I think BLT weapons (all two of them) got screwed in terms of scaling. One form scaling with strength or skill and the other scaling with bloodtinge makes it tough to max out both and stay within level meta the way other split scaling weapons can. They have to make additional tradeoffs in addition to frenzy and health drain. I don't even use them, but I don't think it's right. Very unfair!

Just completed the game for the first time. Got the ending where you replace Gehrman. Kinda underwhelming imo, I know you're meant to replay though...

I saved while I was back in Mensis, around level 95. The last bits of the game were pretty easy, especially with Ludwigs+9. I'm at 40 end, 30 strength, 25 skill, and around 10 for blooding/arcane.

Will I be overlevelled for the Old Hunters DLC? and is it too late to start investing in Arcane? I'm thinking of switching from Ludwigs to Tronitrus, Chikage or the Wheel - all at +7.

40 End is a huge waste so if you don't care about staying within meta level Arcane however high you want, Hunter Tools scale well all the way to 99. Chikage's tricked mode is Bloodtinge, so don't use it unless you have 50 Bloodtinge or high Skill for untricked which is mediocre. Start the DLC now or with a new character around 60-70+.

DLC is pretty tough and overleveling isn't really a problem unless you have over 50 Vit and/or FRC Chalice Dungeon gems. You should be good starting it right now, 50 is the cap people stop at for damage stats but you don't have any there so you won't do massive damage.

Ludwig Blade is pretty boring so I'd advise using a different weapon to get a better experience, there's plenty to choose before fighting the first DLC boss.

Damage isn't the be all and end all of a weapon. Ludwig's has the highest base damage of any weapon, but it's fucking boring, who wants to use a greatsword in a game full of amazing and inventive weapons? The cane is incredibly weaker, but has reach, speed and a tricked serration bonus. The DLC whirligig saw pretty much trivializes most encounters.

There's a ton of incredibly interesting and equally powerful weapon out there.

Wheel is slow and it is short, but it can hit like a truck. The tricked moveset is actually better, at least in my opinion, but the untricked charged R2 can knock enemies on their asses. It's a weapon with very high damage potential. Best thing you can do with it is dash R1s for its quickest attack, or just let the enemies come to you.

Each point of damage reduction listed on armour is equivilent to 0.1% mitigation. So it does make a bit of difference (100 rating peice of armour mitigates 10% of damage) but it's not huge values. However Poison and Frenzy resist is very important for areas with that status affect.

However after Blood Starved Beast you should have starting clothes, Hunter Set (with cape), Yharnam Hunter Set, Gasgoines Set, Hunter set (capeless and top hat) and Charred Hunter Set.

Every single one of them is better than the starting clothes, and looks cooler too.

That's only a Dark Souls 3 thing.

In BB an empty slot is just x1 on your current damage reduction. For example if you are wearing a hat with 50 dr, a garb with 100, gloves with 30 and boots with 40 your final damage reduction will be

1.05*1.10*1.03*1.04 = 1.24

So if damage (after defense, which is a different stat and formula entirely) was 100 you would take 100/1.24 = 80 damage. Considering some hits are 1000+, being able to reduce that to 800 is fairly important.

Remember this is from DAMAGE REDUCTION, which comes from armour. DEFENSE is a different stat with a very complicated formula, defense comes from levelling up.

Rite keepers (the guys in Chalice's that look like Emu-people) have a move that gives any enemy in a radius a red-aura Buff. This gives them hugely increased damage and (maybe?) defensive stats. But also raises the rating of gems they can drop by +1.

Regular mobs can drop rating 16-18 gems instead of 15-17. Since Watchers are just 3 mobs with a big health bar, it's possible that a Rite Keeper could buff them through the fog wall (the radius on the buff is huge) and give them a red aura, and hopefully cause 18-20 gems to drop instead of 17-19.

I tried testing it, but you need multiple people. One to fight the Watchers (and kite them to doorway) and the other to (non lethally) keep the Rite Keeper as close up fog gate as possible and keep baiting out the buff move. The second part is easy, I managed to keep one in place and it kept trying to buff stuff even though around it was even alive. But it fucked off once I started the boss.

A team of people could do it though, beast roar to keep him in place without hurting him while the host gets Watchers to go near the door and into the buff radius.

The saw cleaver/spear has a hidden modifier called serration, this cause a +20% damage boost against any enemy classified as beast (which is the vast majority of the bosses and enemies in the game). On top of that it has good base damage, fast speed, and decent range.

There's nothing to respect, the only decent untricked moveset is the bowblade's. Sure you can catch a few people unaware but otherwise you're either a very high leveled dude with 50str/50skl and 50bt so you can hit for a decent 400 with an r1, or you're doing slightly higher than base damage at 25/25 and 50bt with a shitty moveset basically counting on people not expecting you to use something so garbage.

If you want to access your gun at any instant then learn to properly space so you aren't in a situation where you'd need to use your gun immediately. The untrick for chikage takes no time at all and the letters untrick is only slightly longer.

Also for viscerals, it's actually more beneficial for chikage users to unzip on someone who got parried as long as you have 27/27/31 or better. After the unzip you also get a free r1 and it's completely ridiculous.

Do you even know how to use the chikage? Going between tricked and untricked is incredibly fast and you should only really be tricked when you're attacking.

It's not about that at all. It's about being able to be at full power in any situation. If you build yourself to favor the BLT mode, you're encouraging yourself to avoid using your guns, which is lessening the value of your BLT investment. Players who key in on this will be able to abuse it by playing keep away with you or rushing you down when you decide to start using your gun.

You should want to be a threat in any situation.

I've got a like fucking 4. I'm literally currently right in the middle of finishing off a Bowblade build for early/mid game co-op. Shit, my Bloodletter could actually use more STR. That way she'd have access to 50 BLT Gatling Gun/Cannon. I kept her at 25 because I didn't want to use them.

And besides, it's silly to put gems on the chikage that aren't BLT because the main method of attack on it is an unzip that you can mixup with r1s/r2s with various timings. I have 25skl on my blt build and it's completely useless, even if I gemmed it up with 27/27/31 the untricked would just deal shit damage and the tricked would suffer a heavy AR drop. All you do when trying to have a balanced BLT weapon is water down both parts of it for no reason.

Are there non-boss enemies that drop 25~26% physical gems?

I dont have the motivation to farm boss gems on a second character.

You can go with both. You have enough Chunks to get ~4 weapons to +9 in a normal playthrough.
