Discuss. Are there better ways to make farming fun? Should it even be fun?

Farming shouldn't be fun. Although I do think that daily one time bonus rewards hurt playability. At reset the game is brimming with worthwhile content but as I play it dwindles until I'm forcing myself to do Teq because the daily fractals are all terrible with PUGs. After that if I want to play more I can either make progress at a snails pace, grind tarir, or grind sw.

They really need to do something to make things rewarding more than once per day. I'd gladly take a nerf to daily one time bonus rewards if they buffed the regular rewards and got rid of diminishing rewards. They could also revive dead content by letting you convert currencies to other currencies in some way, maybe something like the ley-energy matter converter, or by bring newer items to older content as rewards.

I think Anet is on to something with the way the LWS3 maps work: give people content that can be grinded-out, but reward in currency that can be used to get ascended stuff. With the way the meta shifts occasionally and all the alts that the really bored people make, giving them a way to work towards gearing their characters while not undermining the economy might be a good compromise.

I don't know what would be the best way to implement this--maybe repeatable dailies (like in EB) that reward a currency that could be spent on ascended mats from a map vendor. Important thing is to give people something that they can do every day that makes them feel like they're progressing towards some clearly defined goal (ie. crafting an ascended set).

Or maybe it doesn't have to be ascended stuff, just T6 mats; just make sure it's something useful for endgame that can be gotten once per day, if the player puts in the time.

Honestly, I don't know at this point. Arenanet brought this by fucking up their game from all the beginning. Players should not be able to open the chests if they did not participate in the event (alts go the same way), and players should not be able to open the same chest in multiple instances of the same map on any map not only AB. Because it makes no fucking sense at all. But it's been like this since the release of this game, so it's purely retarded development fault here and not the playerbase.

And nerfing AB will resolve the main issue. People grind AB because legendary crafting is shit and ascended crafting is shit.

Btw, I'm surprised that reddit cucks are crying over AB, but it was totally fine for them to run in circles in labyrinth for 2 weeks straight for 5-6 hours a day on their guardians. Like grind in lab was good and high quality game design, but Tarir grind is meh - it's ruining economy and should be nerfed to the ground.

Its almost like they wanted to be a modern MMO but then tried to also adhere to design principals from gw1.

Fucking up both in the process. we do not get better gear after exotic. Ascended is nice, but its only 5%, no vertical progress, so we get skins. Skins are horizontal, cosmetic, meaningless but otherwise checkbox goals to do. Horizontal progression means everything is going to be a grind to ensure we keep playing.

Every map since living story 2 has been a reskin. Introduce new currency, add some difficult tasks to 100% the new content, ensure new content requires weeks of repeating the same behavior. Rinse, wash, repeat.

Without the increase in power, it makes it feel very unrewarding to the average player. Because once again, they get all the modern MMO signals, and then get told "lolno" at the "endgame".

Totally agree with this anon. There are a lot of reasons to do content--I'm currently crafting Bifrost, and I need the Gift of Zhaitan, but I hate doing the Lost City of Arah so I'm doing the WvW reward track instead. I prefer to do WvW in this case, because I find it more fun than grinding dungeons, even if the dungeon route would theoretically be faster; and I'm not about to do content I don't like just for the grind of it if a more preferable option exists.

It really depends on what you enjoy, anon. Warrior is a solid, easy-to-grasp class that has a lot to offer in group play. Whether or not it gets boring is a matter of debate, but I will say that depending on how much you want to play to the metagame, there are at least a couple of different styles of play with warrior--switching it up occasionally can be refreshing.

A class that I started with early and I found fun is Guardian: it has decent damage and good survivability. The thing I really enjoyed--and continue to enjoy--is the counterplay and support built into the class. With things like blocks, blinds, group condition cleanse, and reflects, it forces you to think tactically and to know the encounters to best deploy your defenses and support other players.

in just PVE content you can do mostly what you want. There is a learning curve to gw2, its shallow but can be punishing if you get complacent.

Warrior is easy to pick up and play, and has a high enough skill ceiling to be fun and challenging to master.

Viable in all modes and a staple in the current meta for fractals and raids.

The fun thing, see painful for solo, about the meta build is that it sacrifices personal dps to bolster everyone else around them. To absurd levels, so much so that the individual dps loss is microscopic vs the group dps gain by focusing on the phalanx strength builds.

tl;dr: its good, play what you like the look of in this game, nothing is too hard to master.

Thief is middle of the road.
It's currently some of the highest DPS in raids and fractals, but there are some tradeoffs.
In raids it IS the highest single target DPS on most fights, but it can't do anything aside from DPS. It also doesn't have much of an 'optimal' rotation, so it can be interrupted for mechanics and continue to do optimal damage straight away. And nothing else.
Same rules apply in fractals, but fractals often require more utility per member and that makes them less useful unless you trade some of their DPS away.

It has a relatively high skillcap to play to its full extent, but it's not exactly worth it when you think that other classes can be almost just as good without even trying (especially in PvP, it's really easy for a decent thief player to get facerolled by a necro or warrior that doesn't even know what they're doing).

Most of the casters stood upright, not just "one." This was in vanilla, even. Fire Callers, Fire Shamans, Mind Sparks, etc. And there were even MORE in EoTN, that white charr wasn't a single NPC he was an entire class (the Wardkeeper)

On top of that, there were even unique NPCs with unique models, like the Hierophant here.

Those ascended mats are ridiculously easy to get and there is no use for them besides ascended gear crafting. Keep in mind that you need like 2000 of each to craft one full ascended set of 6 gear pieces + 1 aquatic gear + desired weapons. Just refine enough ascended mats to have like 20+ of each refined mat in your bank, but don't make ascended crystals - those are trophies and cannot be put into reagent bank.

And whenever you need more of them just look under LFG squads for silverwastes chest farming - your number one source of quick ascended materials.
