shimmered, like he was trying to move or escape, but the True Time anchored him to this point in time. The Minotaur was stunned for two turns, and every attack caused an extra d6 damage. He charged in against the frozen Minotaur with his Kusarigama, and managed to hit on his second try, causing a pretty sad 4 damage.

The Minotaur screamed as he tried to break the temporal lock, but it held fast, as the True Time continued rotating.

Fugetsu decided to finish things. He stepped back and summoned five fireballs with the Phoenix Sage Fire Jutsu, launching them at the Minotaur's back. The first four hit within inches of each other, and after the fourth, the living metal was cracked, pitted and peeling. The fifth fireball blasted the stressed metal apart, burning through into the heart of the metallic beast. With a final screech, the red glow in the Minotaur's eyes flashed, faded and died. There was silence, save for the creak of cooling metal.

There's more, but it'll have to wait. I'm going to sleep.

As the Minotaur stopped moving for good, another plate appeared, similar to the other ones, but larger, and red. The four of them, sick and tired of the underground, decide to step in. Once they're all in, the plate flashes, and once their vision cleared, they looked around. They were back aboveground, in the arena, with thousands upon thousands of people cheering at them. Around the edges of the stadium, there are massive monitors, some showing Genin who were still taking the test, some showing highlights of the Exam the team just finished. Looking around, the team saw Team Shinki sitting against the wall, not too far from them. Araya noticed them and raised a hand.

The four of them wandered over to talk to Shinki, Araya and Yodo. Shinki said it was impressive that they had all made it through, and that they may have underestimated the team. Fugetsu said that wouldn't be the first time someone did that, and Arata asked if Shinki knew why they were all from different clans, and Shinki shrugged and said he could assume. Arata decided to get snarky, saying it was because they were the best, but he didn't see any Suna headbands among them. Araya nudged Shinki and said he was considered, but the Kazekage wanted to keep him close, in Sunagakure. Yodo just glared at Arata, with Shinki pointing at the viewscreen behind the team, which was showing the moment Renya blew himself up, saying that yes, they certainly were a better calibre of ninja.

Arata doubled down, saying that if a Village only has one good ninja, it'd make sense for the Village not to want to let him go. Waniko is beginning to look a little on edge, and Fugetsu asked if that Rage Potion from earlier completely wore off. Shinki stepped forward, his Iron Sand cloak raising around him, and Araya slowly put his hand on his sword hilt, adjusting his mask.

Shinki asked if they really wanted to do this now. Waniko quietly said no, and Fugetsu said he wasn't going to get attacked because of a poor comment Arata made. Shinki turned to Arata and asked again, with Arata offering a non-apology of saying he wouldn't dare go against the wishes of his team. Fugetsu tried to placate the Suna Team, saying that everyone was a bit on edge, and that, in answer to Yodo saying it was easy because there was four of them, their Exam had been handicapped to make it even. Shinki just pointed at Fugetsu and told him to keep his team in line, before moving away. Waniko questioned why everyone always just assumed Fugetsu was team leader.

As Fugetsu was chastising Arata, the centre of the arena flashed again, and Boruto, Sarada and Mitsuki appeared, slightly confused and blinking in the sudden light. Sarada seemed to be limping, and Mitsuki had burns down his left arm, but they were mostly ok. The three of them moved over to the other team, with Sarada commenting on that they made it through. Fugetsu said that with a team made up of people like Sarada and Boruto, they were probably favoured to win, but if it was as difficult as theirs, it was still an achievement. Arata said it seemed that the patient (Boruto) was doing better, but it seemed someone else was injured, and asked what happened. Sarada shrugged it off, saying she just cause a Lightning Release technique, but it'd be fine. Mitsuki said he was fine as well, thanks for asking, and Arata said he didn't need to be carried over here. Sarada glared at Mitsuki and said she didn't need to be either.

Waniko said that the team must be pretty close, and that she'd pretty much have to be dying for HER team to actually carry her anywhere. Sarada blushed slightly when Waniko said that the team was 'close', but Boruto didn't notice. Fugetsu said that it'd likely be because the rest of the team would be fighting over it if she hadn't been hurt that bad, with Arata slipping in saying that he'd say he's carried her before, proving that Arata's ruthlessness has no bounds. Fugetsu said that their teamwork was pretty decent, considering that they were all from different Villages, and Arata said they all had their limbs, which is more than they could say for some teams.

There was another flash, and Team Shikadai appeared, a bit worse off than Boruto's team, but still standing. Fugetsu commented that the gang was all here, and as the team walked over, Inojin tossed the sword back to Renya, thanking him, saying that it saved his skin more than once. Shikadai asked how they all went, and the team pretty much said they think they went alright, they're all in one piece, and Waniko said she hoped that the powers that be thought they worked well together. As they're talking, there are more flashes in the arena, and more teams appear, although they don't recognise them. Finally, eight teams in total made it through.

