Cheap wards are not only good on curve. Fitting in a veteran lancer in later turns is the difference between losing and winning because they have to expend an evolution point to bust through it and go face with storm followers.

In sword, Veteran Lancer, White Paladin, Aurelia, Alwida, Frontguard and Charlotte are all good wards.

You have Ancient elf as the most broken card in the game which is also a ward on top of Crystalline Tia in Forest. Death's Breath which is one of the three cards keeping Shadow just barely afloat. Spartoi Soldier is also pretty good, Heavenly Hound is good. and others that decent but in currently weak archetypes like Queen Vampire, Imprisoned Dragon, Neptune and Juno's Lab.

The only ward that was somewhat pushed out by DoD was Goblinmount, and that had a lot more to do with the decks that ran it becoming weak like Ramp Dragon and Satan Haven.

That's what I hate about Midrange Sword. It's pretty much just a goodstuff deck stacked with ridiculously good legendaries that are ridiculous no matter what the situation. You can at least make the argument that Forest's Tia requires setup to be able to Fanfare before Turn 7 and Ancient Elf requires minions to get bounced to be good and you can't have two on the field at once (not to take away from the fact that both are absurdly good cards). Aurelia and Otohime are just fucking ridiculous at all times.

Elf is broken, because she's a combo piece, and near impossible to answer a big one on turn 2, 3, and 4 without massive card advantage and tempo lost. Tia is broken, because of the rush, and the "answer both bodies or you're be taking 6 damage and the 1/1 will get bounced" components. Alwida is good, because it pushes face damage or acts as removal, on top of putting a ward. Charlotte is bad, Frontguard is good, but too slow in a lot of cases, he'd be godly at 6 PP. Death's Breath isn't good ward follower, because it's a spell, and it's conditional. Queen Vampire is a shit ward follower, because there isn't a single deck in the game that doesn't run Angelic Barrage. Juno's is slow, Neptune is DoD fodder shit just like Goblinmount.

Only good pure ward followers are Aurelia, and the ones that cost 3 and under. Cheap ones shouldn't be counted for late game scenarios, even if they're effective once evo points run out. We need them to print worthwhile big wards, because they made the unsticky multiple body/hexproof/last word ones unplayable when they made DoD. 4, 5, and 6 PP should be the slots they aim for, turn 7 onward is far too fucking late for a ward follower, because ward is an anti aggro tool first and foremost. If they want to make an 8+ PP ward follower it needs to be equally busted, like hexproof with last words levels of busted.

It's pretty good. You got one of each of the staple Forest cards except Cynthia, one Vania which is need for aggro bat, Elana's Prayer for being an asshole, and Bloody Mary and Azazel for memes. It would have been nice if you could have gotten one more staple legendary, but this is a decent start. Depends on what deck you prefer. If you want Forest, then this is a great start.

I use 2x Charlotte in control sword and hit master with the list, she's fine and good. Frontguard is incredibly impactful as both a sticky follower and a ward, he comes out fast enough to completely seal the game against decks like aggro blood as long as I'm at a high enough hp not to die from direct burn, DoDing him is pointless for an aggro deck unless they somehow still have board control by 7.

Saying Death's Breath isn't a ward because it's a spell is pointless semantics, it is a ward and is used as a ward. Queen Vampire is not shit, dropping her on 6 and getting responded to by Angelic Barrage is fine. Wasting half your turn at 6 to remove 2 bats is a good trade when it doesn't even kill the queen, and she did her job slowing the opponent down anyway in that scenario and they still need to answer the queen on the board.

Juno is probably one of the cards keeping Earth Rite playable to any degree at all. It's great, Earth Rite just has huge issues with card draw. Neptune is not DoD fodder because you will most certainly be evolving her in most cases as a tempo swing and she's always run in ramp Dragon.

It's actually not easy at all to deal with a queen evolved to a 6/6 that swings into something and removes it while simultaneously being protected by the 2 bats. You basically have to use a spell to remove her and lose tempo unless you were ahead to begin with.

