If you want the former, I'd say Everlasting Summer (but use a guide after the first playthrough so you're not having to endlessly replay it to unlock the true endings).

When America occupied Japan, we tried our damn best to get them to adopt a romaji based system. The people would NOT have it. They liked kanji and how it was a part of their culture. Ever since then efforts have died a lot. Maybe on a scale of centuries, it's inevitable for Japanese and Chinese to be simplified, but over a couple decades? Your lifetime? Your youth and adulthood? Not likely.

Also as someone who knows Japanese, I can tell you, while YOU may be looking at Kanji and thinking "omfg what an impossible system Japan must hate it it's gotta go" but in reality, Japanese people don't mind kanji at all, once you know kanji they're really no problem at all, so from the perspective of the Japanese both politicians and people kanji really isn't a problem it's just their natural language. Something really big would need to happen to change that (like foreign occupation) and even then it'd be really hard for people to abandon their culture.

It's like everything, if you get a good education, you have time to cultivate yourself through reading and learning, then sure, it's not inconvenient because you can overcome it. What is actually complicated to Japanese people isn't the ideograms themselves, it's all the stuff that comes from the cultural background of the language. Shit like 曖昧, 本音と建前 and other stuff is what actually gets in the way of getting shit through correctly as Japanese people don't actually voice their opinion, but rather make suppositions and are always acting as psychologist when speaking to someone.

I think you're regarding your own language a bit too highly. Language have always been stuff you're learning on a daily basis throughout your life. The difference is how economical the sign systems are, i.e. how many signs you need to convey different meanings. Less economical sign systems (with many signs) are harder to learn, thus preventing widespread access to culture and education.In japanese, you need thousands of unique signs. Well now that statement just shows you don't know what you're talking about, yeah? Kanji and kana work together in Japanese, one doesn't supersede the other. The fact kana can work in place of kanji in more obscure words does not mean the writing system is a failure, it means it's working as intended. The fact words can be written in two ways is a feature of the language used for puns, literary techniques, and for ease of writing in general. It's a fundamental part of the language, not a blight that shows it's flawed.

I agree with the number of symbols but those symbols alone aren't anything more than a sound. Comparatively speaking, using a Western Latin character alone like "e" doesn't mean much. If I were to transmit the concept we know as "country", I need 7 characters that don't mean shit alone. In Japanese, I use 国 and you're done. It's even faster to write down and on an information level, I'd wager it takes way less space.
Of course not every is that way but even complicated kanji are composed of several simple kanji, just the same way complicated Western words are usually composed of several (usually 2 or more) Greek or Latin words that people don't even know usually.
