Well it's not an AAR as such.

Johan wants to create Believable Worlds, right?
I am thinking of doing a project to create an alternate Believable World.

Not like an alt history where Napoleon won or Hitler died in WW2, I mean a fully fledged, artificial world with its own history and geography. And it will be as autistic as it gets, I will start with tectonic plates to determine continents (with /gsg/'s input of course), then place accurate climate zones and biomes on it. And continue until we come up with an accurate starting position in 4000 BC. From there it's more fiction than fact.

This can all be done with photoshop, with different layers for different 'mapmodes', hiding the unused ones. And changing the transparency can have 2 at once.

I made a flowchart for Phase 1.
>Phase 1: Pre-human history, creation of world, creation of basic culture groups influenced by race and geography. Ends at the first cities ~3000BC and first nations.
>Phase 2: Ancient Era, the spread of basic technology (like the wheel) and cultures more defined. Ends at point, roughly ~500AD, where at least one continent is 90% civilised.
>Phase 3: History. From here on it's a simulation of wars, empires, people, religion, dynasties. Ends at current year. The Believable World is finally finished.

If people are interested I will be constantly taking and adding ideas from other people. It is collaborative.

Were I you I'd jump on Portugal as soon as I could, since England is going to be tied up with France at the moment. Spend the interim fabricating claims on your neighbors and trying to get an alliance with the Mamluks (they'll be more helpful for you at first than the Ottomans will). Not likely. I don't actually remember if England starts at war with France in the more recent versions (I actually think they don't), but even if you wait for the inevitable war to start off (and you should) and England's fleet is slightly distracted, it's still massive. If it travels south even just once it could destroy your entire navy, and that's completely ignoring the likely outcome that Portugal allies Castile and/or Aragon, which would result in you getting mass-invaded by Iberians even if England was locked in the HYW. It might be that you actually need to wait for the Iberian powers and England to be distracted simultaneously somehow.

With that said, if you can find a situation like that, trying to seize Portugal's colonies might be a risk you want to take. I think their outpost in your territory has a fort, so it should allow you to take other territory if your WS ticks up above ten. If you can seize their territories it'd slow down their colonization and boost yours greatly, but the problem is that the Azores are going to be out of coring range for you at game start, so you'd have to wait quite a while to be able to core it. And that's aside from Castile still holding the Canaries, and Castile is the real colonial threat.

Notice how the plates grow from a few fault lines?
And how the plates that don't grow are slowly absorbed back into the Earth along a mountain less border? (ex: phillipino plate), or they create mountains (ex: North Indian plate, Nazca palte).

Plates that do grow either cause friction with another plate (Pacific plate), or result in continents and mountains if the forces are somewhat balanced (African plate)

Point taken. I will merge some plates to end up with ~7 large plates and ~3 smaller ones.

Also, I know plates can move away from eachother but these cause ridges/mountains, as the magma fills in the gap. These ridges (like the Atlantic one) can still be underwater however, as are a lot of the other ridges and valleys. Which is why the map as it exists so far is a little misleading.

so i'm playing a game as venice, and rather than blob or something else i'm just trying to be rich and spread my family name through marriage and/or boning. pic related - 3 duchies in italy are all my family as well so far.

its fun just sort of staying low and focusing on internal affairs while making sure that the basileus is rich so he can do whatever he wants. strangely the whole world seems to be stable, francia lasted for nearly 200 years before germany finally split off, meanwhile england is a clusterfuck and wales, ireland, and scotland are the major players on the island. wessex is a fucking theocracy that controls the papacy.

i like the way history unfolds in these games even if it is sometimes dumb and makes a lot of border gore.

The problem I have with playing that way(As in, the way you're suppossed to play) Is that unless a character is one of special interest, I can't keep track of them, it's so annoying to to read the log and then having to check the edger eery five minutes for 10 minutes. It's funny you should mention that, I always try to give my industry a strong base from which to grow and these factories are almost guaranteed to be profitable.

This probably won't get a (You's) but I've been asked this question a lot.

How do I make politics interesting in my Victoria 2 game?

1. Make sure you have the Secret Ballots reform, without it you will be stuck with a majority party. Your Upper House can either be Based by Population or Two Per State it dosen't matter. Proportional Representation is way better than FPTP because you can actually tell the results and swing it.
2. If you have a dominant party that wins all the time (four in a row is a max for me) use the _________ Party rocked by Scandal to end the wild ride.
3. (Optional) Go into the ideology files and have the liberals and socialists form coalitions under terms of high militancy.
4. If you are the Conservative Party act like it, lower taxes and social spending. Same for any party that gets elected. It doesn't matter if some of your policies cause you to gain militancy or lose a lot of money just do it. Some anons might make fun of me for role playing but if you are ""playing"" as a political party I expect you should act like it.
5. Only use the party loyalty NF for the opposition party. It's not fair to give one party an advantage (Reminder to use them in places with your dominate ideology)
6. Pass reforms as if congress presented you a bill. If you are the Socialist Party and the upper house proposes a health care reform you should do it. Act like you are the president and you can veto or ignore anything that is contrary to your parties belief
7. Make up characters! Use the name randomizer that Vic 2 uses to make generals to make party leaders for each party.

I got my independence thanks to England and Scotland, even though I had to ditch Scotland in the end.

i actually think there should be a cultural permeability mechanic - cultures from differing cultural zones should have low cultural permeqbility (i.e. less exchange of ideas) than cultures within the same cultural zone.

this would model the relatively easy exchange of ideas between european states during the period and the lack of exchange between europeans and muslims - to the detriment of the muslims.

pf course, if you want to make your society more receptive to the ideas of cultral aliens who are obviously inferior (since most cultures have this ingroup outgroup dynamic) you're going to have a pay a price in terms of stability and the potential for reactionary revolts.

why the fuck would an indian chief suddenly adopt european mores and cultural attitudes, like the rennaissance and colonialism? the way paradox have modelled tech spread is pretty racist and eurocentric. as if non european cultures don't have their own set of mores and incentives and just want to slavishly follow european fashion.

Here I am, I decided to re-unite Rome after leaving the game for 8 months. Forced to play on a filthy corruption-included patch because of the Mare Nostrum I started.

Thanks to taking 3 provinces in Southern Italy and a bit of Egypt I got Pope, Kebab, & gang after my ass.

When the war started both Austria, Hungary, and England refused my call to war, but I was still evenly matched because of Poland-Lith and Toulouse.

I quickly learned how fucking retarded my slav allies were when they split their 80k soldiers into stacks of 20k and attacked the Kebab mass army 1 by 1.

Meanwhile Kebab realizes how retarded Slavs are and sends most of it's army to Italy to fuck me in the ass while the slavs attack a 30k Ottofuck army with 20k each.

I am so fucking pissed right now, I just want a fucking achievement and Johan with his team of liberal autists is content to fuck me up the ass with constant artificial expansion deterrents.

You need to take into consideration causation and correlation. States in the middle east did not develop less then europeans due to culture and religion as such, but more the underlying factors such as development and geography in their country. A much better improvement would be to make institutions spread less across mountain terrain, and a linear correlation with development(kind of already implemented through the bonus to adoption by development in provinces). I have a dumb question about war and armies and stuff.
I picked a level 1 calvary with morale damage, and I don't know if I should pick an infantry that too causes morale damage (the underling thugs) or if I should pick the dogoo horde with the shock attack.

Which one is usually better, going all out on one thing or trying to be versatile?