Soon after the last team came through, the monitors all turned blank, before showing "The first half of the Iwagakure Chuunin Exams are complete!" The crowd goes absolutely nuts as the announcer indicates the end of the first portion of the exam, and requested that all Genin moved to the front of the arena, near the stage where the Tsuchikage was standing. She addressed the teams, congratulating them on making it through the first part of the Exams, and saying that there will be a three day break before the second, and final, portion began. It was to be standard team-on-team combat, with the matches already drawn up based on team composition and results from the first half. Indicating the screens, Team Boruto was matched up with Team Fugetsu (like you didn't already know that was coming). Kurotsuchi stressed again that just because they passed the first, or even second, part of the Exam doesn't guarantee Chuunin status. Fugetsu commented that it looks like they're going to have a rough time of it right to the end.

Kurotsuchi motioned to Jounin to escort the Genin teams from the arena, and the teams were moved off out large gates, as the crowd lost their shit again. As the Konoha teams left the gate, they saw most of the people from Konoha who came along with them, waiting for them, and they started cheering as the three teams came out. Hinata looked a bit embarrassed that Naruto was acting like a child - since he was Hokage - but she was smiling nonetheless.

And that was pretty much it. We haven't done much today. Mostly talking shit while I've been doing this.

I'm probably going to start the summaries now, because it's been slow. This will be very short.

The team has more or less just been chatting to various people. First, two Fujita clan members, who had come along at Usui's behest, came up to the team, congratulating them on their Exam. It was more or less small talk, with them saying that they had been to Iwagakure before under 'different circumstances', and that they had watched Arata drop the Warmaster with his kusarigama. Arata said his sensei had trained him well, and when they asked who his sensei was, he pointed out Sakura. They were a little surprised, but agreed it made sense, considering how often he bailed his team out with his healing. One of them looks over his shoulder and nudges the other, before quickly saying their goodbyes and moving off.

As they left, Naruto and Hinata came up, with Naruto looking at the two Fujita. He, too, congratulated them on their success in the first part, and gave a heartfelt thanks to Arata for patching up Naruto in the Founts. Hinata said that they knew the Jounins wouldn't let Boruto bleed out, but Naruto looked like he was going to jump down there himself anyway. Arata asked what was the point of the training if they don't help anyone, and Hinata agreed, saying that they watched them fight, and that they were all very strong. Naruto, before heading off, remembered that he was shouting everyone from Konoha a party tomorrow night, as a sort of mixed congrats/hey-you-didn't-die sort of gathering.

The team look around as Naruto and Hinata wander off, and they see Kakashi and Ilya walking side by side. Kakashi looks chill, as he always does, but Ilya seemed fidgety. Renya passed an Insight check to see if anything was skew-whiff with the two Fujita he saw before, and that they looked a bit shifty just before Naruto rocked up, and that Arata has been very careful around Naruto for a while. He then rolled a Stealth check to see if he could head to the few Shimura he saw wandering around earlier. He snuck off only Waniko spotting him.

Renya said hi to his clansmen and asked what they knew about the Fujita. They responded by saying they knew that the Fujita were toxin specialists, were always getting in others' businesses, and that they had butted heads with the Shimura a few times, as well as saying that there were rumours that the higher portions of the clan aren't happy with the new Hokage. Renya apologised for them having to come out, but they didn't mind, saying that their head of House is trying to get more inter-House cooperation going, and so they put their hand up to attend. He bid them goodbye and headed back to the group.

In the meantime, the team had been chatting with Kakashi and Ilya. They had passed on their congratulations as well, with Ilya commenting that Waniko had whiffed several attacks that her team had set up for her. Waniko later said that she had not looked like she was in a good mood and that she looked uncomfortable, which confused Ilya, who blushed and glanced at Kakashi. Waniko - and the rest of the team - caught on, and we left it with the team trying to hook up Ilya and Kakashi, playing matchmaker.

As an aside, we got some extra details regarding the Shimura and Fujita. As it is, they seem to be more or less polar opposites: the Fujita are very outgoing, liking poking their noses into other peoples' business and seeing what's going on. The Shimura, on the other hand, are very introverted. After Danzo 'died', the clan went through an overhaul, splitting down into several Houses, with elder Houses holding more rank. The eldest House is the families that were part of the clan back when Danzo was around. The second House is from ex-ROOT members who joined the clan once Danzo was gone. The last House is made up of orphans who were brought into the clan and sponsored by ROOT operators. As such, many of them hold allegiance to the ROOT House over the clan as a whole, but several of the Younger House think that loyalty should be to the clan, and not who brought them in. Renya is part of the Younger House (I think, Nero, feel free to correct me)

Summary time. I have no distractions, so today's summaries might be a bit better than yesterday's. That, and I wiped the archive, so I don't need to trawl through shit to find where I was anymore.

We pick up where we left off yesterday - with the team attempting to be Kakashi's collective wingman. Waniko awkwardly pushed on with her questioning of Ilya, asking what Kakashi was wanting to know about the Shimazu, before saying (almost to herself) that she should probably leave them alone to finish their conversation. Ilya started fidgeting again and said that he was just asking about what the clan was like, how Deliverance was, how long she was going to be on the mainland, that sort of thing. Waniko said she liked hearing about that sort of stuff as well, and asked how long she was planning to hang around for, asking if it'll be a while. Ilya smiled and said she wasn't sure, but it'd be as long as Lord Shimazu needed her to, and it would be at least as long until the (she paused, with a glance at Kakashi) 'Lord Zed' problem is finished. Waniko looked a bit worried at the mention of Zed and said it might be a while, before brightening up. Ilya said they'll need to wait and see, but she couldn't really talk about it right then, and Waniko had to focus on the Exams. Waniko promised to do her best, and team left the two of them alone.