Vampire Queen is fine as is. She spawns bats and gives all bats wards. She has 6/6 worth of stats spread across three bodies of a relevant typing and the little shits block your opponent from what they really want to kill. If they use an angelic barrage then they've used a card to deal with half of your card, which is a good trade for you. She's been played in tournament decks that have placed high. Just because Control Blood isn't great doesn't mean the card itself is bad. And need I remind everyone that Control Blood was once tier 1 and you fucking bet they ran 3x Queen Vampire. I feel like everyone who talks about how bad Queen Vampire is has never actually played the card and is solely basing their opinion on the fact that Control Blood is low tier.

Queen Vampire should be 5/5, give bats +1 def, or spawn 1 more bat, she just needs something extra to justify the 6 PP price in a class that isn't particularly board dominant. She's insanely underpowered compared to Otomeme and even Death's Breath, and only sees play, because she's Blood 's only playable legendary. Mary is good, but Mary requires you to live long enough to actually use her for something other than a 4/5 body, which is extremely mediocre when Seraph, D.Shift, and PtP can win the game outright on turn 9 tops instead of just "deal 12 damage or so".

I would gladly swap Otohime out for her in Control Sword. Otohime's weakness is that despite her ability to flood well, that's literally all she does. If you're behind on board she is a godawful card to be holding onto. For Control Sword, being behind on 6 is not unrealistic and I value having 2 wards up way more than I do a bunch of 1/2s that just get cleaned off for free unless I'm already ahead. I'm not saying Otohime is worse than her, but the comparison is bad because they don't aren't played for the same reasons. If I want to aggressively push my advantage in a faster deck, then Otohime is better, but if I want to protect my board/myself, then Queen Vampire is better.

This is actually the correct comparison to make to Queen Vampire. Defensively, Death's Breath is obviously better because 3 wards are better than 2 and 2/3s are bigger than 1/1s. Queen Vampire is a better evolution, however. Evolving Death's Breath means turning a zombie into a 4/5 which doesn't trade too well on turn 6, while a 6/6 with Queen Vampire can generally well into most anything at that point. Furthermore, she herself doesn't have ward which is actually a boon offensively because it forces the opponent to use a spell to remove her instead of just running something into the Queen like they would an evolved zombie. Death's Breath still tends to be better, but Death's Breath has a resource cost and is one of the best cards in the game in a vacuum, so I'd hardly call Queen Vampire bad in comparison.

Queen vampire doesn't "just" stall. You can't afford to take a lot of face damage from Control Blood just by the nature of their win conditions (Bloody Mary, Temptress Vampire.)

If they evolve the Queen and trade into something, you literally need to remove the queen or else it's going to get another good trade or swing at your face for 6 which will often just seal the game, which means you have to use a spell - a tempo loss, or break through the bats, which would require 2 followers to already be on the board on top of an evolution/storm to hit the queen herself.

I've played other card games than Hearthstone, like Magic and shit. I started playing HS simply because it was free and easy. But eventually I got fed up because as expansions released the game just got worse and worse and worse and the dominant playstyle more and more became aggro and midrange while combo/control, which are my favorites, were left in the dust.
When I saw Shadowverse for the first time I loved the mechanics; specifically I saw Runecraft and I thought spellboost coolest shit. So I signed up for the beta, but never got in. Then when the game finally released months later I picked it up ASAP and fucking loved it; and at this point I had already stopped playing HS due to frustration. The lack of RNG combined with the more complicated mechanics and diverse classes made the game such a breath of fresh air after Hearthstone

I remember starting heartstone on release as a long time MTG veteran and getting really really frustrated with it. It felt like a dumbed down MTG that takes away a lot control from you. When I started SV, the evolve mechanic actually felt like I could respond to plays and ultimately felt a lot better.

Hearthstone cards are designed very deliberately, it's just not designed to be a good card game. It's a spectator sport where you watch monkeys go mad, half the fanbase plays it because they walk into the room and see the other monkeys doing it, and the other half only stay around so that they can look down on those monkeys from their high trees even though they're just as guilty of letting the cruelty continue.

I think the "spin the wheel" rng-based gameplay is the thing that keeps sucking in gambling addicts. Plus, well, pack opening.