The Konoha group reached the hotel where they were going to be staying. Naruto took charge and got rooms and keys sorted - payment was taken care of by the Tsuchikage and Iwagakure's coffers. Before they got there, Waniko asked Renya about the people she saw him wander off with before. Renya told her straight - they were just clansmen, and he didn't know them that well, and since it'd be awkward enough for him alone, he didn't feel like dragging them in. Arata wondered out loud if they specifically chose clan members that he and Renya didn't know very well, and Waniko asked if they came to congratulate him on making it through.

Elaboration on the clans, because I liked these analogies:

The Fujita are a clan of frat bros with inferiority complexes, they were likened to the PC frat from south park. The Shimura are the muslims after the death of muhammed; only unified by their jingoism and love of their glorious dead leader.

On the contrary, Renya said they had chastised him for being reckless. Arata made light of it, saying that hey, at least it worked. Fugetsu said he was glad that they were across the continent from Kirigakure, saying he would rather not have the added pressure of any of his family present. Waniko conceded that they could've done things a little better, but they all made it through, and that is what mattered. Renya put the thought from his mind, saying that the team needs to get some rest and restock for the second half of the Exam. The others agreed and said they'd tag along.

Rather than drag Kakashi and Ilya around again, Renya instead decided to simply ask one of the hotel staff where the market district was, and after getting directions, the team set off. They four of them wandered around Iwagakure, following the directions the staff member gave Renya. They got a few weird looks - partly because of their mishmash of different headbands, but mostly because they were all still scratched, beaten, bruised and bleeding from their fight in the Vault. After a little while, they reach the market district and take a look around. Everything was open late due to the Chuunin Exams, and people were bustling around, getting dinner, shopping, or generally loitering with friends. The team saw a few people they didn't recognise with headbands from different Villages, and the Iwagakure townsfolk shot them cautious looks every now and then. The players were OOC praying they didn't meet Shinki and get Gaara'd.

Ignoring the mass of people, the team wandered until they found something that looked like a weapons store, and went inside. Looking around, it seemed like a pretty basic sort of weapons shop, certainly not somewhere ninja would come for if they were looking for specialist weaponry. The attendant looked over as they entered, and was momentarily surprised at how they looked, before asking 'Chuunin Exam?', which Fugetsu confirmed.

Renya got right to business, asking if the shop sold explosive tags. The attendant took a look out back, saying that he mostly got cleared out, because of the Exams. He rummaged around out back, as Arata handed over his last one to Waniko. The attendant came back, saying he had ten tags left. Renya bought five and Waniko bought three, setting them back 80 and 48 Ryo, respectively. Fugetsu restocked his kunai - five for 50 Ryo, and Renya decided to branch out, and picked up a shortbow for 185 Ryo, with another 20 going to five arrows, and final 20 going towards a 20-arrow quiver. First time for everything, I guess. Even if all his jutsu, and his naginata (which he now has Proficiency with) are all close-ranged weapons. I might put in some negative modifier for using things like bows at super close ranges anyway.

Finishing up at the weapons store, the team decided to head for a book store, because they're all fucking nerds. The wandered down the street, working their way through the throng of people, until they found what they were looking for. Heading inside, Arata asked the assistant where books on plants were, because he's a turbonerd. The assistant pointed him to where they were, and asked if the others wanted anything. While they were deliberating, Arata found what he wanted and came on back, picking up a book about plantlife in the Land of Earth for 60 Ryo.

Waniko looked around and saw a book that she had seen Kakashi reading. She brought it to the assistant and asked how much it was. The assistant raised an eyebrow and asked where she heard about the book from. Waniko was a little surprised, but said she had seen someone reading it and thought it would make a good gift. Keep in mind at this point, she didn't know what the Icha Icha series was about. The assistant looked amused, and asked who Waniko knew that was reading it. She answered that it had been her tutor. The attendant chuckled and asked if her tutor happened to have grey hair.

Waniko confirmed that she was, and said that, now that she thought about it, Ilya and Kakashi would make a nice couple. Fugetsu called her out on the 'now that she thought about it', saying that it was pretty obvious that she had been thinking about it for a while now. Waniko simply said that she must just have good instincts. The assistant laughed again and said Waniko was too innocent, and that she wished she could see when Ilya saw the book. It was 40 Ryo for the book, or 200 for the six-book box set. Waniko just got the first book to begin with, shelling out 40 Ryo. The assistant offered to wrap it, as it was a present, and Waniko accepted. They said goodbye to the assistant, who said that Waniko should come back and tell her what Ilya thought of the present. Before they left, Renya asked about any specialist ninja stores nearby, specifically, ones that sold Soldier Pills. The assistant thought for a second, and told them that there was one just down the road. The team thanked her, and left the store.
